Movies that don't deserve their own thread

Apparently it's supposedly a rip-off of a movie made in India or something? But Jamie Foxx does a good job, and while I hate Joseph Gordon Levitt's guts, he does a good job too.
Why you hate him so much?
watched the master, this is what zero pussy does to a mf
Well shit.
-
Why you hate him so much?
Well shit.
For years, he just oozed an aura of smugness, like his shit didn't stink, and it could not be hidden in any of the things I saw him in. Tom Hardy struck me that way when I first took notice of him but he's at least chilled out since then. Venom helped a lot since he had to embarrass himself a lot in many scenes.

I would think his role in Star Trek Nemesis was the first considering he had to shave his head.

I didn't get through the entire TNG series so I never saw any of its movies, either. Literally the first thing I saw Hardy in that I knew who he was, was The Dark Knight Rises. Then I saw Inception and I was like, "Oh, I get it. This is where mediocre actors go to get swelled heads because they're in a Nolan flick."
-
Tom Hardy played Heathcliff in an adaptation of Wuthering Heights, though that was before DKR. He's been in a few TV series since then though, which isn't something I'd think a film actor with a big head would do. JGL never seemed that way to me either. He played in Don Jon though which doesn't seem like the kind of movie a person you think that way about would do but maybe it is. He's also played in a TV series recently, though just as a voice apparently.

watched Little Murders, god damn this was amazing. why don't more people talk about this? candidate for best comedy movie ever made.
-
Has anyone here seen the movie Cool World? I seen it twice and I really enjoyed it both times. I like the idea of real people being in a "toon world" and the whole final climax was really awesome in my opinion. It felt like an epic fight in a way. I'm also glad that the cop character got a happy ending. I know the movie got "bad reviews", but I honestly really liked it despite that xD
-
The art and animation in Cool World is amazing. Other than that, the story sucks. But if you like it, good for you.

I liked the opposite, where Who Framed Roger Rabbit put toons in the real world. Seems like that works better IMO.
-
The studio/producers of Cool World wanted to basically make another Who Framed Roger Rabbit and take advantage of its own popularity and success, and they failed spectacularly.

I like that movie too! I seen it many times as well! (Though I liked it better than Cool World.)

There's a story behind the movie about the artist and director Ralph Bakshi where he got screwed over by Paramount, so he never got to do what he really wanted for the film. Paramount had their own ideas and he had his own, ultimately it became what it was today. From what I read about him, he had way better films in the past, usually very dark and adult from what I gathered.
Honestly, I guess I'm one of the few that really enjoyed this movie! Though honestly I tend to like movies that are "bad films" for some reason.
Though if you compared Who Framed Roger Rabbit and Cool World, I liked Who Framed Roger Rabbit more. Honestly, when I was younger I thought there were actually Roger Rabbit cartoons, but he was an original for the movie
-
Who Framed Roger Rabbit had no business being as goddamn good as it was. I kinda want them to finally put out the prequel, Who Discovered Roger Rabbit.
-
Maybe not, but thank god it was, eh?

Oh, absolutely, one of my top five favorite films of all time.

I watched Tenet and it was easily one of Nolan's worst, if not the worst movie he ever made.
-
Can't be that bad…...or worse than Memento.

Where are you that they have open movie theaters?
-
Can't be that bad…...or worse than Memento.
Eh he was younger, rougher around the ages.
I was younger and maybe I need to rewatch it but I liked it.
I didn't really liked Tenet.
@BattleFranky69:Where are you that they have open movie theaters?
Singapore, International release.
Without the Nolan's brand, this would have gone to the gutter or maybe I dropped a few IQ points in recent years to fully grasp the movie.
Nah.
The sound direction was pretty bad too. Half the time I could barely get what is being said. -

Wow, really?
Worse than Dark Knight Rises?
Well, that's a bit concerning.
-
I like all of Christopher Nolan’s movies except for Interstellar, I hated that one
-
I loved Tenet, I would even want to see it in cinema again lol, but will probably wait for the 4k release instead.

I was trying to remember the name of that movie didn’t think to say that movie with McConaughey which I would’ve fucked up too since his name is hard to spell.

Out of curiousity what did you liked about the movie?
Off my head I could give it props for good CGI use but everything feels like a blur.! I thought I was able to saw most of the twists coming. I really didn't like the last part because it was extremely messy. I walked away with more questions than answers.

Well, that's a bit concerning.
Oh. I didn't really account for the Dark Knight trilogy.
Yeaaah Rises wasn't that good but I'm a bit biased because it's batman.
But cinematography wise and editing I think DKR did better for me.
Plot.. well you'll know when you know but they aren't really comparable but I'll give it to Tenet just for trying to do what it did. -

- excellent cast of actors and performances (only one scene that I thought was underwhelming) - fascinating action and scenography
- intriguing story and quite surprisingly the film has some lore too.
- the score was amazing, ludwig did a good job.
Yeah i dont really know what else to say, im still thinking about it today, trying to make place everything in the right time line
I saw it with subtitles so I didnt have any trouble understanding what was going on.
Its not Nolans best movie, but its not one of his worse either, it fits quite well in the middle among his work. I think I like it more than Interstellar, but less than Dunkirk, the dark knight and inception.

! Which scene was that? I thought the actors were great but Kenneth Branagh's character almost feel cartoonishly evil.
The story is intriguing but it leaves a few plotholes/questions for me.
For instance, the Grandfather Paradox was waved away yet it is essentially the whole problem with the villain's entire plan. Like the entire plan hinges on the paradox being untrue.
Which is funny because the entire film IS about closed loop which is the heart of the paradox.
It seems like it was going for a closed loop where time is linear but that opens up another problem that bugs me from the very start.
If the characters survive past the day of the yacht, this means the world has already been saved and it is destined to be a loop.
I have no issue with that but this movie played it very safe by not ever hinting or exploring what would happen if identical characters meet or if there were an action that were not supposed to happen, happened.
I've got no issues with that but I expected more from a Nolan's film outside of the reverse world theatrics that is more of a surface level thing.
! This is a straight forward self-fulfilling prophecy movie that really wasn't that brilliant for me because if you approach it that way, there's zero mystery left.
Neil(Patterson)'s character placement was confusing during the last scene. Did he re-invert himself to save John? Was there a portable rotatory machine I missed?
I really didn't enjoy the last scene, the enemies were barely there but the cgi was cool.
Was the reverse world explained, even in sci-fi terms besides 'try-not-to-interact'? because it is really broken and is pretty much magic. -

! hmm true never thought about that, I would need to see it again to form a opinion about it lol.
! Wasn't that the normal Neil and then he goes back to the base to invert himself and ends up in the cave and saving John?
I found the last battle scene confusing, since everyone wore helmet, i already forgot if either red or blue were the inverted ones lol since I was focusing on trying to see who is who while reading the subtitles, didn't help with lots of explosion and inverted explosions (implosions?) at the same time lmao -
Mulan was hot garbage. lol
-
Was that really so unexpected? It has a pretty low score on IMDB too so it's not just you.
-
And one of Justin Bieber's concert documentaries has an IMDB score of 1.6 – likely for no other reason that some folk disliked his hairstyle and projected that onto the score.
Have not seen Mulan. Doubt it deserves a 4.6.
-

It’s got a good score with critics on rotten Tomatoes
-
It's got 80% with critics on RT, but only 53% with fans. So this seems like a "love it or hate it" kinda movie.
-
It's probably a case of the critics thinking "Hey, yeah, this is a cool movie," and the fans thinking "THIS IS A TOTAL BETRAYAL OF THE ORIGINAL!"
But I haven't seen it, so I won't pass judgment on it (yet).
-
From everything I've seen, it seems like you really have to let go of the original to enjoy it.
That and Disney edged it more towards the Chinese to get, well, the Chinese to see it, so if you aren't Asian-descent you might not appreciate it as much.
-
RT hasn't been accurate for a while now.
The pandering has gotten worse over the years.
I'm Chinese and I think it's overrated and tried too hard. -
Saw it, meh. I do like the original (my little sis played it constantly back in the day, so lord knows I can quote it verbatium) and I was willing to give the LA remake a chance. But, yeah, even without the nostagla, it's nothing special. Some good fight and wirework but the characters were uninteresting and I seriously nearly nodded off a few times through it. I agree with most critisim too, the Mulan of the animated version was someone endering, worked to gain her skills and likewise could use her head. Here, might as well call her Saitama. becuase she's pretty much a a master fighter right from the off and so strong-willed and…blech. Just another notch in Disney's obesseion in trying to promote a "strong female character" without really putting in the work or charm. Man I miss when there was no agendas and the writers were free to make a character free of mandates.
Credit where it's due though at the least they did try to do a few things different to distance it from the original. I do feel they could've still used Mushu just, y'know, re-worked him a little, cut out the ancestor plot and just have him try to prove he can help her. They keep saying they were going for realisim but then you got this chi and another character who can use magic, so...yeah, odd. But otherwise, if you want something more charming, animated version. This remake is just okay but you won't lose sleep if you pass on it.
-
It just seems like an overall bad movie all together, no matter from chinese or western perspective.
Epic movies like red cliff, house of flying daggers, hero and crouching tiger hidden dragon (although this movie was a little bit controversial) were beloved from both sides so I dont buy it that the chinese would enjoy it more. -
I like the costumes.
Yeah that's about it.
-
if anyone wants a good live action mulan watch this

It's not just Disney. Western Media Producers/Writers/etc thing a strong female character is a female character with no flaws. It's the same shit they pulled on Daenerys erase or "justify" all her bad deeds, paint her as a messiah, and absolutely fail in do her descent into Mad Queen.
-
Ironically the original Mulan was a good example of a strong female character with human flaws.
Maybe that's why we all like anime/manga so much here. Many more characters (especially female) who are strong but flawed.

But sometimes too flawed to the point they're not likeable realistically.

Which one :ninja:?

Well yes, but not all anime are good.
-
@Johnny:
The Naruto girl.
I can think of far worse characters with far worse flaws than her.
Well yes, but not all anime are good.
Well for what’s it worth I never implied otherwise. Just disagreed with the idea that having strong characters with flaws can make a work more likable.
-
Took me five minutes to remember the term.
I think the term is a "Mary Sue" character, which can become a huge turn off.
Competent movies/series focuses on growth and characters get good introspection for their necessary development. You don't see that much nowadays.
We've gone full circle, storytelling eventually grew out of Mary Sue characters but recent trends seem to be going towards that direction to satisfy every group and whatever agendas. -
Say what you want about Joss Whedon, but the guy does know how to make a strong female character
That’s why I’m particularly excited for his series that comes out next year
