FFVII trailer was lit, fam
Should have just done what Nintendo does and do a Sony Direct.
Isn't that what they do on that PS Experience thing?
Sony conferences have been a little light ever since they started doing PS Experience. You get two hype-things, but neither is as good as one hype-thing.
Tsusishima looks like my jam, tho.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Sony announcing another game right now.
Isn't that what they do on that PS Experience thing?
They could just have dropped the entire bullshit conference and do what Nintendo does, and they'd be alright.
Man, this E3 has kinda blown chunks this year. Microsoft is probably gonna win because I don't count Nintendo.
Should have just done what Nintendo does and do a Sony Direct.
Aren't the Nintendo Directs occasionally sub-par?
Isn't kinda weird that they show clips of musical guests from Dreams and yet they don't show a trailer for Dreams at all…

They normally give a heads up, and they come often enough that if you have REASONABLE expectations, you walk away satisfied.
I mean this, the one time of year when all eyes are on the company and they do…that.
Microsoft must be doing a jig right about now.
odd to me that Sony didn't even do a quick indie highlight. That was one of their strengths for a long time.

I mean, maybe, but, well…
E3s really don't matter. Except the ones where they present new consoles and/or pricepoints and/or services. They don't really drive game sales or systems this late in the cycle.
Aight, i'm heading off, but so far
Microsoft: Overall Winners.
Ubisoft: Second place, with good games, if a bit samey.
EA: Pathetic.
Square Enix: Fuck off
We'll see what Nintendo will have tomorrow, but we know Smash is coming, so they pretty much jump to second place by default. I hope for Fire Emblem, I expect NOTHING.

Given what I occasionally see in the Nintendo thread here that doesn't seem to happen very much.

People need to learn to not do Hype. Hype is dangerous, hype leads to outrage and crushed dreams.
Temper Expectations are the way to go.
Now i'm out, see yall for Nindy tomorrow.
Unless Nintendo does something stupid beyond measure, they've already won with Smash alone
It will be revealed that FF7 remake trailer will be during nintendo's presentation

We're really not going to let this go are we? (not that we should).
Also, 80% of the stuff Microsoft showed isn't even exclusive for XBOX.
Jump Force, Vesperia, DmC5…Pretty much are coming to PS4 as well.
I thought Sony's showing was pretty good once it got past the slow beginning. Not getting the negativity.

Coupled with another KH3 trailer, this one revealing the new Halloween Town.

First, I heard they had 45 minutes, but now it seems it was a 30 minute conference.
If they ignore Fortnite and all those other ports, they should be fine.
Also, we finally get gameplay for Death Stranding, and I still have no idea what you do in Death Stranding.
if Death Stranding is just slowly walking through mysterious environments with good sound, I'll enjoy it more than any MGS

They're not going to ignore Fortnite. It's their "Rocket Leauge" of the year. If it's anything like last year they'll spend a minute or two on it.
Also, 80% of the stuff Microsoft showed isn't even exclusive for XBOX.
You pretty much just summed up Xbox's History since the original system.
Sony definitely got better after an awful start, but it was still kind of underwhelming overall. The gameplay they showed was all great, but there was no real "wow" moment, and it was more showing more of stuff we already knew was coming.

I'd say the Resident Evil 2 Remake was a pretty big "wow" moment. Nioh 2, while not as impressive, was still a great surprise.
Ah, yeah, I forgot about Resident Evil 2 remake, so I'll give you that.
That first half hour was legendarily bad.
Ghost of Tsushima looked amazing, though.
Hopefully at some point we see some actual gameplay from Death Stranding.
The free roaming gave me a very Japanese RDR vibe, but the combat looks much better and more original. Graphics kinda looked pretty generic at first, but once the colors started popping in and we get a facial model of the older lady, the artstyle comes off much more original and pretty. Would buy.
I can't grasp why Naughty Dog decided to focus on one of the weakest aspect of The Last Of Us instead of focusing on, you know, Joel the main star of the original game. The gameplay stuff looks cool especially how the combat has momentum on a min to min play. But yea, focusing on Ellie is just mind-baffling. She was already a lazy and boring character, and we're now gonna see her rage (i assume since Naughty Dog can't make anything without relying on lazy cliches) over her girlfriend. So fucking original. Oh and if you care about some lazy surface level progressive bullshit in your games, instead of topics being actually explored and have more than 2 seconds of thought behind it, then Neil Drakmenn got you covered; Ellie is gay. I guess no level amount of characterization is needed for Ellie after this since this alone with gathered the "most mind-blowing game of all time" title just based on that little tidbit.
At least Ghost of Tsushima and Death Stranding seems far more competently crafted with actual ambition.
Considering what Joel did at the end of the first game I'm perfectly okay with not playing as him or ever playing as him period.
Dawn of the final day I guess, at least here in Europe.
Never heard of Ghost of Tsushima before but it looks beautiful! Apart from that, Sony had nothing exciting for me.
I really hope Nintendo delivers … Maybe new Animal Crossing? Please?

She was already gay in the first game so I'm not sure what your issue is?
ANd Joel's story has been told already. What's left to do with him now? Murdering more hundreds of people and again dooming the human race for the sake of one girl that he's replacing his own dead daughter with? Again?
Ellie is the one the fate of the world hinges on. Ellie is the one that grew up in the first game and had her own combat segment near the end as a sign of her growth from helpless victim to potential lead character. Your first time through the original game there's a huge stretch where they make you think "Joel is dead. Now its about this character who is smaller and weaker and has to use different strategies than the big guy to survive." And that worked great.
She's the one that has to live with the choices Joel made for her and the world. Her relationship with Joel is important and will certainly be focused on, but it makes perfect sense to focus on her.
I think because Sony has the upper hand in terms of console sales, they don't particularly care all that much about going out and doing whatever deals people do to showcase third-party games at their conferences.
This was a conference for their first-party lineup. Spider-Man, Ghosts, Death Stranding, Last of Us … this is why I own a PS4.

Ellie being gay was already covered in Left Behind DLC.
I'm sure we'll get to play as Joel, also. Different fighting mechanisms. He's got more brute force.

She was already gay in the first game so I'm not sure what your issue is?
Which was already lazy as hell given the fact that it comes outta nowhere, and it literally changes NOTHING about Ellie. But it was in a dlc and since it was irrelevant, aside from Naughty Dog trying to be progressive without having the balls to actually tackle the topic in a meaningful way, I didn't have any problems with it.
But this time, it seems to be an important part in terms of what drives her character. And that's where the problem comes in; Naughty Dog could literally deliver a lazy cheap "emotional" experience without putting any real effort into the story, or characters and the game will be treated as some sort of groundbreaking masterpiece because Ellie is gay.
I don't expect ND to tackle some real character stuff, or even create complex characters that don't seemed to be ripped from whatever thing is trending, given their track record with cliches and lazy archetypes. That's why Ellie being gay, and the trailer putting emphasis on that without really saying anything worries me.
Maybe its just me, but I'm rather tired of hack western writers making characters gay without actually putting any real thought into it and the gullible audience praising that because characters being gay in of themselves is somehow good, instead of a character being well-written who is gay and explores that part of their identity, or issues, or whatever. This right here is just downright lazy pandering at its finest. And it will get awards and acclaimed because gay.
What's left to do with him now?
What's left to do with Ellie? The original game worked because it was a simple father-daughter story with zombies being used as a framework. Neither of them actually had much to expand upon simply because it was created as an stand-alone experience.
The Last Of Us part 2 is happening because part 1 was extremely successful and ND has to milk something else other than Uncharted series. So they are obviously creating new stuff for the characters and easily could've done something similar with Joel.
there's a huge stretch where they make you think "Joel is dead. Now its about this character who is smaller and weaker and has to use different strategies than the big guy to survive.
Maybe in part 1, but this trailer literally show you Ellie taking on those thugs in a very similar fashion to Joel, and the gameplay doesn't seem all that different even if you play from her pov.
You can replace her with Joel and the gameplay scenario would be pretty damn similar.
Everyone hopping on the feudal Japan train and I am so okay with it. Really looking forward to a From Software game with a jump button and Sucker Punch are in my eyes the most consistent Sony studio. I always just played through Souls games using the katana anyway so these are always right up my alley.
I'm also excited for Babylon's fall and am very glad Square and PlatinumGames are still working together after Nier:Automata.
Hoping for news about Monster Hunter World for the PC or what updates we can expect from the MHW x FFXIV crossover (same day leaks heavily suggests Behemoth and Cactuar incoming at a minimum).
Don't know if they'll go into any of that with Sony's conference gone by, but there is opportunity for something to happen during/after Capcom's doubles tournament.
Eager for news on the Metroid Prime 4 and anything Nintendo has to increase my excitement for when I finally buy my switch.
Somebody is really upset about a gay character right now, but I won’t say who.
It wouldn't hurt to maybe understand my point.
But yea, how dare i say anything, or question a studio's intention with an obvious in-your-face agenda…..
I think what HeartofDarkness is trying to say is he doesn't feel the sincerity from this writing decision where he sees the emphasis on it to be nothing more than a cheap political football score than an actual desire to explore their sexual feelings in a meaningful way. Similar to Dumbledore being gay or Korra being gay which had the media praise the creators for being bold and brave for making a writing decision that did not actually explore and did not affect the story in anyway but simply threw in there to appeal themselves to the LGBT community.
Me personally, I like Ellie and I'm confident that they'll write all aspects of her character in a complex, meaningful way but I really don't give two fucks about this sequel. Joel and Ellie's story was done and it ended in a really satisfying, ambiguous note of "was this all for nothing?" and making a sequel just ruins it. Just make an anthology series with a new cast and leave Joel and Ellie alone if you wanted to show how bold and brave you are.
Again.
She was already gay in the first game, (as were other characters) why is it an issue now?
And Ellie's story is that, she still has the cure for the zombie plague inside her, and she knows it. Joel sacrificed the literal world for her, and she knows it. That is super duper rich grounds for storytelling right there, and major arcs to explore.
And that story is vaaaaaastly more interesting and forward moving focusing on Ellie than Joel. (And we don't even know how big a role he's playing anyway.)

Which sounds good on paper, but ND has established themselves as the studio that is afraid to do anything that isn't familiar to most of the audience.
While this could be interesting, none of the interviews and the footage has hinted towards the studios going in that direction. Instead as it seems to be a revenge tale, and could play like a traditional one given ND's past track record and their lack of bold decisions.
Again.

TLC summed up my point much better so I'll just leave it at that.
Having been stuck in bed all day yesterday, I ended up watching the DMC5 and KH3 trailers a whole bunch of times, super happy.
Just ~5 hours to go for Ninty.

The entire point of revealing that information was that it didn't matter. That this beloved character also happened to be gay. It didn't make him less brave or wise or human, it wasn't something that was focused on as a big deal, because it wasn't.
You liked him and hey, it turns out you liked a gay character. It never came up in front of his students, because why would it? But it does inform his past with Grindelwald, and we're getting more of both in the prequel films so it may become more relevant there.
or Korra being gay which had the media praise the creators for being bold and brave for making a writing decision that did not actually explore and did not affect the story in anyway but simply threw in there to appeal themselves to the LGBT community.
I called Korra and Asami hooking up in season 3 because that was legit where the character chemistry was going, I just never made more than small jokes about it because it was Nick, that was obviously never going to be the direction of it so there was no point in having any serious discussion about it. Until it was. It was NOT something they just forced into the last 30 seconds randomly.
That it DID happen, on a kids show, again, with no big hooplah in-show over the fact that it was weird, is a big step forward. (That the community exploded afterward is o the community.) And they HAVE followed up on that in the artbooks and comics where they have leeway away from Nick.
These reveals, these character bits, don't happen in a void. They aren't just for shock value trying to score points with some nebulous rights groups. They just are. Part of the world. And its a GOOD thing no big deal needs to be made about it anymore. DUmbledore is now gay and always was. In thirty years when new kids are picking up HP for the first time, he'll still be gay as part of the background information and that's part of the fabric. Even just a few years ago they'd either not have any place to go that direction at all, or the character would have to be about nothing but being gay and being an over the top stereotype.
Still more annoyed at Druckman and Straley for just going "HEY GUYS CAN WE MAKE THINGS BLEAKER FOR A FULL TWENTY HOUR GAME" than anything having to do with Ellie. So tired of edgy. We got enough of it in TLoU1, I just don't see there being anything more to say in that world outside of violence porn.
I keep mixing up "Ellie" with "Ellen" (Page)
….wait, why did I think she voices the character???? Even before the character's outing.

Probably because of what her original design looked like in the first game before they changed it.
