Ohtaka's new series. Will it trend?

Orient

I have to admit that i stopped in the middle of the chapter, but it seemed super generic and boring to me.
Not gonna bother with it (and I had been a fan of early Magi, before it turned downhill) -
For a couple pages I thought it might be interesting, alas the tone is super naive so this latest brand of «humans fight for survival in a demon-ruled world» truly pales in comparison to, say, The Promised Neverland.
Also it doesn’t help that the protagonists look exactly like the Magi.
-
After the sad rushed endings of Magi and Adventures of Sinbad, i don't think I gonna put much faith in this one.
-
One chapter is never enough to properly judge a series but I wasn't swept off my feet either. Humans fighting demons by using special powers (or swordsmanship techniques in this case), being led by a charismatic and idealistic protagonist sounds somewhat familiar…
I'll give it one or two more chapters since I reeeally liked the initial (fake?) way the Oni were portrayed.

Ohtaka's new series. Will it trend?
https://jaiminisbox.com/reader/read/orient/en/0/1/page/1Definitely got a RWBY vibe to it. Or maybe all scythe things do now.
Like they said, I'm not swept away by it, but I am curious to get a little more backstory to this. So I'll give it a few more chapters.
I wonder if Ohtaka knows that "orient" is considered a racist term here. Unless you're talking about rugs.

How do people usually refer the eastern part of the world then? Just East?
-
Actually I could use some education here too. I was under the impression that orient/oriental was only offensive when used to refer to actual people, and that it’s proper usage was to the area and objects that originated there(like a rug)
Otherwise, this seemed super generic and didn’t do much to catch my attention. Might have benefitted from more buildup of the fake world as the humans saw it before throwing them right into the fray.
-
It's most racist when referring to a person as "oriental", but nobody calls us Orient-Americans. I know people who would blow their top (silently) if referred to as Orient-American.
I suppose you could get away with it if you were talking about Ye Olde Orient, before Europe and the rest started sticking their noses in. But as far as I've learned it's better to not risk insulting someone.

Just Asia. Or East Asia, if referring to everything east of Afghanistan.
-
I guess the plot, should the manga continue, will feature more than just Japan. The whole Asia, more or less. Otherwise the name makes no sense.
It was a fun read, not much more. I guess it has some potential. But I got a one shot feeling from it.
Those star mouths are creepy.
-
I liked the star mouth demon cats lol.
That motorcycle seems extremely random. Kinda made me think of that one series with the monk and some demons with a car. Can't think of the name…
-
Anyone else still reading the series? I always pick something new up during Golden Week and this has been pretty cool, though the pacing is slow and it hasn't picked up all that much. Anyways, I'm a sucker for Ohtaka's art.

Who's more appropiate to title a work Orient than an oriental?
I've read 10 chapters, it's crap. But for Ohtaka, i will go masochist.
