I believe it was an indication. Brimhats love banned magic, and immortality would certainly be included in that. But what's furious about it is that all medical magic is now banned because of a few assholes who were experimenting with immortality. So much for helping people . . .

The thing is that right now we don't know for sure who are the good guys and who are the bad ones… I mean, if the brim hats are the true heroes, having a sole witch doctor in the supposedly good guys town would make sense. So many possible developments...

I don't think we can call the Brim Hats TRUE heroes when they do stuff like curse poor little boys. But there may be more virtuous incentive among them, if not forgotten.

I had mixed feelings about it. Naturally I dislike characters who curse little childs. But there are things that doesn't smell good in a world where a cute little kid is forbiden to do magic because she didn't born a witch and in which she lost her mom for following her natural curiosity and wish. Something is wrong with the state of things here.
In many stories the bad guy turns good and also the good guy happens to be a bad one. That kind of plot can be nice, but I agree with you that if it's not done properly it can effect a naturalization of horrible behaviour which is not nice.
That said, in this case what grabs my attention here is the prometheus archetype: the guy who stole the divine secrets and is cursed by the god/good guys/society for that; but in the end his robbery pulls humanity to the next level (and the good guys happen to be conservative/retrograde/in the end evil). Will the secret behind Coco's mom curse be the key to a new and better world for everyone, even if it's against the current good guys rules? I wonder…

I hate when translators keep japanese exclusive speech patterns and expressions (like this "ara ara ara" or Riché talking on the third person - in japanese it makes her sound really childish, in any other language she sounds like… impaired), but damn the chapter itself was everything I love about this manga. The bit about medicine x witchcraft is exactly the sort of interactions I look forwards when stories introduce a fictional element on society - and is also a very bold move by the mangaka, as she basically just cut herself from the easy way out of every dangerous situation when every witch would just magically heal any damage.

They could have easily replaced "ara ara ara" with something like "Oh my my my" and gotten the meaning across.

I like the sage guy. He also seems to have some relation to Qifrey, either being a relative or perhaps Qifrey's teacher. The new test sounds pretty interesting too and will be a good way to just have a bunch of interesting magic done since they're trying to impress him/catch him off guard.

I hate that the scanlators took so long for this and it's only 16 pages. Beldarut's cool though. I maintain that he reminds me a lot of Tetia. And he also seems to know that Qifrey has some of his own motives.

As for the chapter itself, the content was really good, but I am finding hard to get emotionally invested with how long it takes between chapters. Made me check, but I did read this chapter already. Weren't there some kind of monsters in the water surrounding the library? There is a bridge to it so I'm not sure if the monsters serve much purpose. Or if they do that would be annoying to go to the library if you had to go through them every time. Thinking about a library that contains every book every written reminds me of that one universe in Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle.

She's obviously going to go to the library. But I like that she brought up that the more she learns about magic the more limitations she runs into. And the brimhats are all about freely using magic. The whole thing earlier about drawing the magic circle inversely to reverse the magic makes me think it'll come down to needing to do that to save Coco's mom, but it wouldn't be allowed because it's forbidden magic I'm pretty sure.

The scan group is picking up the pace a bit it seems thankfully.! And I was wrong about her going to the library. Interesting that Riche's brother is actually in the story. Also I forget what Qifrey and Orugio were talking about. Was it way back before even the whole river event when Orugio was confronting Qifrey about taking Coco in?

I'm fine with these little side chapters but it's a little annoying when the scanlations are so irregular and slow. Though judging by this chapter Orugio may get an apprentice at some point. You have to pass a specific test to be able to do that though and I'm not sure Orugio took it since the only thing it's good for is taking on apprentices and he didn't want any originally.

That was quick.
! I thought Qifrey was going to kill him or something but I'm sure that the glyph on the hat was the same as the ones that magic police people were going to use on Coco, to erase memories. Qifrey already erased that old guy's memory though, so we already know he's willing to do this kind of thing. I'm betting something is going to happen at this festival that's coming up.

Well healing Coustas seems as good a reason as any to want to dip into forbidden magic. And based on the little text at the end there's going to be something like that happening. Not that I think either Coco or Tartar know any forbidden spells but they might start researching it and get caught by Qifrey or Orugio.

The magic that would turn the ground underneath the chair to sand was already pretty dangerous. And this new magic will apparently "change the world" or something so I hope it's not something shortsighted. I'm interested in Dropout's teasing of the next chapter so I hope it doesn't take too long for it. And I keep forgetting that Coustas isn't a witch and so doesn't know the "no directly affecting human bodies" thing and Tartar has to just tell him that magic is incapable of healing. I still think they're going to end up trying to heal Coustas at some point. Agathe talking about how simple the magic they made is is interesting too. I was going to say that maybe the magic they came up with would affect Coustas' body without them realizing it but Agathe's reaction shows that that's not the case.

! But the brimhats have started showing normal people what kinds of magic you can do without the limits put on it by the normal witches.

Wasn't really a fan of most of the stuff to do with the see through clothes goggles. Other than that this is kind of interesting. I'm not that sure about Coustas' legs though. I guess they're healed but they also have those weird branch things attached to them. And there's even more stuff that should lure Coco over to the brimhats but at the same time she also sees how twisted a lot of them are. The part where the little girl asks Coco if she could become a witch was probably my favorite part of these chapters. Tetia being the one who first meets the prince makes me wonder if we're going to finally get some info on her since like I said a while ago she's the only one we don't have any even small amount of backstory on.
