One Piece "Episode of Skypiea", new TV Special (25th August 2018)

The East Blue one was a blessing in disguise because it allowed Chile to skip East Blue and go straight for Loguetown and Alabasta when they aired the series subbed. This? This will only eat up the few good animators the series has!
-
Will this affect the quality of the tv series?
-
Anyone from the series that will likely be on the special is already on it, i.e. Isouchi, possibly Matsuda. People like Ishizuka and Tomita and the like will stay on the TV series as they would have already been gone from it if they were on the special. There is potential for people who aren't on any series right now to be on it, like any Tiger Mask W or Super staff that's left over
-
Glad to hear that, and cant wait to see the special i hope they will do the same for second half of dressrosa in the future.

The special has been in the works for a while now. Any animators they'd have from the anime are already there.
-
They messed up there opportunity to turn arcs into movies, which would have been a good way for people new to the series to join in Like episode of merry being a shredded mess or the drum island arc having robin and franky in it
-
God Eneru has answered my prayers!! I've been waiting for this "Episode of" movie for a long time, can't wait to see Skypiea in HD finally. Hopefully they do a good job and it doesn't hurt the anime production too much
-
Im glad they did this since it could fit perfectly into a 90 minute movie and pretty well into a 65 minute one
-
I'm always surprised when Uda returns to the series since he left it for so long. I wonder who his animation supervisor is since Koizumi seems busy over on Gegege no Kitarou.
-
I guess it's fitting since he was the series director during the time Skypiea aired. I'm guessing GUTS will be handling a part of the special just like in EoEB (Where they handled Uda's section)
-
I can't wait for this! Skypeia was underrated. Anyone think they will animate something new that was revealed lately in the anime? The only thing that comes to mind is the Bellamy thing, but that was mentioned in the anime quite some time ago…. really hope the special starts at Mock Town.
-
This will be a nice borthday thing for me. sweet.
-
-
I know that's just a poster but robin's hips and nami being 8 inches taller than luffy is really getting on my nerve.
Did an intern copy and paste them and that's why the perspective is terrible? It'll probably be better in the actual show but that just stuck out like a sore thumb to me
-
Those images were all compiled from the individual reference sheets so no, they're not meant to be laid out next to each other like that.
-
Looks like Isochi designs, I'm not sure though because Luffy and Usopp look super Sato-esque (Very round features and a very small Luffy like in EoEB)
-

Chief Director: Kounosuke Uda
Script: Tomohiro NakayamaThe Director, Character Design and Chief Animation Director positions are still to be announced.
In addition this special will have origional scenes in it.
-
East blue one wasn't very good so I don't have high hopes.
Still, will be nice to see Enel again. They should do his moon adventures at the end as a bonus, that's the cover story I always really wanted to see animated.
-
East Blue wasnt very good? You mean too fast pace or what? For me East Blue was very good, pace was okay for me,animation very nice, 0 cesorship besides zeff eating own leg but they will never show this.
-
Yes. They skipped out way too much. The Nami stuff especially was too short to tell the story well (though finally having the Bellmere death scene done right was nice), and it didn't even have the walk to Arlong Park.
Weird to retell that story again after Episode of Nami anyway.
-
It'll be nice to see the reanimated stuff, since Skypiea has barely gotten any reanimated flashbacks. But just like all of the other recap specials, this one will probably be a mess pacing wise.
Skypiea itself has 66 chapters, and then there's 20 more if Jaya is included at all (and with the Noland stuff, I bet some of it will be.) Based on the Nami special, I'm guessing the Noland flashback will remain mostly faithful, and Luffy vs. Enel will probably get a good chunk. The rest will more than likely be a mess of cut scenes, though.
-
Yeah, I can't imagine it without Jaya. From Luffy meeting Conis through to the Trials will be where everything is barebones.
No Usopp impression of Sanji I bet. :/
-
Episode of East Blue was trying stay true to manga so that's why there was no walk to arlong park because this is anime filler.
-
Was it? Haven't watched it since it aired, but I was pretty sure there was plenty of manga stuff that was skipped, like the adoption flashback.
-
Ofc there was so much skipped stuff because there is no way you can do 40 ep in 2 h, the only thing i want from this special is that they will do few scenes from jaya at the start, like luffy 1 shot bellamy, scene in the bar + bb speech.
-
So if you're making something that intrinsically is going to be missing a lot of stuff anyway you should worry more about how coherent it is and less about what is anime-only and what is not.
-
Cramming eighty-six chapters into a 105 minute special isn't going to work, so expect the special to feel like a recap episode with really disjointed scene transitions unless it's framed like a discussion between two characters ala Sword Art Online: Extra Edition.

I don't see how this special is bad.
As an overview for casual anime fans it's perfect, newer fans probably haven't watched all the previous episodes, a throwback for old anime fans too with updated animation and bonus content. It's not like everything in the arc was memorable or vital so they might pull it off. Skypeia is nothing like the cramming with Episode of Merry.
-
I'm think those are Isoichi designs.

They barely were able to pull it off with the 27 chapter Arlong Arc, though.

Now you're just over-exaggerating, Episode of Nami was perfect.
-
Oh man I really hope we get a remix of Hikari E as the opening, that would be the icing on the cake!
-

That's why I said "barely".
Episode of Nami was pretty good, but was rushed in quite a few spots. And now they're going to be handling another arc that's 3x the length. I really don't think these are suitable replacements for new fans at all.

Fair enough, well hopefully this one is good! Can look forward to new animation, maybe some bgm.

As long as Enel's lightning is yellow (along with his entire colour scheme, jesus, anime team, get a clue) and the following scenes are in this, I'll be satisfied:
- Luffy's impression of Zoro and Sanji;
- Luffy and Chopper pick up sticks and promptly get lost (as well as Zoro, of course);
- Luffy, Usopp and Sanji fall from a waterfall and are scared to death;
- Everyone is mourning Pagaya, including Pagaya;
-
https://one-piece.com/news/detail/20180519_7229 Official Key Visual from the website is now out.
Preview will be released after the upcoming screening of Film Gold (Which is tomorrow!)
3 months before airtime… good schedule.Hoping someone can translate the rest of the info, I'm not sure I want to rely on google translate for this.
-
It's easy to have a few priority cuts finished before the special is finished in full.

We can see blue-white lightning on the poster (I'm #TeamBlue anyway so no skin off my nose).

Scotch said on twitter that this special will have Jaya so i'm very happy ^^
-
Can't wait to see Bellamy get his face caved in in high quality.
-
Am I right saying the special is called Episode of Sky Island, not Skypiea?
-
According to Toei anime producer Sakurada, there will be a must-see scene about "that popular character" who didn't appear in Skypiea arc in manga. I wonder who?
-
Hmm, if I'm not mistaken, you can already see a little cut corner there in that preview. Gan Fall seems to be introduced on Angel Island with Conis, so will they skip the first Wiper confrontation?
Nice to have confirmation of Jaya though.
-
Gan Fall will have different va because current va have cancer :(

Where was it confirmed that Yanami Jouji had cancer?
-
Look on Scotch twitter, https://twitter.com/ScotchInformer scroll a little down and you will see but you need to use translator or you know arabic.

Yep, almost every Japanese source refers to the saga collectively as "Sky Island" instead of "Skypiea".

Prolly Urouge meme-ing his way in there.
