This would have honestly made for a much better plot twist/reveal than what we actually got. But Oda doesn't have the balls.

For starters I'm going to say that I was quite surprised that there was less censoring of the eyeball gouging scene than I had expected; ie there was none.
One of these days I'm going to have to go back and rewatch some of Koizumi's old episodes because while I certainly recognized his angular style and designs from the mid-pre-timeskip era, I don't remember the scratchiness or the detailed closeups. I wonder if it's something he developed since stepping away from the show or if it was there all along and I just never picked up on it/forgot. It has been about a decade now since I last watched those episodes after all.
The highlight fight wasn't too extravagant as far as animated fighting scenes go but it was very kinetic with Koizumi's scratchiness gave it a gritty feeling to it despite there being barely a single drop of blood shed. My favorite cut was that slo-mo sliding dodge, which I imagine would be a bit tricky to animate from that angle but they pulled it off. Also shout out to the random egg yoke that went flying to punctuate Pedro's determined speech. Very One Piece.
Wow lots of creative camera angles used in this weeks episode, cool angles, great sketch effect from nobru, I don't remember Pedro use his tail like tanuki Mario from Mario bros 3, the kick dodge Scene was hell cool, even brook mama incounter, fav part of the episode was the flash back to Pedro vs tamago first fight in the past which I don't remember being shown in the manga.
Episode shitted on the already great manga chapter from a great height.
Down side music volume could be a little higher that's pretty much it.

I never realized how much Zepo looks like Law. Maybe the real reason Bepo decided to follow him.
Koizumi's gritty and loose animation and art is soooo good, reminds me a lot of Ishizuka. We'll definitely be seeing him again and I wonder if the next rotation will have Inoue on his own or with Kimitaka Ito like recently
Amazing episode. Absolutely gorgeous and nostalgic animation, great music choice (Was it just me or was the music really quiet this episode?) and some lovely little filler scenes. Koizumi's style is so rough and kinetic, it's amazing to witness. His style has definitely evolved since the early-mid pre timeskip days, but there are so many hints of classic One Piece in there.
I definitely did not expect Hosoda to put anything interesting on the table, but I was pleasantly surprised.
Next episode is by Midori Matsuda and directed by Kimitoshi Chioka, whom was the first series director for Dragon Ball Super, so it should be something to look forward to!

I LOVED this episode! Koizumi did knocked it out of the park.
It's so satisfying to see how great directing, storyboarding, and action can create one of the most memorable fights in the anime adaptation of WCI.
Please let Koizumi be a mainstay for a while longer.

! Uhm…without Pudding being evil, Big Moms assassination plan would not have worked and Sanji wouldn't have felt so betrayed that he finally decided to return to Luffy? So basically, it completely changed the direction of the arc and lead to everything that has happened since then.

Eavesdropping Pudding talking to his sister was a major factor in Sanji running away, breaking his resolve to "sacrifice himself" and getting back to the Strawhats. And we still have no idea if and how much Pudding messed up Big Mom's memories.
