Is it just me or does the Dutch king look a bit like a nicer Donald Trump?
[Hide][/hide]

Don't compare them, it's not nice to the king.
That is both impressive and disturbing. With a lean toward disturbing, since i can't quite manage to make any positive associations with keeping the bloodline pure
Like I said, it all goes back to the "descendents of Amaterasu" thing.

I think it might be Monaco, around 1300 when the House of Grimaldi took ownership of the Principality.

Early prognosis of Dutch elections shows Liberal Democrats (19 > 27 seats) and neo-nazis (2 > 8 seats) as biggest winners. Conservatives (33 > 36 seats) stay biggest party. Left-wing parties decimated, despite years of disastrous government policy including a messy covid response, completely botched vaccination schedule and one of the biggest post-WW2 scandals that resulted in the governing coalition resigning (the governing coalition has a net gain of 4 seats since the last election).

Nobody cared because this country has been poisoned by the toxic belief that you need to break a few eggs to get to real frauds.

Sadly, it seems we just live don't live in a left wing country. Socially fairly progressive, but economically very liberal. This is a trade nation that invented capitalism after all. I voted for GroenLinks (green left) so I'm not happy with this result. Silver lining is at least socially progressive pro-student D66 did amazingly and knocked Wilder's racist party off it's second place. For me personally it's an okay result, as I'm a student with a little bit of savings who owns some stocks. The poor will suffer though which pains me. What about the housing shortage and cost problem? What about the bloated bio industry? Nobody cares it seems. The entirety of the left is now as big as the far-right, utterly crazy. Nazi FvD got outed as nazis and still gained seats due to them being the only ones who campaigned for opening up the country again. At least they + their splinters didn't get the 20 seats that they polled at before their outing fiasco.
A few seats from left went over to Volt which is liberal pro-europe but it seems most of them went for D66 because it ran on climate as well and has a competent female frontrunner. They have a tendency to not keep their promises though so we'll see. The left parties really need to get their acts together. Their campaigns were very uninspiring. Why didn't they campaign on sticking up for the little guy?? We're in a pandemic, this is the perfect opportunity to campaign on healthcare and the social safety net. Instead GroenLinks campaigned on "more future"? The left's frontrunners need to go (GL's jesse klaver already said he won't) in favor of inspiring candidates who will actually campaign on fighting for the little guy. GL and party for animals are so simmilar, I have no idea why they just won't fuse. Labor should also fuse with GL. The left needs to be a united front, though without the socialists. -
Wait so did the guy who resigned over all those scandals just get voted right back in? If so thats a damn quick turn around. The Dutch must think he shits gold or something
-
The whole cabinet resigned. "resigned" in heavy quotation marks as they kept governing and many ran again. People just don't seem to care all that much about a few thousand poor people getting financially ruined. People do seem to think PM Rutte shits gold apparently. He has a massive massive incumbency advantage, is well spoken and seems very proper, likeable and down to earth. Low-information undecided voters naturally float to him, never mind all the swathes of well-off or self-employed people. It's a wealthy country that's doing very well economically compared to the rest of the world, so its not a surprise the liberals are huge.
-
I as a Swede find that fascinating. Back home the party it self would probably bounce back just fine, but a PM facing charges would never be allowed to head an upcoming election out of fear that his actions could taint the party image. But like you said perhaps this does not read as a big issue for the voters
-
I think it would be a different story if he were a first-time PM. Right now with his massive incumbency he's just seen as the leader, the standard choice. Plus average people keep saying he "handled corona well", but if you ever ask them what specifically he did so well, they can't give an answer. A first-time Rutte would definitely be removed from the head of the party. However, the party knows Rutte is their golden ticket. Literally what they ran on is Mark Rutte. They didn't even run on any policy, just "vote for Mark Rutte". I hazard a guess it could've cost them somewhere about 10 seats if they had another frontman. Makes you wonder what will happen to the party when he leaves politics. Side note, I also wonder what happens to nazi party after corona blows over, because opening up the country was their only crutch to getting this many seats.

You know just how fucked up Russia is when Putin can be voted "Hottest Man in Russia":

Sats, with the border conflict escalating and apparently Lukashenko joining the fry you came to post how stupid hot the former KGB is? I mean look at him his 68, billionaire, owns an oligarch nation sitting on top of the world largest nuke pile, has an isekai version, that's just peak performance.
On a more serious note, apparently French is trying to perma ban Hijabs. What's the deal with french and forced cultural assimilation geez.
-
Yeah geez. What's wrong with the French ?? The hijab isn't even patriarchal…
On a more ironic note, I'm curious to see where it's gonna lead. If they ban this for minors (or whatever they're planning to do), they should also ban the catholic thing for nuns (which they won't). So, it's only gonna be a thing for minors.
Anyway, this is too fresh for me to properly have a reaction. It's been out for 3 days or what -
I thought they already banned it years ago?
-

They banned the burqah, like many country did, because it hides the face. The hijab only hides the hair. It's way more complicated to ban it for many reasons, such as "religious liberty".
-
Oh the snark, yes the hijab comes from a patriarchal background but is not the role of the state to issue how one most observe it's own faith. If they ban hijabs from public places, they should also ban any other religious symbol or religious imagery form being worn. Bye bye cross and david' star necklaces. Shave your beards Sikhs and Orthodox Jews, etc.

Something interesting happened here like a dozen of days ago. Some retired generals (and hundreds of other soldiers) wrote in ValeurActuelles (far-right wing newspaper) that if this sItuAtIoN doesn't stop they'll basically make a coup. Marine LePen "understood" their preoccupations and basically endorsed them. And, and, brace yourselves, so did 58% of the population (based on a poll) hahahaha. This is a fuckup
https://unherd.com/thepost/frances-generals-have-disgraced-themselves/Macron is still leading in the most recent polls (which are honestly, a bit outdated) for the next elections. Anyway, if it is not 2022 (MarineLePen), 2027 (MarionLePen) will be the beginning of the end… MarionLePen (or Marion Maréchal) is more photogenic and young, she will have more votes than her aunty.
-
So is that in any way related with the jersey fish fight?
A bunch of French generals going all -fight fight fight lol

Welcome to the age of retired generals jerking off to the time they could go to world to not lose colonies and kill minorities siding with he far-right to "mAkE tHiS cOuNtRy GrEaT aGaIn".

Where's Napoleon when you need him?

Where's Napoleon when you need him?
Well, about this. A whole lot of European intellectuals (Geographers, historians, economists and all) have been writing in their books in the last decade, stuff like, "if a charismatic leader doesn't emerge in France even though it is very unlikely, then the FrontNational (now Rassemblement National) will pass" and basically Europe will burn. And some thought that Macron could be this person, but he's nothing compared to a Napoleon or DeGaulle. We need someone that could put down all the far-right in Europe. Wether it's peacefully or brutally, at a certain point it will not matter
-
If you get pushed to a point where you have no choice but to repress a push toward a regime change with force then you have probably already lost your grip on the country.

Yes, that's the point

I think they mean by charisma and leadership, not really by force, doubt "intellectuals" would call for a autocracy.
Anyway, Macron is basically the typical, right-wing, neo-liberal guy we see pretty often in Western countries, at least from my impression, who has to compensate for the rise of parties even further right than him by matching their extremism in certain aspects, so instead of battling populism, he is trying to match it and gain back the votes he might have lost. -
Regional elections in France.
The RN's votes (dipshit party) is shrinking everywhere. Can't be sure but the last few elections we've had seemed to be showing that Lepen's party is in decline. As for the presidential polls she's still up there along Macron.

#CHATCONTROL: EU PARLIAMENT APPROVES MASS SURVEILLANCE OF PRIVATE COMMUNICATIONS:
https://european-pirateparty.eu/parliament-approves-chatcontrol/This is very very very bad. A friend of mine from Germany send me this and I'm shocked. I thought Europe was better than this, people's privacy should be respected.
-
What's that from the pirate party ? It seems it didn't even make it to the news here or elsewhere… Anyway, we already have that kind of regulation here. It's something that was being done even before the legislation was passed, so... yeah as we were thinking back in 2015 : it's cool until the far-right passes. But everything is cool until they get elected.
-
Eric Zemmour is on a tie with Marine LePen on a poll for the next presidential elections. It's a fuck up!
Well, it's time to take a look at the immigration rules in the UK and/or Canada.
-
If you can drive a truck they'll come across the channel to pick you up
-
Don't come here. We're not any better.
-
Personally i probably wouldn't want to emigrate to a nation that has voted to fuck with immigrants no matter the cost to themselves.
-
Well, you're Swedish so we'd probably accept you a little better than all the brown people are.
I mean, you gave us IKEA.

All the candidates for the 2022 French presidential elections are now known. Very quick presentation of some of them from center to far-right:
-Macron, current president, despite the Gilet-Jaunes protests he can still do the splits –-- he's still favorite.
-Valérie Pécresse, LesRépublicains (LR), wants to get the centrists back on her party.
-LePen's daughter, everyone knows her...
-Eric Zemmour, alias the Z (another Far-Right-winger), is the phenomenon of this campaign. He thinks Pétain wasn't that bad and all kinds of crap. He could very-well pass to the second round of the elections. You'll notice that I'm not even bothering presenting the left, aaaand that's because they don't stand a chance getting elected (for now).
You can check out the latest polls on the wiki here.

So during last lockdown the Torries made a law about NO PARTIES, then held a Christmas party, and then had a recorded press training about denying said party. Congrats, BoJo is reaching Bozo levels of scumbagery.
Sadly, like all the other sleazy things BoJo and the Tories have been up to, it will soon be forgotten.
Even more sadly, the only real problem on their horizon is the possibility of Nigel Farage whipping up Xenophobia 2: Electric Boogaloo, because it turns out Brexit wasn't enough for some people.

From what I hear the far right can basically never win a french election at the moment. Not without majority support. The way french elections are structured, they will probably do well in round 1, but after that everyone who hates the far right will vote for the other guy (macron). They hate Macron, as french people always hate their president, but they hate the far right more. Most french still hate the far right and the structure of french elections favors centrists.

Yes the French elections have two rounds. But it's not 2002 anymore (second round won by Chirac with 82%), the far-right has been getting closer and closer to sit their ass at the government in the past years. Just have a look at the last elections in 2017, and compare the numbers with the current campaign's polls.
Lepen went up with 10% more votes since 2017 for the second round.Anyway, the very last polls are favoring Pécresse over Lepen for the second round. Which may imply some stuff that I won't judge on this quickly.

Certainly going to be a very interesting week for conservatives and Boris next week with the scrutiny on parties over the holidays last year as yet even more allegations of parties are coming out of the woodwork over the last day or two and it certainyl feels its going to be less of a case of 'did they' and more a case 'of how many' and 'who'
Going to sit back and wait for further proof before jumping to conclusions but should it be proven that a party did happen (I do believe it did happen) then backbench conservatives should rebel and form a vote of no confidence with the opposition to remove Boris. Sadly I can not see this happening due to the sheer numbers of Conservatives needed to rebel

Congratulations at having the situation read completely ass backwards.
For an encore do another round of throwing "warhawks" at the side that isn't the one literally massing an army around the borders and maritime waters of another country.

Wait till someone tells this guy that Russia has had military assets literally in Ukrainian borders since 2014 lol.
