How To Use IRC (v2)

Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this, but I'm not even sure if this qualifys a new topic in the help forum. ^^ This is a problem I'm having.

I recently began using mIRC, but I got a problem. Everything seems fine at first…but when I connect to a bot to download, one of two things will happen. This is in my first and only 3 times using it so far.

1. While downloading a file, when it was msotly done, my computer resetted itself. I started up IRC again (second time using it) the file finishes after resuming, and not long after it crashes and resets itself again.

2. Now this time, I tried downloading a different file from the same bot. Only this time, my whole computer completely locked up on me.

Could anyone help me with my problem? D= My computer isn't low preformance by anymeans.

So "a certain" temp irc client doesn't work.

Wait, so I can't use the client provided in this topic? Is that what that means? I don't know much about IRC, so can anyone explain why exactly they would do that?

Whenever I try to download from a bot (on any rizon sever it seems), I get this message: "Directory Error; will you chose another directory?" which leads me to a save box where I can save a certain file as "all files" but the download then cancels due to the error.

Any ideas on why this happens and how I can remedy it?

what the hell? Im using this for my first time and some random person i dont know chatted to me and knew where i lived! Any way i can hide my identity?

Yes, once you register your nickname, you can get a custom virtual hostmask (vhost).
I know that might not make sense yet, but…
type /ns register password email (you type your own password and a real e-mail where they will send a confirmation link). Now your nick is registered.

Then, type /hs request vhost.here. Your hostmask can be set of words, separated by ".". For example "i.like.one.piece". Now you have a vhost associated with your name that will be automatically activated every time you identify.

Lastly, press Alt+O and under Connect->Options, press the Perform button. In the Perform commands box, enter ns identify password. Now you will automatically identify to your nickname every time you connect to IRC.

Nah KF und VP are the only active channels. I've joined Ap a few times (for hours) but I never saw a word written there…

It's pretty dead because a lot of people won't follow directions for one reason or another.

That said, I request another mirror for the k-f_sysreset.zip.

A little updated guide on how to connect ir arlong park irc with screenshots

First download and install mirc from here
eidt: though its a trail. but it never expires.

Step 1 :open options and choose your nick

Step 2: go to servers menu and choose rizon
click select and from first menu (one in screenshot above) connect

if your firewall blocks it then allow it.
step 3: on connecting it will ask which channel to join. there give #arlong-park

Basically yes, but IRC is meant for that kind of use, so nobody should feel bad about just randomly chatting there.

I don't know about the others, but every now and then I did. Every time the thread jumped thirty pages in a day, I felt that it didn't respect its original purpose and the ideas of its makers (well mainly KI, but..).

Even though it was meant to be a thread for random chitchat, the discussions at the beginning of the thread were mostly admirable and of good quality. All the one liner posting felt a tad out of place after reading pages of constructive talking. IRC doesn't have that problem, as it's meant for chatting in real time.

LOL yeah, the chat is not really for me (I feel like such an old fogey, but I prefer my casual chatting to mostly be face to face over a good glass of merlot, lol), but the folks who go seem to be having a lot of fun, and the one lienrs and wittisims are probably a large part of that.
