The L and R thing doesn't disturb me that much. I actually liked hearing arucard being called Alucard. I wouldn't have minded Len if they didn't call him Lenny. Is it true that Ace's dubbed name is Puma D. Ace

Heres some examples Arabasta to Alabasta and Zoro to Zolo.
Like Cosmic said, Zoro was always spelled out as Zoro till America got it because of some stupid "copyright" reasons involving a certain masked Spainard.
However, I think "Arabasra" is actually suppose to be "Alabasta". Everytime I hear it, I think "Alabaster", which is kinda sand-colored, I suppose, so it makes sense (to me, anyway).

Nope, you can't copyright names. It has nothing to do with Zorro. It has everything to do with 4Kids deciding that Zoro would be too confusing for little kids and then Shueisha trademarking Roronoa Zolo for merchandising purposes.

I think the reason they kept Hiruluk's suicide is because I think 4Kids assigned a different manager to the One Piece dub for the new season. Notice as soon as the new season started the merging ceased.
I think 4Kids could have done a decent dub and still managed their precious Y7 rating. That may sound ridiculous, but it would be possible. If the only changes they made was edit out the blood, tone down the swearing, and if necessary recolor the odd gun, then it would have been a decent dub and they could keep their precious timeslot. They could have even edited the Arlong arc competently and still have kept it a Y7. You're allowed to have death in a Y7 show, obviously, since Hiruluk died. They could have just edited a sword/knife into Arlong's, shown a random slashing sequence, and then have everyone react to Bellemare's death. And with Nami stabbing the tattoo on her arm…what CaptainAWB1 said for it would work fine.
Also, the editing for Usopp vs. Chuu was ridiculous. They did not have to edit the ketchup...there was an episode of Kirby (yes, Kirby, another anime dubbed by 4Kids) that showed King Dedede drenched in red paint in the Halloween episode, and did a sort of Psycho spoof sequence that showed the red paint going down the drain. So since they let that go, they could have let the ketchup go.
And these cigars did NOT need to be edited. Codename: Kids Next Door shows cigars in it all the time. There was a baby smoking a cigar, for Pete's sake! As for cigarettes...they kept them in the Digimon dub, so I don't see why not here.

Unfortunately, they didn't change writers. -_- Still the same old bad puns and outdated slang. And everytime I see something good that gives me hope, all they have to do is have Usopp and Sanji talk, and it's like all for naught. XDAlso, the editing for Usopp vs. Chuu was ridiculous. Yeah, I just think that 4Kids wanted to get to Chopper faster so they hurried through the end of the Arlong Saga, and just wanted to show the Arlong V.S Luffy climax.

They took out most of the fight because it was a very serious and dramatic scene, which would bore the children. Kids don't like that, even in a fight scene they don't want it to be serious, just action-packed and/or silly. Same thing goes for Usopp. Anytime he has to stand and fight and show bravery would bore children.

You know how most of 4Kids target demographics are…. Short attension span.... They need action otherwise they get bored. Of course this doesn't apply to ALL of them. But most.....

Yeah, I know. At tv.com too. There's this dude that keeps saying all the recent episodes of Drum in the dub have been really boring because there's not enough action. The stupidity of some astounds me.
But still, I don't think they give kids enough credit. You'd think they'd find it a positive thing to show Usopp overcoming fear in a more realistic way.I was not like that as a kid though, and my niece who is now 13 isn't either.

But "Fantastic Voyage" and the whole Laboon fiasco and Little Garden skip came after that point. The only bright spot so far has been Chopper's arc.
And the arcs I've mentioned before. Chopper's arc is taking up most the new season so that's a pretty big bright spot and an indication of things to comes.
As for Fantastic Voyage, 4kids aired most of the first season without deleting episodes, but when the general audience wasn't interested, it forced 4kids to take action into their own hands to improve ratings.

Wrong again. An idea can be copyrighted and a name can be trademarked. For example DC owns the rights to Superman, therefore I can't publish a comic called "Superman". Someone, probably the creator's family, owns the rights to Zorro and can sue 4kids for copyright infringement. The fact that his name spelled differently doesn't make a difference.

I didn't say a name can't be trademarked. I said it can't be COPYRIGHTED. So sorry, you are wrong, they can't be sued for copyright infringement when there is no copyright to infringe. However, having actually looked into this, and even spoken to a Viz rep, the fact is that it had nothing to with Zorro.
Roronoa Zoro is quite different from Zorro anyway. -

I don't mind Shanks sounding sort of British, I just wish that if they were going to do that, they'd make the accent sound, you know, more real. I hate fake sounding accents that seem like they're making fun of stereotypes.

Shanks sounds like a person I saw in a dream once. He was this Omish kid who got abondoned and was sent to Chad then woke up in Easter Island. He then decided to flee to Madagascar where he lived off of monkeys and coconuts until he figured out he had Schizophrenia and killed himself with a coconut. His Japanese voice reminds me of Bon Clay but it isn't the same voice actor. He has the voice of Keroros biggest enemy, Nishizawa-kun

A (supporting) character's (i.e. Belmere, Hiruluk, Tom) death motivates the main character (Nami, Zoro, Usopp, & Chopper,) to pursue what they will eventually do (Zoro=become the greatest swordsman, Usopp=Be a brave warrior of the sea), or in Nami's case, hate Arlong. Now do you understand?

If it has nothing to do with Zorro that's fine but I find that hard to believe. Whoever owns the rights still have a legitmate claim. Also They also can't sell merchandise, or advertise bearing the name Zoro. Still too close.
Ronora Zoro different from Zorro? One is a latino looking swordsman, the other is a latino swordsman. Plus Oda's knack for borrowing traits from existing characters, I'm not so sure they're so different.
