Sorry, I'm not sure if this has been done before…
Besides saying "4Kids shouldn't have gotten ahold of it at all", but keeping the fact it may have still ended up being a little bit "kid-friendly", how much do you think it should have done it.
Most of what I can tell, cutting most (but not all) blood is understandable, as is cutting out vulgar language, but it did NOT need to be replaced by bad puns and stupid phrases.

but yeah.. for a kids show themes of self harm/bad words/nudness would have to have been cut..

Keeping that in mind, how do you think some of these themese should have been replaced? Such as Nami stabbing herself instead of Usopp in the Arlong Arc?
Well, I think that instead of sending Bellmerie to the dungeon, they could have had it so Bellmerie was fed to Moohmoo instead, and Nami was forced to watch to see what would happen to the villagers if she didn't agree to draw maps. Then they could have put in that scene where Arlong tears up her drawing of Bellmerie and have him say "If you waste time on stuff like this again, I'll make you watch as I feed a villager to to Moohmoo, just like I did with her."
I think that would keep his cruelty at the same level.
Or atleast very close to it.
The Navy should have Drum's famous "Grand Line Green Guns" as aposed to those stupid supersoakers. And I hope Paulie has a cracker in his mouth. XD

It would be a good idea concidering OP takes place in a fantasy world. But I don't mind at all.
They could have put a toothpick in Sanji's mouth instead of a lollypop. Not many people suck on lollypops ALL DAY long, but a lot have toothpicks in their mouths a lot. Hell, sometimes I put a toothpick in my mouth for hours for no reason whatsoever.
As for Nami stabbing herself, they could have had her look at the tattoo, raise the knife to stab her arm, then just cut to Luffy's stopping her. They would just edit out the blood on Nami's arm. I'm sure some of you may think that that idea takes too much impact out of the scene, but I think it could work. I think her anger towards Arlong is represented in the fact that she is willing to stab herself, not that she stabbed herself multiple times.
For Hiruluk's suicide, leave it the way it was in the original Japanese version.
Another thing, no accents. Not even a Mihawk. Okay, maybe he would get one. He's french, right? If they had to give him an accent, they should make his voice sound low & slightly-french, like in the original version.
Hirilluk's suiside turned out fine in the dub. So they edited it so that you didn't see the explosion… At least he still killed himself.
I would just like it if they didn't merge episodes, and didn't change plot points.
Yeah, but I like the way it was in the original more. It explains why there's a frigging crater. If they can't show the explosion, at least add a sound effect.

And I would have appreciated them not making Usopp suck so much. Like leaving in the rest of the fight with Chuu. Maybe they could have preserved a little shred of character development by keeping the scene where he plays dead. If the ketchup was really a problem (just saying that is ridiculous) they could have edited it out. I don't undertand why the Usopp Hammer part was cut either, you don't even see him hitting Chuu.

It seems like they've lightened up a lot since the beginning. I mean, they used to do stuff like Helmeppo's wierd hammer thing, and popguns, but now they even have real guns that are…painted green.
Also, they kept Hiruluk's suicide...couldn't they have kept Kaya threatening to kill herself with Jango's chakram instead of saying "on noz an amateur can't work that thing, it'll turn against you!" :rolleyes:

That because 4KIDS is Chopper's bitch. Since it's the arc that introduces their sure-to-be cashcow, they will make it as good as possible, but everything following the Drum Island arc will suck.
I think they could have left the Apis arc. Yeah yeah… I know, no one likes it, but it was hardly an affront to childrens' senses.
They needed to leave in Little Garden. If they ever get to W7 (And I shudder to think about that) they've removed a key element to something cool Usopp does.

Haha…well, it's a filler arc....if you mean bad by violent, it's not at all. In fact, it's probably the most tame and child-friendly arc in the whole series. I think they cut it for the same reason Little Garden was cut, they wanted to hurry up and get to Chopper's arc.
I sure hope that after Alabasta, they'll go staight to Jaya and skip the worst fillers in OP thusfar.

That's actually exactly how it IS shown in the original version. They never actually show Nami directly stabbing herself (that I recall), you just figure it out later because you see her bandages and Usopp is OK. But the reason why they changed that is because obviously they think that it would be too traumatic for kids to see what appears to be Nami killing someone.

I've never heard of Rockman EXE. (What channel is it on?) But I'm sure it's not as bad as the One Piece dub. Besides, have you seen their dub of Naruto? There's a couple of problems, but ethey're actually trying to make the show as similar to the japanese version as possible. Probably because the series is so popular and because it has such a hugh following. So I think they would do the same thing with One Piece.

Yeah, One Piece may have alot of mature moments…. But it's still too childish to really do any good on Adult Swim. It'll proboally have sunked like Detective Conan.

I think both Naruto and One Piece would have done better on AS than Detective Conan….but you're right that it would probably have a difficult time there. It's not really the type of shows that AS audiences expect. Even Lupin never did that well.

For all of you wanting less cutting in anime. CN showing TV-14 rated programming such as Naruto and now DBZ uncut at earlier times is very good sign.
As for OP. Well if you go by recent episodes, it seems they're getting their act together and loosening their editing. I'd be satisified if they all get together and establish once and for all, what is allowed on TV, so they can get consistent editing.

I don't know if Alabasta will really be the crappiest, worst edited arc. By content alone, I'd say Water 7 has a greater shot at that, but I don't know if they'll even make it there. And if they don't skip Skypiea, that will probably be cut down even shorter than Alabasta.
And they did keep Usopp's mom dying…although it was unbearably horrible to watch as far as acting is concerned. XD

I really don't think that they're thinking that far ahead, but if they do get that far, they'll probably just pretend like they didn't skip that arc in the first place. That or they'll just pretend that Usopp had giants for neighbors when he was a kid.

Naw I don't think so. The show been getting better since the start of Barogue arc and Lougetown arc was done pretty good with the exception of Ussop's ep. If chopper was suppose to be their big marketing boon then they wouldn't wait over a year to introduce him.

But "Fantastic Voyage" and the whole Laboon fiasco and Little Garden skip came after that point. The only bright spot so far has been Chopper's arc.

Not exactly. They just don't have the R and L sound the same way English speakers do. But as it's been explained many times, it's actually spelled by Zoro by Oda in the manga. It was spelled Zoro on every bit of merchandise in every country until 4Kids got One Piece. But we're all over that now, right? :rolleyes:
