Chapter 1,045: Next Level
-
-
I think one limitation for Gear 5 besides stamina, at least to nerf it for an arc or two, is that Luffy must get in that particular rhythm and he won't just be able to command his body to beat that fun sound every time.
-
What I was impressed by was that giant Luffy had basically no signs of the typical inertia of the giants. He could move freely and fast like he does in his normal Form. Dude did the sonic run in giant Form. It is like he is not bound by the laws of physics. So in other words, he can do all his arsenal in giant Form. Kinda hardcore and broken I would say, but Kaido made short work of him. Luffy was top ten anyways and the other top fighters are also monsters in their own way. Will we ever see G4 in Giant Form?
On the other hand, I assume that this giant forms consumes a lot of Haki. He needs to cover a way bigger surface, if he really coats himself permanently in G5.
I am sure that the final blow involves Luffy's giant forms. On the other hand, Oda said that it takes more than a hard punch to satisfy the readers. All white could be a hit or a miss. Nothing changes in the Manga, but i also watch the Anime… So. Maybe it changes when the dawn comes, when the sun rises. We may have a little supes here..

I guess many readers couldn't see it, so it must be the artist's fault.

Luffy was already at his normal size after Kaido blast breathed him…
But I don't think his giant form should limit his speed and fighting style anyway. We've already seen that Oars was quite fast when he had Luffy's shadow.

I think he maintained a large form until he pulled his head out of the dome. You can see in the subsequent panel he's larger than Kaidou.
Also, I posted this in the spoilers thread, but just wanted to reiterate that I've been enjoying Luffy's new form and powers. Not a fan of the rubber fruit being the nika fruit, but otherwise I like how he's using his powers. I feel like Luffy is still discovering what he's capable of.

It's probably another reference to old cartoon characters.

You're right. Luffy is pretty big in that panel where his face is splashing back to its place.
But there he's still much smaller than the super giant form if you consider that Luffy was much bigger than Dragon Kaido before.
I guess what happened is that Luffy was progressively getting smaller and smaller since the Blast Breath.
-
Katakuri DID say that… just not as explicitly. Doflamingo did too.
Oda put that clue there but he obscured it SO much it didn't register as an actual mystery or clue. Like I get he was trying to hide the surprise and that's his prerogative, but it would be nice if we could with hindsight go "oh, it was obvious! We just didn't know to look!" rather than "Well, I guess he sort of did it there... kind of."
tbh it always sticked out for me, displaying a possible awakening theme. (not like a zoan form ofc, but it was suspicious)
i thought it was rayleigh related tho -

I really like that idea, haha. I had to throw on some quick colors. Tried for an old-timey film grain on Luffy. Didn't come through super good, but I kinda like it.
(Though I think Oda made him all white to primarily contrast with darkness Blackbeard, probably…)

This is awesome! Good work.

Dang it!
I had a feeling there was going to be something I missed, now to re-read the entire manga to discover just when Oda first started planting the seeds. -
Red circle: stretch marks at the back of the head.
Blue circle: lots of stretching stress.
Orange figure: no knuckles where it was supposed to be.
Yellow circle: trembling effects.oh, maybe luffy picked kaidou’s nose.
also. i like the connections folks are making with this transformation x the energy steroids + sulong. very interesting…
-
HE'S MADE OF GODHOOD
How did that happen?
Yo ho ho, he took a bit of Nika -
Anybody else think Oda is hinting logia like properties also in Luffy's fruit? The way he penetrates Kaido's body eerily feels like logia.
He doesn't penetrate his body. Kaido's skin is stretching -like rubber- with the hit.
His fist is black with Haki before the hit, and after the hit as it retracts. It's pushing the skin of the back of his head to stretch out with the punch to his face.
-
I wonder where does Vegapunk fit into all this?
Who made the first DFs? Are they related to ancient kingdom? Is vegapunk one of their descendants? How old is vegapunk actually?
-

Makes me wonder what was the deal with Kaido's eyes. Did Luffy's powers just transform them into exit holes? We can see Luffy's nails when he grabs Kaido's nose, so it's not like he stretched the eyes like he did with Kaido's head.
-
It's just transparency. Kaido's head - thick, Kaido's sclera - thin.
-

More importantly, how is Luffy able to se the light outside through Kaido's eyes when he's inside Kaido's mouth? Rubber or not, that shouldn't be possible.

Rubber wouldn't explain eyes detatching from the skull like they're cheap stickers.
It's not just "ultra rubber", it's [cartoon logic]. -
we on break this week?
-
Not that I know. Should we be ? It's only been 2 chapters since the last break
-
we on break this week?
No but apparently redon won't be posting spoilers for a few weeks because of the Mangaplus leaks that happened recently.
-
Unless there's some last-minute schedule change, there's a chapter this week.
Spoilers may be late this week because Redon said he won't provide them.
-
Ah cool.
Its understandable.
They really go hard on this kind of stuff.
So what's the official stance for the site?
Can we still get spoilers from the Madlads who are risking everything?
Or is that just opening ourselves up to another DMCA claim that bricks the site.
-

-
Woah. Completely forgot Nola had whiskers.
-
I love this wacky new fighting style that Luffy has now.
But that short moment where he loses Gear 5 indicates that the jolly laughing is not natural. It's like he's intoxicated with joy when he uses Gear 5, and that makes me feel concerned for Luffy.Whatever the side effect is for Gear 5, it looks like it's going to be rather devastating.
-
It would give the Shueishtapo, one good solid piece of evidence to know where to look at for criminals.
They already know. They just like to let it continue so they can gather evidence. Sometimes they do it for years at a time so they can create a solid case like they did for Mangamura. Even longer for international cases. They're really, really, ultra stupid for posting the watermarked pics. Turning it grey and adding scratches around the time Yamato appeared didn't hide anything. It also helps that the Twitter posters plaster their names all over it.

I guess that proves One Piece has always applied cartoon physiology.
-
mannnnn i hope that no one snitched on them on purpose :///
-
First they came for the spoiler providers, and fat dawg did not speak up because he wasn't a spoiler giver upper. And then it just went downhill from there on, i think the whole forum was arrested and Robby was an undercover agent all along
-
Sry wrong thread
-

1. It's the internet.
2. They're posting material sent to a finite number of monitored outlets.
3. Third/fourth/fifth-party posters plaster their names all over them.No snitching involved, they megaphoned in their relationships. There's an entire office dedicated to piracy and although it moves in increments of years, it does move. I don't expect much to change during OP's lifetime beyond what it already has (take-down of mangamura, pursuing international law, providing manga free weekly in multiple languages) but it will change over the next 10 years or so.

Ok, now do the people come to arrest them dress up like Cipher Pol agents, tho?

i can't go back to slammer, you hear me!? i got mouths to feed.
-
@Johnny:
Ok, now do the people come to arrest them dress up like Cipher Pol agents, tho?
…...sorta ?
-
people shouldn't go to prison for piracy
-
Old distribution models must be protected.
If this internet thing takes off it'll be the end of us all.

Implying One Piece won't last another 10 years.

I like how nobody looks happy to be there lol

I love the fact that Kaidou and Luffy still speech like if it wasn't a fight "hey, i'm not in rubber like you!".
Looks like he is kinda intrigued by Luffy awakening completely crazy and you can see he's asking himself questions.Kaidou is not fighting trashy neither. Psychologically it's a bit "melted" in his head, + the fact that he was kinda pissed about how it ended with the CP-0 intervention.
Looks like he wants to fight to understand what's going on. And understand Luffy.
Looks like we got a change in the character, he saw everything in his pirate's life…
But nothing like this. Fighting an old comic book character. The power totally fits with Luffy personality and fighting style since the beginning, when their opponent say "fight seriously!" "But that's the way i fight! I'm serious!".
It's the pinnacle of what Luffy is, probably influed from the start by the DF (perhaps the Myth/Nika etc. came after, but i really believe that the max power of him would have been planned to be... Like this. Cartoony) -
Someone posted Merphy's review for last chapter and I really liked it, so here's the one for this chapter:
-
I was rereading volumes 31 and 32 last night, and I found it curious that in Viz's translation, Enel tells Luffy; You're just a Paramythia freak.
Which sounds like a combination between 'Paramecia and Mythological', which is exactly what Luffy is nowadays.
Its obviously a mistranslation, and I hope Oda never sees it cause he'll run straight into retconing it for his benefit
Besides it seeming more natural because we saw paramecium first, paramythia makes more sense translationally because it's meant to invoke that comparison than it is to an amoeba or the thing its closest too, Stephen the current translator even mentioned it on the last podcast
