When even Fatso and Hitler-Mustache Guy can't deny it, I think it worked.

To paraphrase:
"You couldn't hold the attention of literally every single person out of hundreds of audience members so my vote is 'no'"
Really? Like, really??? You've pretty much created an impossible standard if a rakugo performer wants a yes vote from you at all. @ Issho I hope you fall and break a hip!
Congrats Maikeru! Well deserved!
-
Oof, Afro-dude has a band-aid on his lip, I can't imagine how much that hurt.
And I'm calling it: Issho had his heart broken because his rakugo wasn't good enough, or something like that.
-
Shiguma is like one of the best Uncles out there.
-
Looks like we're in for some juicy lore and (rakugo) family drama! Can't wait!
-
I love these three.
-
This guy is like the best grandpa.
-
Shiguma's the best!
-
Definitely the best grandpa.
We haven't seen any indication that he had children/grandchildren, so his apprentices may very well be his children.
-
It's almost like being a fanfic writer and using crossovers.
-
-
it's just a seated elder babbling but it's INTENSE. Akane continues to be consistently good
-
I prefer funny rakugo, but when a storyteller is good then you get sucked in, funny or sad.
-
That spread with the photorealistic-ish scenery + the scraggly cartoon-ish god of death figure is chef's kiss
Totally ups the freaky factor.
I love this manga so much -
Yeah that doublespread was unsettling, in a good way
-
Makes me think of how people would talk about H.P. Lovecraft, who would actually use more vague descriptions of his monsters so that readers' own imaginations could fill in the blanks with whatever they found the scariest.
-
@Satsuki said in Akane-banashi:
who would actually use more vague descriptions of his monsters so that readers' own imaginations could fill in the blanks with whatever they found the scariest.
Yeah, sorry. As a Lovecraft fan that's not the reason. He was - aside the conceptual works of dreamworld and of eldritch horros - he was a very limited author.
For exemple his usage of non-euclidean as bigger on the inside than outside and weird angles when it merely means out of plane geometric forms. -
Well, now we know.
-
The coolest of cool masters.
It's funny about how lots of people joke about being "in the zone" for all sorts of activities, but this is a different kind of zone.
-
This backstory needs to be told. But how long will it be? Next week? Next month? Next year?
-
So what makes him such a stubborn old coot? Guilt.
-
"You've killed me." peaces out
(granted i don't know if those were OG shiguma's actual last words, but i would love it if they were) -
This felt like Yonkou making their moves in Early Piece, hype full galore!!
-
What . . . the . . . FUCK?!
-
Now that's what you call being caught off-guard. Really didn't see that one coming. ô.O
-
The interruption at just the right time, Akane conveniently being unable to get the door and the half-concealed face of the delivery driver gave me an ominous feeling. The guy is even still standing there, Suenaga seems to enjoy the creepy train
-
Makes you wonder if Fat Afro guy is the culprit. Although then you wonder why he didn't just do it sooner if it was him.
-
Y'all missing the obvious, the castle replica he ordered is cursed.
-
noooooo ToT
caught me by surprise, he better be okay. :( -
i want to physically fight this bitter old man.
(i know it's probably for the best given shiguma's condition, but still!). I hope we get a lot of malicious compliance from the shiguma squad. they'll carry on the shiguma branch in spirit at least. -
They won't let their old man down! (but damn, one giant twist after another . . .)
This reminds me of the problems that can affect professional singers. By using and abrasing their vocal cords so much they can develop polyps on them, which can make it harder to sing, which can mean surgery to get the polyps off, which is a risk of affecting/destroying their voices all together. Just ask Julie Andrews.
It wouldn't surprise me if said polyps could also lead to throat cancer if not treated properly.
-
Speak about turning your entire world upside down Ô.Ô
Whatever is coming, I have no doubt it will be entertaining. Likely hard for Akane, also, but I hope Issho will have enough respect for Shiguma to at least actually try and teach his students, not just bury the whole branch along with the master.I swear, this and Dandadan are currently my top 2 titles.
-
Really liked this last batch of chapters. Hopefully Akane can mellow out the Rakugo Grinch.
-
I had to go back and check what the deal is with Kibataraki. Chapters 6 and 7 if anyone's curious, it's nice to see such callbacks.
I didn't remember Urara's scary snake face, but it very much suits her to have this harsh side underneath the layers of seduction.
