A story about Rakugo.
Even though I have no knowledge about Rakugo, I loved the first 2 chapters.
The way the artist show the appearance to the audience of the multiple characters played by one person is very cool.
And the premise is nice. I like the motivation of the MC of "avenging" her father by keeping his "rakugo" alive and proving it's the best. But I guess it will be more than just that or that manga can't last long even if it's well received (praying it will).
Oh, yes, this one's off to a much better start compared to Earthchild. I don't know the first thing about Rakugo, but the characters and storytelling so far have me interested
One of the strongest first chapters in recent memory, really enjoying it.
the art is great, and I'm interested in following it a bit further. made me curious enought to try to catch some rokugo on youtube later on

damn this is so far so good, it makes me feel young and passionate again and I'm not even that old.
anyone who's into this can check out Asakusa Kid, which is basically rakugo and the backstory of Takeshi Mike (one of the most prominent director/comedian/actor) in Japan. He's also famous overseas and is pretty much a badass. I watched it and it's a great coming of age story regardless of your understanding of rakugo and it's fantastic if you want to time travel back to 60-70s Japan.

ngl that I'm HYPED for the next chapter. It's kinda funny how the authors can make such a fine use of shonen troupes even with a ROKUGO story
I say give akane and the old man some boxing gloves to duke it out.
I wonder if Issho will actually give a valid reason for what he did to akane's dad and the few others or will his reasoning just make akane (and me) dislike him more.
Who's to say? Even if it's a valid answer, he hasn't endeared himself to any reader so far. I just want an answer, like yesterday. So fast-forward a week already so we can find out.

I looked one up just now and I'm pretty impressed by an English version of it. Seems to be an officially recognized rakugoka!

Even if her dad stumbled in the beginning, at most they should have failed him...not freaking expelled him (and everyone else attempting to get promoted that year too). That's waaay overboard.
The hate he has for his 2nd in the school still seems to be the main reason.
Not a good enough twist to justify his actions, but a grounded response. My bet is that she'll take upon her shoulders to carry his father's dream.
I'm a bit confused that everyone is named Arakawa. Is there a tradition to pick up the name of your Rakugo school as part of your stage name, or is this whole manga one family washing their dirty laundry?

That was a thing with acting schools in olden days as well in Japan.

Nice wraping for the first arc! It's nice to have a heartfelt conversation between master and pupil with such light tone despite the weight of the scene; and the crafting of said weight was really well done by the authors.
I wonder if Akane's relationship with the internet will influence how she tackles her art and somehow pave her way into the future of rakugo
I love this series so much. This was the chapter we needed in regards to Shinta and the whole expulsion thing. Good follow up to ch 27&28.

Do they eventually change their first name too for the stage? Shinta's real name is Tohru (or at least that's what his wife always calls him, so I assume that's his actual name), right? So is that something they do further down the line or is changing their first name optional for the stage?
I feel like that part's optional, but hey, stage names and all that.
The Japanese are interesting in that historically they would change their names, like, constantly. The higher ranking ones, anyway. Change your name when you enter court, change your name when you marry, change your name if you become a monk/nun, change your name if you become a squire/samurai to a certain person, etc. Something like names are very fluid. It's not nearly as common now, but as you can see, it does happen.
Not gonna lie, recent chapters after the Issho confrontation and celebration party have kinda slowed down for me. I can see the need for an expanded cast to cover future events, but I feel it is being hammered in like your typical shonen crew of emperor this, general that, heavenly demon robert - instead of introducing them organically when they become relevant. First arc felt more subtle in that respect.
