oooh, nice personal drama to contrast the End of World As We Know It theme. Nice juggling.

I thought it was weird that he got sucked on the phone, but then I remembered he did that in chapter 1. Meanwhile, Seiko has been busy.

Grandma always delivers when it comes to entertainment

All I'm waiting now is for Aya or Okarun to join Momo and Jiji and make that tri-beam spiral into an even stronger death ray 8)
-
The using a gods power and having to pray at shrines as payment is a cool idea, also perfect way to keep her out of the fight
Does that have anything to do with the Shinto religion or myths?

No time up

Lovely Determination

"There is no such plan"

Which is stronger, the curry or the love letter ?

I can’t wait to see the power of the spiral

Kamehame...
-
Once again amazing fight scene choreography
-
The characters are good, the plot is fine, the designs are really great, and the paneling, layout, art, and everything else about this is just kinetic. Seems weird to be saying it but I'm excited to see where this author goes, and am okay with or even excited about the prospect of Dandadan ending.

First blood

I wanted them to win the first round against these 4 enemies, specially considering there're apparently a shit ton of them coming.
Aira needs a comeback, or at least show something that hits a bit harder before being out of comission.(That being said, they are doing well)
-
Aira needs a big special move if she does not want to be left behind.

Go Kinta, Go ! His daily routine is so pathetic yet so loveable, I'm completely rooting for this guy now.

Best chapter so far

I was wondering where he was
-
It was a very lovable chapter. I'm not sure what he will be able to do since he didn't train but he will manage

Alien technology can probably save her, right?

Vamos Vamola flashback
-
Now I'm confused, are sumerians aliens? Did the deadly dudes come to Earth before, or is this a different Sumer that happens to have elements of our local Sumerians?
-
@El-Matematico very unclear at the moment, especially since we have no idea how old Vamola really is and when that flashback is taking place - going by appearances she could be 14 years old and the conflict took place on a distant planet, but if her people age differently then 5,000 works as well and it could be the Earth of old. Either way the final fresco panel is crammed full of real-world civilizations references, so it's hard not to see a link and a really weird choice if the author is not actively trying to create one. I wouldn't be surprised if we get something akin to the myth of Atlantis, or a Stargate-like setting, where aliens ruled/visited the earth in ancient times but were eventually relegated to legend and forgotten.
Other than that, loved the chapter as usual. It says a lot about the series that I would have a hard time thinking of a single one that disappointed.
-
I think that by Sumerians he probably was meaning the Anunnaki, so going for the ancient aliens trope.
-
God mecha.
-
I was not ready for that

It explains why Turbo Granny was repulsed when she was shown the ball that powered the suit.
-
Chariot of the Gods.
-
Well, at least this answers my previous question. These Sumerians are descendants from Earth's Sumerians. Idea is Earth. And so, Vamola didn't come from the past.
-
It also explains how she led the aliens to earth unwillingly.

Am I alone in finding Vamola's story a bit...boring? which is wild, considering the very little explored sumerian aesthetic and that we have aliens mixed in to boot...
-
It's been a bit slow paced, but it will probably feel the right lenght when reading the whole volume.
-
I just want to get back to the fights and see how the power of the spiral is used, gives me Jojo part 7 vibes
-
@puffing-cinema kind of the same here. Which surprises me, because those super-tough grannies are endearing and the sumerian/alien designs are top-notch.
But I too find myself eager to go back to the present day battle. Possibly because Vamola is too recent an addition / too much secondary as a character to let us cut away so long from the main cast. Maybe it would feel better with some flashes of the present intertwined. Or read in one sitting.
-
or if she had an actual personality...
-
I guess the flashback was to flesh her but it is not really successful. The grannies are great but we lack a bit if background and a lot if time is spent on battle. It is a bit frustrating but it is still an entertaining read
-
Yeah. It doesn't help that Vamola spent most of her panel time so far either speaking inintelligible gibberish or as an immature child: she is both the focus of the flashback and the least interesting character in it.
-
It's the first big story arc involving a large amount of characters in the series and it shows. All the others arcs were much smaller in scale and involving just a few characters. The antagonists are not just some cryptids, a few aliens or a couple of yokais but an entire army of powerful aliens that have come to enslave earth.
It's also hard to believe that a bunch of inexperienced kids with superpowers could take on those aliens when we see how easily they beat the Sumerians. An arc of this scale and with this much at stake, might have come too early in the story.

Star Gate
-
This would be a heavy hitting chapter if Vamola was an ounce more interesting. Still, I appreciate it for the grandeur. Granny was a fun character. Definitely a chapter I'd love to see animated one day.
-
I think the problem is that the flashback is really really predictable. Every interesting element (Sumerians, resistance army made entirely of old ladies) was layed out on its first chapter, but going from there you could tell exactly how everything would go and it went as predicted without even the slightest twist.
This is a manga that is usually liked because of how unpredictable it can be, so spending over a month on a flashback that was anything but that was a let down.
