That was glorious.
Throughout this month, we will be testing new features (like search) so you may experience some hiccups from time to time. We'll try to not be too disruptive...

That was glorious.

One hell of a chapter. It's amazing how some titles in Jump are leagues ahead of the rest. I wish they had a couple more of this caliber, I would trade them any day over the likes of Earthchild or PPPPP
-
I screamed at my computer over "JENNIFER LOPEZ: ANACONDA" LMAO
the action flow is super easy to read, I just love the silly humour and how handsome the double pages end up being. One of my favs to read weekly rn.

If you an UFO isn't it just a FO?

Awww, that was nice. Always a treat when two characters actually get closer.
I keep wanting to consider Turbo Granny adorable but then I remember where she started out.
-
I gotta admit, that horrible foul-mouthed old hag grew on me
Now to see how they deal with Jiji -
Evil Eye Switch
https://mangaplus.shueisha.co.jp/viewer/1012900 -
I like where this is headed…
! Lots of potential for hot/cold water killmode switch, now that's one take on Ranma I want to see more of.
-
I'm glad the alien is back and will stay on Earth.
-
hahaha, Jiji got Ranma-ed.
cool that we have out first alien in the regular cast, now.
-
Never forget your thermos
https://mangaplus.shueisha.co.jp/viewer/1012917 -
I'm picking out a thermos, for you~
Cute chapter. I guess it makes sense the old woman was actually something else? I wrote off her apparent super strength and ability to go toe to toe with supernaturally powered people as a quirk of the series, but in retrospect it makes sense. With the themes having moved on from pervy stuff, this series is actually kinda charming.
-
So it was not an ancestor that looked exactly like the present old hag but actually her for centuries.

That last spread…
-
Nice to see Aira getting more and more friendly.
Loved that panel with the anatomy model sneaking away while Turbo Granny is grumpy because of a fluffy cushion. On a side note, panels like that are a great example of how well this author handles portraying time and space. Characters don't stand there like dolls focusing on one thing, they're always moving and interacting. It's inspiring to look at.
Also that double spread. That's exactly the kind of thing double spreads should be used for XD
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Oh my god Turbo Granny has a tiny chair.
-
Hilarious last spread, really enjoyed the small interactions and the panel layout this time. Really highlighted the growing bonds of the group and made them feel closer.
-
@Zar:

And it's CLEAN. Not cluttered at all, clean lines, clean panel design. The more I pay attention to it, the better it gets.
Oh my god Turbo Granny has a tiny chair.
lol i missed that
-
I like how Turbo Granny is just chilling with them despite not needing to eat.
-
their iteractions this chapter was so nice, even jiji's maneirisms were ok in that layout.

Glam Exorcism
https://mangaplus.shueisha.co.jp/viewer/1013088 -
just finished the chapter with a huge-ass smile on my face, this series is so gooood
-
I will say it a thousand times over, where is the anime?!
This series makes me so happy reading it.
-
Yeah. I'm beginning to sound like a broken record, but it's sooo much more enjoyable than most current Jump publications. Author is right up there in my personal pantheon next to Fujimoto
-
I'm sure I've said this already, but this and Sakamoto is scratching an itch I didn't know I had.
Stories that don't take themselves too seriously. Art that's easy to follow. Action scenes that are fun. Arcs that don't drag on too long. It's like watching a James Bond movie or Indiana Jones, takes your mind off things and makes you laugh.
I'm all for reading something that's experimental or sarcastic or has some important message, but I've been missing light-hearted stories like these. Something that's has that perfect balance of comedy but still knowing when to take things seriously. I especially love that the action isn't just about beating the bad guy, but having fun. Putting characters in ridiculous situations so you laugh and wonder what the heck the author will come up with next. And those scenes are so well made, they're a joy to look at.
-
Well, he was mentored and served as an assistant (and also friend) of Fujimoto. But out of the two (three if we count Yuji Kaku), Yukinobu is actually insane in terms of art quality. From character designs to art quality to action scenes to direction, this guy is actually insane. I'm not saying Fujimoto is somehow lacking in art quality, no one can do scenes like Fujimoto and no one is crazier than him but in terms of overall line quality: DDD is a lot cleaner.
I'm not sure why this is not in Jump but you know, it doesn't really matter because SPY X FAMILY wasn't either and it blew up. DDD will blow up in time and I'm sure MAPPA have their sights set on it, problem is to let it breathe a little more and have a few more arcs because with how much action there is: the anime will blow through it fast with a healthy pacing.
I'm really loving the next generation of mangaka. People like Fujimoto, Yukinobu and Tatsuya Endo all share the similarities of penning their work in hilarious ways and never forgetting the fun aspect while charging ahead with great pacing and characterization. It's just so damn good and they all stand so distinctly on their own that despite premises being similar to things we've read before, you never actually feel like it was inspired from something else. -
I'll be honest, I am sad the moe-moe tri-beam at the end didn't erupt into an actual spiritual death ray
Maybe it will eventually. Fingers crossed !
-
Aww, so cute!
Reminds me of one of my favourite chapters from My Monster Secret, but more cute.
-
It takes a best friend to bring your crush to your new job JUST to shame you. A character-driven chapter like that in One Piece would've made me sooooo happy
-
From fluff to fist
https://mangaplus.shueisha.co.jp/viewer/1013102 -
Oh my god so cuuuuuteeeee!!!!!!
It's so nice to have a relationship that steadily progresses instead of staying in limbo until the finale.
I also liked seeing Momo doing well at her job instead of it being played 100% for comedy. She's trying her best!
It's so wholesome!
-
Yes ! So far this series achieves a perfect mix of endearing character interactions and bite-your-nails tense action. Here's to hoping it lasts.
-
From 0 to 100 real quick, man.
-
https://mangaplus.shueisha.co.jp/viewer/1013225 Damn, I had almost forgotten Turbogranny is below the Evil Eye by a mere hair's width on the Pyschometer. Pretty sure she's up to something.
-
! Is the training inspired by the fight sequence from Doctor Strange
or are fights with musical notes more common than I realized? -
Shit, I totally miscalculated. I thought I had a buffer of like 80+ chapters, and suddenly I'm hit with the "next chapter 23/05". I ate through it in like 2 days.
What can I say? This is a joy to read. Sometimes the character drama / comedy / romance doesn't land 100% for me (but even that is getting progressively better?), but the heart is there and it feels really good.
But where this manga blows everything else out of the water is in the art department. The execution, the double spreads, the clean lines, the designs, the sense of space, the fight choreography, the mobility, the dynamism. . .
I won't say "this might rival Murata's One Punch Man" in terms of presentation…but this might rival Murata's One Punch Man in terms of presentation?
Anyways, weekly grind, here we go.
-
Stop. Mecha Time.
https://mangaplus.shueisha.co.jp/viewer/1013727 -
poor evil eye, someone always steal the show out of him
-
Once a week or so I watch movies with a friend of mine, and we have this stupid running joke of "and now this house/castle/Great Wall of China/wathever is gonna turn into a giant Mecha!", which has only become a reality once (Batman Ninja).
Of course, Dandadan is the manga where they suddenly turn a house into a giant Mecha to fight an alien kaiju. Thank you, Dandadan.
-
Do you think the perv otaku will obtain kaiju superpowers ? Or he will keep driving the house-robot like Henry in Black Clover ?
-
Using the house for battles may be a little problematic in the long run. I would expect this full-robot mode to be a one-time thing, and him to join the gang while getting intermediate-level powers later on.
-
Maybe he obtains a separate set of nano skin from the aliens. Could be some kinda downgraded version that's not as good, so he's not overpowered.
-
He keeps a small amount of nanoskin to use as a battle suit instead of a mecha.
-
I’m loving this series
I love some of the crazy stuff there pulling
Evil musical conductor monsters made from the subconscious fear of famous classical composers
A nano skin house being turned into a giant robot to have a fight against a massive Kaijuu
Hell even the simple concept of Monsters, ghosts and Yokai keeping the earth safe from aliens that will no doubt lead to some conflict down the line is spectacular
I mean I love the idea of monsters vs aliens
Wait wasn’t there some horrible animated movie based on that, okay I take that back, I like monsters vs aliens when it’s executed well
-
Who you gonna call? Kaiju busters.
https://mangaplus.shueisha.co.jp/viewer/1013748 -
The Kaiju fight I didn't know I needed to see
