Woo! Biden won the electoral college and no faithless electors! Though I doubted that any faithless elector would have voted for Trump anyway, as in 2016, none of the faithless electors gave it to Trump but to other peeps.
Demon Rin, you can breathe now! I told you it be okay!
@Dorobō:
And all the swings state electors have voted so this is a done deal.
Oh and SCOTUS is not getting rid of gay marriage: https://lawandcrime.com/supreme-court/even-with-three-trump-appointed-justices-on-the-bench-scotus-declines-to-roll-back-marriage-equality/
Woot! This is great news!
And it makes sense because it's already a done deal, and no point in turning back something if it isn't hurting anyone. Good thing most of SCOTUS actually do their job and look past party affiliation. (Well, for the most part anyway.)

Welcome to the Resistance, Newsmax.

My boy Mayor Pete will be a great Secretary of Transportation.
I do wonder if he'll move in or near Virginia or better yet Maryland and run for a house seat or such in the future.

Bozo nd Kim are the only one yet to congratulate Biden. Christ that's pathetic.
Now only Kim is left, but I don't think that is ever happening.

Randy made us a Christmas present:

[h=1]Day 1426: "A modicum of grace and dignity."[/h]
! 1/ The FDA confirmed that Moderna’s two-dose COVID-19 vaccine was “highly effective” and safe for adults, setting it up for an emergency authorization later this week to become the country’s second authorized COVID-19 shot. The FDA said the vaccine is 94.5% effective at preventing COVID-19 cases at least 14 days after vaccination and that there were no significant safety concerns. An FDA document also shows that asymptomatic infection was reduced by 63% after the first shot. Between the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines, the U.S. has acquired 300 million doses in the first quarter of 2021 – enough doses for 150 million people. ! 2/ The FDA authorized the first home test for COVID-19 that doesn’t require a prescription. The test will cost about $30 and be available by January. The antigen test takes about five minutes to collect the sample and produces results within 15 minutes. (NPR / Politico / CBS News)
! * Pence will likely get the coronavirus vaccine by the end of the week. White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany, meanwhile, said that Trump is open to taking the coronavirus vaccine, but would not commit to the timing or Trump being inoculated in public to inspire confidence in its efficacy. (CNN)
! 3/ Mitch McConnell acknowledged Biden as president-elect for the first time – six weeks after the November election. McConnell also urged Senate Republicans not to join House members in contesting the state electoral results during the Jan. 6 joint session. “Many of us hoped that the presidential election would yield a different result, but our system of government has processes to determine who will be sworn in on Jan. 20,” McConnell said in a speech on the Senate floor. “The Electoral College has spoken. So today, I want to congratulate President-elect Joe Biden.” Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer later took the floor, saying, “For the sake of the country President Trump should take his cue from leader McConnell that it’s time to end his term with a modicum of grace and dignity,” adding, “enough is enough.” (New York Times / ABC News / Politico / NPR / CNN / CBS News / Axios / CNBC)

! 4/ The White House refused to follow Mitch McConnell in acknowledging Trump’s election defeat. When asked about the electoral college vote, White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany said: “The president is still involved in ongoing litigation related to the election. Yesterday’s vote is one step in the constitutional process. So I will leave that to him and refer you to the campaign for more on that litigation.” When asked whether Trump plans to invite Biden to the White House, McEnany declined to say. (The Guardian / Washington Post)
5/ Biden will nominate Pete Buttigieg to be his secretary of transportation. Buttigieg would be the first openly gay Cabinet secretary should his nomination make it through the chamber. The transportation secretary is expected to play a central role in Biden’s push for a bipartisan infrastructure package. (Politico / Washington Post / CNN / Reuters)
6/ Trump is diverting 75% of most donations for the Georgia Senate runoff elections to his new Save America political action committee, which he plans to use to fund his future political activities. The other 25% is going to the Republican National Committee. (Politico / Business Insider)
7/ A New York judge rejected Trump’s claim of attorney-client privilege to shield documents from the New York Attorney General’s office. The Trump Organization has until Friday to turn over documents related to its Seven Springs Estate and its $21.1 million tax break. New York Attorney General Letitia James is investigating whether the Trump Organization improperly inflated the value of Seven Springs as part of the conservation easement on the property. (ABC News)
8/ Russian hackers breached at least five federal agencies as part of a months-long global espionage campaign. Hackers compromised the Treasury and Commerce departments, the State Department, the Department of Homeland Security, the National Institutes of Health, and parts of the Pentagon. About 18,000 private and government users downloaded a software update from SolarWinds, a widely used network-management software, that was manipulated by Russian hackers. Among those who use SolarWinds software include the CDC, the State Department, the Justice Department, parts of the Pentagon, and numerous utility companies. (Washington Post / New York Times)

Trump will never admit defeat because the narrative he wants to build for the next 4 years is that Biden is an illegitimate President.

I honestly hope he has a coronary between here and 2024.

If he admits defeat then he sacrifices all ownership over his cult.
So far this is working out exactly how we want it to, with Mitch and the GOP on one side and Trump's cult firmly on the other.
I look forward to Republicans' embarassing loss of the senate in January.

[h=2]Day 1427: "We want them infected."[/h]
! 1/ Nearly 8 million Americans fell into poverty over the past five months. The poverty rate jumped to 11.7% in November – up 2.4 percentage points since June. The federal poverty line is $26,200 for a family of four. (Washington Post)
! * The Federal Reserve officials expect the U.S. economy to shrink by 2.4% this year and for the GDP to roughly equals that of 2009 — the worst year of the Great Recession. (Politico / Washington Post)
! 2/ Congressional leaders and the White House are nearing agreement on a roughly $900 billion coronavirus relief deal that would include another round of direct payments. Checks are expected to be in the $600 to $700 range per person – less than the checks of $1,200 per person in the initial round earlier this year. The measure would also contain enhanced federal unemployment insurance, roughly $300 billion in Paycheck Protection Program loans, money for COVID-19 vaccine distribution and testing, and relief for hospitals. The bill, however, is not expected to include any new money for state and local governments. Congress must also pass a new spending bill by midnight Friday to avoid a government shutdown. (Washington Post / NPR / CNBC / Wall Street Journal / NBC News / New York Times)
3/ A Trump administration official repeatedly urged top health officials to adopt a “herd immunity” approach to COVID-19 and encourage millions of Americans to be infected by the virus. “Who cares” if “infants, kids, teens, young people, young adults, middle aged with no conditions” get infected, Paul Alexander, a senior adviser at the Department of Health and Humans Services, wrote in an email to health officials. “We want them infected.” Alexander also argued that colleges should stay open to facilitate the spread of COVID-19, saying “There is no other way, we need to establish herd, and it only comes about allowing the non-high risk groups expose themselves to the virus. PERIOD.” (Politico / Bloomberg / Axios)

- Portrait of a president: Trump appointees describe the crushing of the CDC. “The White House insisted on reviewing — and often softening — the C.D.C.’s closely guarded coronavirus guidance documents, the most prominent public expression of its latest research and scientific consensus on the spread of the virus. The documents were vetted not only by the White House’s coronavirus task force but by what felt to the agency’s employees like an endless loop of political appointees across Washington.” (New York Times)
! 4/ The White House counsel’s office “strongly” advised Trump not to fire FBI Director Christopher Wray after the election because it could put him in potential legal jeopardy. Trump wanted Wray to more aggressively investigated his political opponents, including announcing a probe into Biden’s son before November’s election. White House lawyers, however, told Trump that firing Wray would risk creating the perception of a “loyalty test” and could be seen as retaliation because Trump had publicly pressured him to take specific actions on certain investigations. (NBC News / Bloomberg)
! * Trump’s Director of National Intelligence is considering withholding certification of a report on foreign efforts to interfere with the Nov. 3 election. While the report is supposed to be delivered to lawmakers on Friday, John Ratcliffe wants the report to cite China more prominently.(Bloomberg)
! 5/ Trump has reportedly been pushing to have a special counsel appointed to investigate his baseless allegations of voter fraud and allegations surrounding Hunter Biden. Trump — angry that Attorney General William Barr didn’t publicly announce the investigation into Hunter Biden before the election — has consulted with White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, White House counsel Pat Cipollone, and outside allies on names of potential appointees. While a special counsel must be named by the attorney general, the Justice Department will undergo a change in leadership next week when Barr resigns. Trump has asked whether he could name one himself. (Associated Press / CNN)
6/ Betsy DeVos urged career employees at the Education Department to “be the resistance” when the Biden administration takes over next month. During a department-wide virtual meeting to discuss the transition to the new administration, DeVos told employees: “Let me leave you with this plea: Resist. Be the resistance against forces that will derail you from doing what’s right for students. In everything you do, please put students first — always.” (Politico)
7/ Biden will nominate Jennifer Granholm to run the Energy Department. Arun Majumdar, a scientist and engineer who led a new research agency under the Obama administration, is under consideration as deputy secretary. Biden also tapped Gina McCarthy, who ran the EPA under Obama, to coordinate the administration’s domestic climate agenda. (Politico / Washington Post)

Weekend golf trips only, Don.

So by scheming to pay less taxes, and than using a commercial propriety as residence to vote registry he commit voter fraud?

Pretty much, yup. Hypocrite jackass.

Close! It was "MAGA2020!"
No, seriously, it actually was that. The lowhanging joke answer that everyone goes to as the stupidest possible dumbest thing it could be that anyone could guess…
His password really was MAGA2020! The exclamation point is what made it secure.
And apparently his 2016 password was "yourefired".
Seriously.
I'm kind of amazed he hasn't had dozens of hackers.

I guess the mail is harder to come by. While I do check a lot of twitter, I just log in when I change machine/phone every 4-6 years, so no idea if they ask for mail or username.

Well, the one sole silver lining is when the boomers finally die off, we may finally get some things changed here since each consecutive generation gets more aware of how fucked things are.
-
I get why people say that but I think we should focus more on where population shifts are happening instead of just hoping older conservatives die off.
Arkansas used to have Democrats but check out their last few senate races and such, the ancestral Democrats all died off/switched parties and now we don't even bother to run against guys like Tom Cotten there. It's just a free red state.
On the other hand, suburbs get more diverse because they are well educated and well educated people tend to favor diversity and diversity tends to, but not always, favor Democrats. It's how we got a win in GA and other states. Running more people like Biden and Harris will expand that.
And gone the Boomers, here comes the Gen Xers in charge who were pretty big into the Trump juice and then in about 20 years kids will be wondering why the second coming of the Boomer, the Millennial, won't die off already. It's not as simple as waiting around for people to die off, we have to make action happen in the meantime.
-
I wonder if any republican state will shift to democrats faster with the popularity of remote working (I assume rural places have lower cost of living)

Governor Ralph Northam announced on December 21 that Virginia’s statue of Confederate general Robert E. Lee was removed from the United States Capitol overnight.
-
Just a friendly reminder that in the prelude to Gettysburg, Lee's Army kidnapped any black people they found, even if they were actually free, and sent them southbound to be enslaved.
In short, fuck Robert E. Lee.
-
Somehow, Republicans managed the perfect political grift.
Just be so cartoonishly evil that people stop expecting you to listen to reason, and people will stop criticizing you because what's the point?
Then you can sabotage the COVID Stimulus by saying no to the $1200 checks the Dems wanted, insist upon giving evil corporations get out of lawsuit free cards, and refuse to authorize bailout money for schools and when a shitty compromise bill that you forced into that shitty situation pisses people off, The Democrats take ALL the blame for "Not fighting hard enough" and because Nancy Pelosi said the word "Significant".
This is a goddamn clown show.
-
I heard something about there being huge amount of due backtaxes that will come back into play in january. Is there any truth to that?
-
Speaking of clown shows
https://www.rawstory.com/anti-mask-lawmaker-forced-to-sit-in-box/
Penalty boxes for legislators that won’t wear masks.
-
I haven’t heard anything about the backtaxes. But Rin is definitely right that like 40% of Americans are blaming Pelosi and the Dems for shit that was completely engineered by Republicans.
-
Oh well that is good to hear. What i had heard was something akin to certain taxes being defered for 2020 and then it would come roaring back in 2021 essentially hitting people while they're already down.
-
It's so fucking weird how the republicans never get shit for the awful things they do. It's like people expect that and want the democrats to stop this, instead of stopping voting GOP.
-
All the Leftists I see online are 99% shitting on Pelosi, the Dems, and "Out of touch Neoliberals" in general over this, with the other 1% being very brief half-hearted mentions of McConnell. Pelosi is in all the memes and cartoons. The court of Leftist Discourse has spoken, and this is all Nancy's fault.
The ONLY person I've seen shitting on the dems who actually made a good point was Cody Johnson of SomeMoreNews saying basically that we know Pelosi and the Dems wanted more and we know this is a shitty compromise McConnell and the Republicans forced on them, so why aren't they shouting that from the rooftops? Why are they trying to pretend this is fine?
I saw it suggested it was because technically the vote hasn't happened yet and Pelosi is afraid Mitch will pull out of the deal if she throws him under the bus so she's waiting until after that so we can at least get SOMETHING in peoples hands before decrying it an fighting for more…. maybe?
-
It's so fucking weird how the republicans never get shit for the awful things they do. It's like people expect that and want the democrats to stop this, instead of stopping voting GOP.
When you have stupid people half of whom don’t understand politics and the other half sees themselves in Republicans (despite most republicans being millionaires and billionaires which most of these people themselves aren’t) of course you’re going to have idiocy like this.
And yes democrats don’t help themselves by taking it in the ass, being flakes, and making the occasional heel turn but still.
-
Woot! I'm so happy that Congress compromised and successfully made a Coronavirus bill! I'm glad there is some bipartisanship, and hopefully once Biden gets into office there will be more of it, as he is a strong supporter of working together! This is a good first step to slowly reuniting the nation, but there is still much to be done.

- The CDC warned that travelers could spread a newly identified coronavirus strain from the U.K. to the U.S. European officials said the variant could be up to 70% more transmissible than other varieties. (Politico)
! 2/ The Senate approved more than $900 billion in emergency economic relief, government funding, and tax cuts shortly after the House passed the same package, which now head to Trump’s desk. While Trump is expected to sign that measure, logistical complexities – it must be enrolled on parchment paper, physically delivered to the White House and reviewed by administration lawyers – prevented the bill from quickly getting to him. Separately, Trump signed a seven-day government spending bill, averting a federal shutdown. Tucked inside the spending bill was over $110 billion in tax breaks for special interests. The stimulus bill will also limit the Federal Reserve’s ability to aid businesses, states, and cities through emergency lending. Biden, meanwhile, warned that the “darkest days” of the pandemic “are ahead of us, not behind us.” He called on Congress to prepare for a third stimulus package early next year. (NPR / Bloomberg / Washington Post / USA Today / Washington Post / CNN / Bloomberg / CNBC)
3/ Trump met privately with a group of congressional Republicans at the White House in preparation of a final effort to overturn the election results. The discussion reportedly focused on a contingent of House and Senate Republicans who are committed to objecting to the election results, prompting a marathon debate on the floor on Jan. 6, which would roll into Jan. 7. Rep. Mo Brooks said there are plans to challenge the results in six states, which could lead to about 18 hours of debate. Brooks and the group also met with Pence, who will preside over the joint session of Congress when lawmakers certify the Electoral College votes on Jan. 6. Trump, meanwhile, has been complaining about Pence, who he views as not fighting hard enough for him. In particular, Trump reportedly views Pence’s constitutional duty to certify the election result as the ultimate betrayal. Trump, meanwhile, lashed out at Mitch McConnell for acknowledging Biden’s victory, sending Republican senators a slide taking credit for McConnell’s career that read: “Sadly, Mitch forgot” – a reference to his June 19 tweet endorsing the Senate leader.
