That being said, miles better than both former choices.

Like I said regardless if DNC will opt for Harris or not they should use the convention as a showcase for their candidate.

Yeah and it's still trucking along. Heck, no known Democrat is planning to even contest her, and are behind Harris from the get-go. Her nomination is pretty much set, game, and match.

Only Joe Manchin is trying to get back into the Democratic Party to re-register and compete against her but with the amount of fundraising that has been happening in Harris's favor since the announcement and the overwhelming support she got from many known Democrats and progressive caucuses, Joe Manchin isn't winning this.

I mean, confirmation bias and media bubble and all, but I've seen nothing but doom and gloom everywhere I visit for the last month, and last night folks are optimistic and energized. And having a woman when one of the issues is going to be Roe is kind of a thing.

The fact that the Republicans have NOTHING to hit Harris with is great, the best they've got so far is "her laugh is annoying!"

That Donnie is complaining on twitter that "no fair, we just spent all that time and money attacking Biden and now you just pick a better candidate? Not fair!" is fun.

Florida is actually a curious case, as they've got abortion on the ballot during the election. We all know the chances of the voters approving of abortion are high based off of not only other states, but approval of abortion in Florida.

The abortion proposition could drive up voter turnout of people who want abortion to be legal. However, I've not been optimistic that means that Democrats can win in Florida. Right now there is a lot of ignorance on the subject, in the most baffling of manners. For instance, there are people that think because Roe v Wade was overturned under Biden's presidency, that Biden is responsible for it. Straight-up cluelessness like this in the populace is one of our biggest enemies.

If we could get the Democrats to effectively rightfully tie the loss of abortion rights to Trump and the Republicans, that's the key. There is indication that in the 2022 midterms that tie was made, but it still didn't save Florida from re-electing Ron DeSantis, which is a very bad sign.

I don't know that Dems should try to focus much on Florida. It seems like it's becoming a loss cause. So many crazy right wingers have flocked to the state and the demographics have changed.

It's weird, after years of seeing Democrats sabotage themselves, and also dreading Biden dropping out, it feels like the worst has happened and yet they're following it up with a lot of really good moves. I'm actually hopeful that Harris has a fighting chance.

It was going for a long time, but since he'd mostly just been doing teleprompter speeches where he seemed pretty solid you could write it off as age and his lifelong stutter and an ocassional just being human gaffe, but otherwise "in good shape and with a lot of experience."

Then that debate happened and he had to do live responses and just... oof. That night was the first time a lot of people realized he wasn't going but gone.

Anyone that didn't actually watch the debate has no idea how colossally bad it actually was. The news stories were partisan attacks (since they're not going after all of Trump's issues) because there was blood in the water... but "he's too old" wouldn't have held so much traction if the evidence wasn't really really clear.

Something that often gets forgotten is how these so-called red states are only red due to how they are structured in the elctoral college and voting districts to favor conservative politicians. Many, many queer people and people of color live in these states and either can't move out of them or frankly should not have to. It's not feasible to just expect people to leave their homes when we should instead be focused on helping these states fix or outright scrap and replace their systems.

I like Kelly as a pragmatic choice - Arizona is battleground but the (democratic) governor would pick another dem to keep the seat

I read more about Beshear though and he sounds great, although I feel Kentucky should hold onto him for as long as they can.

We will see how far this will carry, but I find it already surprising how hard this switcheroo distracted from the Trump shooting. Because I've got to be honest here, the pictures produced from that incident couldn't be more insane, impressive & badass. Impossible to deny, difficult to downplay.

I always thought US american elections are ridiculous, with people talking to empty chairs (now dogs...), trash-tv celebs getting heavily involved and of course the total shitshow that was Trump vs. Hillary. But the shooting really felt like endgame craziness.

And it lasted for a week. Like, for me the day Trump got shot on stage was the most important event in modern politics, but for the world I live in it was just Tuesday. In this case it's obviously beneficial, but I can't help but feel troubled by the sheer pace at which we digest stuff of this magnitude.

Trump was pretty clearly struck by fragments of glass or metal and not the bullet he claimed though; he can't even use something like somebody trying to kill him without embellishing it to make himself look more impressive. And embellishing it to a ridiculous degree with the whole bandage situation, especially since he had previously appeared without one.

Plus he clearly wasn't changed by the event, has been exploiting said event where another person died (whose wife he clearly never would have called if the press hadn't talked about him not calling), and, last but sadly not least, the whole profile of the shooter basically comes down to "would have shot up a school but decided to go big instead".
