Rest in Power Aaron. -
As far as I can tell presidents can’t do that with money they already owe. Not to mention given the screeching Republicans did over Biden attempt to cancel student loan debt it would be funny to see Trump attempt to do that.

Yeah, I came across the uncensored video. It's something for sure.
Not to take away from his message, but the most significant thing from the video I've taken away was the one police officer doing nothing but keeping his gun on him as he burned. As the other people responding are frantically trying to put out the flames on the boy, as one responder screams AT the cop "I don't need guns, I need a fire extinguisher" the police officer just watches the man burn with his gun on him. Doing nothing but watch him suffer as others try to save him.

I don't think there's a better exemple of what police forces in this continent are for than what was display at the video.

It’s a shame though that rather than admit that she had to unsurprisingly lie about why she was really leaving when you make people like George Santos look more dignified in being embattled you know you suck.

The ultimate monkey's paw is finally being rid of Manchin and Sinema only to potentially have worse people filling their shoes.

@pariston_hill so basically instead of fixing the problem they just gonna pull a 1984 but with the army being in New York City instead of helping people. Oh Boi.……..

@MetaMario Manchin was rarely helpful but he's probably better than whoever replaces him. Sinema was a waste of space and will potentially be replaced by someone much better.

Day 1148: "Requisite intent."
1/ A group of Independent and Democratic senators led by Bernie Sanders urged Biden to suspend U.S. military aid to Israel until it allows humanitarian assistance to reach Gaza. In a letter, the senators argued that blocking aid violates the Foreign Assistance Act. The senators insisted that more leverage is needed to change Israel’s policy. (New York Times / New Republic)

2/ The Biden administration announced a $300 million weapons package for Ukraine. The aid will be drawn from existing U.S. stockpiles and is meant as a stopgap measure to address the country’s need for ammunition and air defense systems amid Russia’s ongoing attacks. The move comes as Congress remains deadlocked over a $60.1 billion Ukraine aid bill, with the U.S. having exhausted its assistance to Ukraine since the last package in December 2022. (New York Times / NBC News)

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán claimed Trump told him he would cut off military aid to Ukraine to end the conflict with Russia. Orbán’s comments come after his visit to Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate last Friday, where the Trump praised Orbán despite his critical stance on providing aid to Ukraine and his resistance to NATO expansion. (NBC News)
3/ Trump may not have sufficient liquid assets to cover the full $464 million civil fraud judgment against him if he loses his appeal. In a court filing, NY Attorney General Letitia James argued that Trump and his co-defendants should be required to post cash or bonds covering the entire amount to pause the judgment while they challenge the ruling, citing potential fluctuations in his real estate holdings’ value, post-judgment interest, and his other legal battles, including an $83.3 million defamation judgment. James urged the appeals court to reject Trump’s bid to stay the judgment with a $100 million bond, warning that Trump and his co-defendants might attempt to evade or impede enforcement of the judgment if they lose the appeal. (NBC News / CNBC / ABC News)
4/ Trump plans to argue in his upcoming hush money trial that he was unaware that his actions were illegal because his lawyers were involved in the process. Trump’s attorneys plan to argue that he “lacked the requisite intent to commit the conduct charged in the indictment.” The judge in the case, however, is not likely to allow Trump to present evidence of his lawyers’ involvement without explicitly invoking the advice-of-counsel defense, and Trump’s lawyers said they don’t plan to formally invoke that defense. Trump faces 34 charges related to allegedly covering up a $130,000 payment made to Stormy Daniels during his 2016 presidential campaign. The trial is set to begin with jury selection on March 25. (NBC News / CNN / USA TODAY)
5/ A bipartisan panel of three North Carolina judges unanimously ruled that a Republican-led effort to restructure the state’s election boards is unconstitutional. The law, passed by the GOP-controlled legislature over Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper’s veto, would have shifted the power to appoint election board members from the governor to the legislature and created boards with an equal number of Democrats and Republicans. The judges found that this infringed on the governor’s constitutional duties and was an unlawful attempt by the legislature to seize power from the executive branch. The ruling leaves the current structure in place, with the governor appointing a majority of members from his own party. Republican legislative leaders are expected to appeal the decision. He's still a dem in a red state, and voted on Dem lines at least some of the time. If we had 52 senators instead of 50 you'd never know he existed, it's only because he was THE deciding vote so often because of the 50-50 split that he's been a pain in the arse.
Someone that votes with the party 40% of the time is still better than someone that votes with the party 0% of the time and gives speakership to the other side.
You'd think he would have leveraged that more to get all the power he wanted for whatever he wanted but mostly he just voted no on things that were important.

I'm not overlooking that. He absolutely sucked.
But literally any republican in his seat would have been worse, purely because that'd split it 51-49, and McConnel would have been in charge of things even going to a vote. Nothing would have gotten done in that first 2 years, and we'd probably still be sitting on a SC appointment.
Heck, Dems were only hitting 50 in the first place because the two independents caucused with them.
-
But that’s the thing though little of what democrats in the senate and what Biden wanted got done if at all because of what Manchin did.
Like I get on one hand your main point but just because Manchin kept Republicans from retaining control of the senate means very little based upon his self serving voting behavior which more or less served nearly the same end as if a Republican had been in his seat. Dude wasn’t even trying to hide his willingness to sabotage the party making him just as bad any hypothetical Republican.
In short bad is still bad.

Just when I couldn’t think politics could get any dumber Republicans as usual put the fork in the proverbial socket.

It’s only genocide when the victims are white god fearing Christians or and maybe Catholics and Jews. When you’re anyone else it’s just way things are supposed to be.
Ghoulishess astounds me just as much as the lack of willingness of people who should be calling this out to not bother.

Most of the thirty-ish no votes seem to have been from the Democratic members of the state House and, from what I understand, the anti-LGBT effects aren't from that particular bill but from language in a pre-existing one.

The clear response to this is dig up a dozen of laws of the same period that would make the current state economic impossible and make state supreme court either also enforce those or back out of the previous decision.

Day 1196: "Serious questions."
1/ Senior State Department officials warned that they don’t have “credible or reliable” assurances that Israel is using U.S.-provided weapons in accordance with international law. Under a National Security Memorandum that Biden issued in February, Secretary of State Antony Blinken must determine whether Israel is using U.S. weapons “in a manner consistent with all applicable international and domestic law and policy, including international humanitarian law and international human rights law.” Blinken must tell Congress by May 8 whether he has certified the assurances to be credible and reliable. Four bureaus – Democracy, Human Rights and Labor; Population, Refugees and Migration; Global Criminal Justice; and International Organization Affairs – raised “serious concern over non-compliance” with international humanitarian law during the war. Their assessment cited eight examples of Israeli military actions that raise “serious questions” about potential violations of international humanitarian law, such as repeatedly striking protected sites and civilian infrastructure, “unconscionably high levels of civilian harm to military advantage,” and “killing humanitarian workers and journalists at an unprecedented rate.” The assessment also cited 11 instances of Israeli military actions that “arbitrarily restrict humanitarian aid,” including rejecting aid trucks due to a single “dual-use” item, “artificial” limitations on inspections, and repeated attacks on humanitarian sites that should be protected. Meanwhile, a coalition of lawyers called on Biden to cut off military aid to Israel, arguing that its actions in Gaza violate U.S. law, including the Arms Export Control Act and Leahy Laws, as well as international humanitarian law prohibiting disproportionate attacks on civilian populations. (Reuters / CNN)
2/ Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu asked Biden to help stop the International Criminal Court from issuing arrest warrants for senior Israeli officials – including himself. The ICC launched an investigation three years ago into possible war crimes by both Israel and Palestinian militants dating back to the 2014 Israel-Hamas war. Israeli officials reportedly believe that the ICC is preparing to issue warrants for senior government officials, include Netanyahu, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, and Israel Defense Forces Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi. (Axios / New York Times / NBC News / Bloomberg)
U.S. determined that five Israeli security units committed human rights violations before outbreak of Gaza war. 3/ Israel presented a new hostage deal proposal to Hamas in exchange for a “sustained” 40-day ceasefire in Gaza. The current deal would see 33 hostages freed in the first stage in exchange for a temporary ceasefire and the release of “potentially thousands” of Palestinians in Israel. For months, Israel had demanded that Hamas release a group of at least 40 hostages made up of women, children, the elderly, and those with serious medical conditions in order to secure a ceasefire. Hamas, however, reportedly doesn’t have 40 living hostages who fit that criteria. Israeli officials believe there are about 130 hostages remaining in Gaza, and at least 30 of those have died in captivity. Secretary of State Antony Blinken urged Hamas to accept what he said was an “extraordinarily generous” proposal for a ceasefire and hostage release, and that Hamas alone stood in the way of a deal. If no deal is made, Israel is expected to launch a ground invasion into the southern Gaza city of Rafah, where more than 1 million displaced Palestinians are sheltering. 4/ A federal appeals court ruled that state healthcare plans must cover gender-affirming surgeries. State officials in West Virginia and North Carolina had argued that their policies were based on “legitimate government interests,” such as cost concerns, rather than bias. The court, however, ruled that the denial of some health care services via government-sponsored insurance for transgender people was discriminatory. (Associated Press / Washington Post / Axios)
5/ Trump’s allies are reportedly working on proposals to reduce the Federal Reserve’s independence if Trump is re-elected, including letting the president influence interest rate decisions. Under the plan, the Fed chair would be required to seek Trump’s review on interest rate policy, negotiate with the committee on the president’s behalf to steer policy, and to require candidates for Fed chair to agree to privately consult informally with Trump on the central bank’s decisions. The 10-page document also suggests that Trump would have the authority to oust Jerome Powell as Fed chair before his four-year term ends in 2026. (Wall Street Journal)

6/ The Supreme Court rejected former Trump adviser Peter Navarro’s request to be released from prison while he appeals his contempt of Congress conviction. Navarro is serving a four-month sentence for defying a congressional subpoena from the Jan. 6 committee investigating the attack on the Capitol. (CBS News / USA Today / CNN)

It really drives me mad that people can describe the COVID times as "good" or even better than now. It was literally a few years ago, and during Trump's term. It's infuriating.
-
@onemoment Biden’s term wasn’t any better, dude. The one who first advocated for people to return to work and get the Covid vaccine was Trump, believe it or not. He even received the shot, while some of his supporters claimed he betrayed America. Just wait until they find out that the founding fathers also received the vaccine. While we may be moving past the Covid era, billions of people have died due to stupidity and other malicious reasons, which is too much for a forum post to cover. The only thing I want to see is a new president who doesn’t take bribe money or allocate funds to wars instead of helping humanity by ending world hunger and homelessness, providing the homeless with free housing and relieving them of the burden of bills. Unfortunately, we can’t have that in the current timeline.
