Alright, I officially love this game. Catching and battling Pokemon is so addicting that I frequently find myself getting distracted from the main quests.
Oh, and I got my Hisuian Typhlosion. So cool.

They are called Pokémon, as in Pocket Monsters, so the shrinking doesn't bother me at all.
And then you have Joltik, who apparently is small enough to fit on your pocket in default size.
But it still safer in the pokeball.
Got the 5th mount finally. Also bug shinies(got 3 of them now) seems to love me while the shinies I want(just give me a shiny eevee) are nowhere to be found.
Finally making some headway into the game, and already I'm getting confused.
1. Is there a place where they list the missions you get from random people? I'm forgetting them already.
2. I'm aiming for a Wyrdeer, but looking at Serebii I cannot figure out how to teach it moves.
3. Is this seriously how small the Hisui pokedex is?

Open the map (minus button) and press Y.

If you're trying to change a Pokemon's moveset, open the Menu (up on D-pad), select the Pokemon (may have or to R/L cycle to the correct page) and select Change Moves. If you're looking to obtain a Wyrdeer for battling/Pokedex:
! Have a Stantler use Psyshield Bash Agile Style 20 times

! According to my research, there should be somewhere in the ball park of 242 Pokemon for the complete Hisui dex. Not a huge amount, considering the total roster, but still sizeable IMO considering this is a new experimental game.

So even if it's evolved you can learn moves from previous levels without needing to go to a special guy?

Yep. This game has some great QoL improvements. You can always access old moves from the main menu and re-add them to a Pokemon's moveset. Also, as far as I know, there's no downside to evolving Pokemon anymore, not even stone evolutions, since they'll always learn all moves across all forms (though they may still learn moves sooner in their unevolved forms).
Nice. I also love that your pokemon don't automatically evolve, but wait for you to hit the evolve button. Very handy.
And did I mention that the evolutions in this game are seriously intense?! If that's what a Beautifly looks like during evolution I can't wait for Typhlosion.
I'm close to finishing my team all shinys so far: Garchomp, Umbreon, Ursaluna and Zoroark. Not sure what to fill the two last spots with also mostly chose shinies cause I liked their color for those but there is def mons out there that I prefer normal. Garchomp I might replace but it feels strong.
Note to self: Never try to fight/catch a level 40 Alpha Rapidash.
Main game finished. Now for the post-game and Pokedex completion.
Gotta say, the battle system really aggravated me for a good portion of this run. Apparently the rules are the opposing pokemon always attacks first, no matter how fast or over-leveled your own Pokemon are, and can attack you two, maybe three times in a row. Oh yeah, and trainers can attack you with three Pokemon at once, but you can't do the same. I mean, it's nice that it's challenging, I guess, but a battle system should be challenging in a way that feels fair. Definitely gonna need some tweaking if they continue this format in future games.

If you set up agile style,. you can break the game pretty easily. But yeah, its the only time where i felt like they should have kept an aspect of previous games in.
Whilst exploring all I can think is: "Are there any trainers to fight around here?"
Oh cool, they don’t automatically evolve your Pokemon, so I can keep my Mime Jr!!!
He’s so much cuter than mr mime
I really hope gamefreak builds on arceus but honestly next title probably won't already being too far in production.
But man Arceus is literally the easiest title to just improve upon because of how many areas are so lackluster. Literally if they leave everything as is and just bring back the traditional combat while keeping some of the streamlining that alone would already be a massive improvement.
It's sad how little faith I have in gamefreak to even only do that though. Guess I'll ride out the fun wave of Arceus and come back in 3-5 years to the title that is hopefully the improvement I want.
I've just completed the dex yesterday and did the final final challenge.
! This is after battling Volo, in case you're not sure.
! >! That Arceus battle felt amazing! If GameFreak decides to use anything in their mainline games, besides the QoL stuff, I hope they bring back these boss battles against Legendary Pokemon.
Makes them feel so much more imposing than just throwing balls at them.
I'm gonna take my time leisurely getting all the dex entries to level 10 now. What a splendid game.
Wyrdeer riding was a much needed thing in this landscape. (do we ever get to fly?)
I also wonder if there will be any other towns to visit.
Whilst exploring all I can think is: "Are there any trainers to fight around here?"
Really sets the mood: the fact that for the first time in a mainline entry trainers are almost absent while the monsters themeselves get all the focus.
Speaking of which, the anniversary is just around the corner. Will they announce Gen 9?
When there are no trainers making a team doesn't have the same weight as it used to. If all I'm fighting is wild pokemon then I feel like I only need 2 or 3 to keep me covered.
I'm not trying to say this game sucks. It's just very much it's own thing and I'm still in the middle of processing the differences. So far my only true complaint is that the backgrounds are a little lacking and the colors are a little dull. I think that's them trying to make the game feel like classical Japanese art, but Okami can show them how to do that better.
Agree on the art department, they tried to cover their lack of experience and the console limitations with an specific art direction, but it wasn’t pretty enough to do that.
Id hope that the reception for arceus makes them take pause with the rest of the years plans, because if gen 9 is for this year, I’m not sure it would have fully assimilated what they did right for this game.
But they didn’t get here by missing a release window, so I dunno.
I had something of a team going on in the second half of the main game, but now that I'm in the post game and trying to fill the my Pokedex, they've all been shelved. The only one I keep consistently in my party now is Typhlosion.
I hate the experience in this game. For people like me, hating the exp. all is a given, but something I haven't seen talked about is the general experience allocation. Basically, if you have a pokemon sweep 5 of an opponent's mons, who then dies to their sixth, they get no experience at all. It's never been this way and it sucks. Not having to see the experience gains after every faint is nice, but i feel it could be handled better by a lot.

Sounds like typical PKMN “The Computer Is A Cheating Bastard” with some “Fake Difficulty” thrown in.
Post-game spoilers:
! The Volo/Giratina fight. Umm…holy shit. Starting to wish I had built up a dedicated Pokemon team.
! Granted, I wasn't really going all out with the fight (no Max Potions or Max Revives and one dud Pokemon on my team), but still, lost twice in a row to them.
! Man the volo fight was fun. Frustrating but fun, especially if you want to stick to your original team and favorites. I lost twice and Giratina actually felt like a legendary, especially with that two forms and a broken move.
Going for that Sylveon. Which for right now means a lot of hitting trees for berries. Really all my 'mons need leveling up.
I enjoyed the game, though it would have been a better experience without all of the pop-in.
! My teams are usually pretty balanced, so I didn't lose, but I did have a couple mons fainted. I was around his level.
