So basically Yamato and Ace smacked each other good and then had a date under the moonlight…

Their offspring would´ve been something else, rivaling Luffy and Boa´s kid. Damn, what a shame.
But yeah, Ace had to die or else Luffy would have never become Pirate King.

This was my thought exactly when I first saw what ace was capable off and his relation with Luffy in Arabasta, I thought to my self, how the fuck is Luffy going to be stronger than that? as they'd both grow stronger as time goes on, with Ace having a head start.. too bad he went under WB, otherwise he'd have made it to the top.

Well it was always inevitable that we would see Ace's lasting influence on the New World. More so than Whitebeard's because Luffy(and we the audience) are more attached to Ace.

Its kind of weird to expect the story to just say, "yeah, this important guy, brother to our protagonist, son of the pirate king died, lets forget him and move on"

Initially I thought that too, but that whole operation was being handled by Doflamingo. Kaido was hands off on it. They had Vergo working on it through the Marines, which seemed to be a pretty solid system until Luffy and Smoker started getting in the way. Plus, there weren't any Wano kids among the experiments we saw there, save for Momo and his special circumstances. So yeah, that guess doesn't quite line up.

Oh, wow, after watching that Morj video, I just realized that Luffy has a tonne in common with Kaidou in terms of reputation.

For all intents and purposes, in a one-on-one fight, you can always bet on Luffy to win. At least, that is what every single Straw Hat, and by extension the audience, believes.

Two, just like Kaidou, Luffy has tasted defeat at the hands of other pirates multiple times, he has been caught by the enemy almost everytime(Wano included), he has also been tortured several times.

Third, Luffy, just like Kaidou, has escaped certain death on several occasions. The most prominent being his survival in Loguetown.

Lastly, Luffy has proved his strength in Land, best encompassed by his fight with Crocodile, Sea, His fight with Hody, and air, his fight with Enel.

When Luffy beats Kaidou, who would dare say that he truly isn't, "The strongest man alive".

and that is what will solidify him as worthy in the eyes of the other supernova.

Another parallel to Kaidou. Kaidou has made former captains like the Flying Six acknowledge his strength and work to make him the King.

Similarly, Luffy will do the same with Kidd, Law, Apoo, Hawkins and Drake. Further cementing him as the Fifth Emperor of the sea.

I'm looking forward to the look on the Five Elders' faces when they hear that not only did Luffy beat Kaidou while Big Mom was also there, but that the impenetrable and usually impartial Wano Kuni that's been a common denominator between everything they try to keep secret is now part of Luffy's territory.

Regarding the Five Elders, they will be especially interested in the fact that Luffy and Robin decoded another Road Poneglyph (assuming they are at least aware of the fact that when Luffy unleashed in Totto Land, he also acquired the information on Big Mom's Road Poneglyph). I don't believe the World Government are aware of the Road Poneglyph in Zou but they could be. Regardless, once the Five Elders realise that the Straw Hat Pirates and Robin are close to locating Laugh Tale and uncovering the secrets they wish buried in the darkness of the past, they will be desperate to stop them. Thus forcing their hand and that of Im's.

With the Road Poneglyph in Wano Kuni, I suppose it means it is located within the tree central to the Flower Capital similar to where the Road Poneglyph in Zou was kept. Well that is what Big Mom's comment and Kaido's response hinted at to me though.

Mainly here for Koido. The Ace inclusion was nice, more nice that it ended quickly.
The final 2 pages are amazing, yeah, and quite a big twist. Less than 1% got Kaido's fruit right.
There were a few people. I was never lucky enough to see one of their posts, but a few people did get Kaido's fruit right.
As usual it was right in front of our faces with the Koi scales on his chest (misdirection) and the Land, SEA, and air thing, and the Wano intro being koi going up a waterfall.

The final 2 pages are a huge boost to this chapter. I would seriously give it like a 7/10 otherwise.
With the final 2 pages, and Oda pulling off an unpredictable fruit for Kaido and having Kaido just chilling fully recovered with Big Mom, I'll go ahead and give it a 9/10.

This also opens up Dragon having a literal dragon fruit which is awesome.

Theory One:

Masked Deuce will be promoted from a novel character to a manga character and will show up in chapter 1,000 along with Scopper. Masked Deuce will represent the Spade Pirates promise to Tama and the people of Wano that was made three years ago when Ace (as the Captain of the Spade Pirates) promised to return stronger and save them. Masked Deuce presence will also continue the card theme of the Wano arc story with characters such as Joker, Ace, King, Queen, Jack and the Numbers.

In the conclusion of the arc, Chopper, Law, Marco and Masked Deuce will work together to create a cure for the SMILE side effects.

Theory Two:

The character that appeared in the chapter 631 cover page wearing a kasa (hat) will appear again in chapter 1,000. Be that character Masked Deuce, Sukiyaki, the Kozuki Aide, one of the Roger Pirates, a new character.

@Syphin I like both of those theories a lot. We've been waiting for that kasa person and considering the similarities to the akazaya 9 it makes sense that they'd appear in Wano. As for Masked Deuce, I think it would definitely be a missed opportunity if none of Ace's original crew showed up on Wano. I'm not sure what role they would take, but it would be awesome seeing them join the fleet and help Luffy.

You're stronger than me. I typically wait for the official release on Sunday but will probably read on Friday! I'm too wary of being spoiled and the official release won't be for another 2 weeks which will make it more likely.

One thing convenient about Kaido moving the island is that the alliance sunked most of their ships before the raid. So the after party planned by Luffy can be started almost immediately after their victory (a festival already underway). Just have to make sure the island falls in the sea next to the main island

Well that's a pretty solid meeting between Yams and Ace. Would've kinda like to see how she was like before they rolled up on the island but I suppose the anime will take care of that. And so it's confirmed that Yams is a girl just wanting to be Oden. Okay, wanna see how that conversation with Kadio went through if he respected Yamato's wishes to be a male.
Eh…I can kinda see Whitebeard's point about reframing from attacking Kaido at the time, these guys aren't known for subtlety when they start brawling even if they move the fight away from the capital and Kadio was shown to kinda affect areas with that breath weapon. Add that against Earthquake powers....yeah. Still, none of them thought to least lure the Animal Kingdom crew somewhere else that wasn't near Wano. There had to have been a lot of barren islands to fight on.
The usual "Villain live in the now, too arrogant to see the possible danger to their power" motifs concerning King and Queen, Ho-hum. With Brook and Robin heading upward, yeah sensing some team-ups coming. Either that or they'll fight Hawkins. He's the only "Animal Kingdom" pirate not accounted for so far.
I pointed out in the spoilers, but the fact that Kaido had an imagine spot of dropping Onigashima on the Flower Capital is pretty much a defeat flag to me. We know it's not gonna happen or something gonna go awry but I just find that amusing. Though again that just establishes yet another race against the clock fight
Uh so Kadio's dragon form is a....fish. Alright, and yes I read the allusion to the old Japanese tale of the koi swimming up a waterfall (thank you Suede for explaining that in your Pokemon reviews), which still doesn't make it any weirder. Though considering Big Mom's words, I wonder exactly how big his strength is if that's going off that tale. You know, essentially the "Bane Facade", looks tough but only because a power is making him that way. Would honestly be pretty ironic, would explain why he's always trying to kill himself too. Maybe it just makes things boring for him.

Slright setup, informative but really that's all it is. Ace came to the island and made promises that he couldn't keep. Honestly makes his hot-headedness kinda dumb in hindsight if he didn't think of that while going after Blackbeard but eh. I am wondering if Kaido was trying to intrude on the execution as revenge on Ace if Shanks had to intercept him. Soooo many questions, but were on the eve of a milestone so let pocket it for now and enjoy the celebration as we close out the year.

Gotta say this chapter was pretty cool. The flashback with Yamato and Ace gives the former even higher chances to be the final crewmate of the Straw Hats, even though I prefer Carrot personally.

And yeah, Whitebeard, I get his reasoning all too clear. Oden died a good time ago, so there is no real point to go and wage a war of revenge against Kaido. And of course, Ace is too "hot-headed" and had to be smacked down a bit by Pops.

Biggest surprise though, was Kaido's DF. A unknown Mythical type Fish Fish Fruit, and the first of its kind to be revealed. At first, seeing as Kaido can turn into a dragon, one would think the Fish class wouldn't fit a dragon, but seeing this is a eastern dragon, and eastern dragons have fish scales and are more associated with water, like how fishes are, it makes perfect sense. Even more so because its said that Chinese Dragons are seen as the head of the Fish clan, and rule over all aquatic creatures.

Makes me wonder what the fruit's full name could be. I got some options below:

1. Uo Uo no Mi - Model: Dragon
2. Uo Uo no Mi - Model: Long (Long is another name for Chinese Dragons to make them distinct)
3. Uo Uo no Mi - Model: Seiryu/Azure Dragon
4. Uo Uo no Mi - Model: Ryujin
5. Uo Uo no Mi - Model: Mizuchi

Also, seeing as this fruit is very likely based or inspired by the myth of a carp climbing a waterfall and ascending into a dragon once it reaches the top, I could imagine that once the fruit gets eaten, despite being a mythical dragon model, the user actually turns into a carp or koi at first and needs to train to unlock its true form of a chinese dragon before the user fully gains the ability to go straight to dragon, fully referencing the chinese myth.

Or, simply said, the user just gets the power to turn into a dragon without special requirements. I could also imagine this fruit to be the only type that allows the user swim by some degree. It could work in the following that the user could maybe only swim when going into their full Zoan or Hybrid Zoan form before diving into the water.

Actually the title "The Sake I Brewed to Drink with You" is based on Japanese literature/waka called Manyoushu (万葉集) compiled about 1200 years ago.

It goes, "I wonder if I'll have to drink this sake alone although I brewed it to drink with you..", probably referring to the sad fact that Yamato will never drink sake with Ace again..:sad:

Nope. Luffy and Momo will tag team the final hit.

Luffy is going to do the bulk of the work, but others are going to soften Kaidou up and add modifiers so that we don't just enter the final stretch with Luffy as teh defacto strongest. Same reason Zoro doesn't fight Mihawk right now. There's gotta be SOMETHING for the Blackbeards to live up to.

So Luffy is going to beat Kaidou, and for the readers we'll know it's mostly him… but with an asterisk. Same way Luffy is the one that decisively beat Doflamingo... but Law did stab him with that knife that ruptured his insides first... but Luffy was weakened from other fights.

Or how Luffy beats Moria.. but mostly because Moria lost his cool and went berserker rather than just waiting another 2 minutes for the sun to rise. Or how Luffy beat Wapol... but Wapol never got to his armamaent and his full power. Or how Luffy beat Enel, but he needed Nami's help to reach him. Or how he beat Arlong, but he spent half that fight trapped in concrete and needed a lot of help.

There's always conditions. Luffy wins the fight mostly on his own... but he has help before he gets there.

I would assume Momonosuke would use his Devil Fruit abilities to save Wano Kuni by stopping Onigashima from crashing onto the Flower Capital.

Momonosuke pretty much has the same abilities as Kaido but the extent to which Momonosuke can use them is much less (due to age and training). It all comes to down to whether Oda wants to explore those abilities now or during the final war.

Cue Momonosuke bringing a whole Island along to the final war and proclaiming - "It's over World Government. I have the high ground!"

Good thing Yamato is there with Momonosuke because if Momonosuke does reveal to Yamato that he has a "Dragon" Devil fruit that can also create clouds, Yamato may be able to guide Momonosuke along in how to willfully access the abilities that can save the people of Wano Kuni.

You can do it Momonosuke!

As for why Vegapunk wanted to recreate the Fish/Dragon Fruit Kaido has, it could likely be a result of the Tenryuubito requesting it or Vegapunk being fascinated by Dragons/Kaido or both.

I'm really looking forward to finding out more about Yamato's and Kaido's relationship and seeing them interact with each other.
The explanation for Whitebeard's non-involvement in Wano makes perfect sense to me and I'm glad it was addressed. I would have liked to see his actual reaction to finding out about Oden's death though.
I'm also looking forward to Shanks' perspective on the whole matter and seeing how exactly his encounter with Kaido before the paramount war went down.

There's a lot of great Yamato fanart.

Honestly, I think a lot of fans get him better than Oda. I don't know if that's just because it's fresh to see a character through the art style of a different artist, but I feel like this is much more consistent with Yamato than other characters. Not only he loses the Nami face, but fans put more personality and intensity into his facial expressions.

There's no Jump this week, nothing changed. The next one is January 3.

However, the first chapter of the year usually leaks much earlier than normal, so don't be surprised if the chapter is out this weekend.
