Now Marguerite, never ranked once before, appears 1st in both NA and Africa at the same time. It’s really weird, there’s either a concerted effort from some forum or fanbase site to boost minor characters together, or some people abusing the system.
ONE PIECE 7TH Popularity Poll!!
-
-
some Kiku, Margareth, Magellan and Queen love this morning! good shit.
-
Alvida first in Japan.
I guess that's the troll-Yamato surrogate?
-
Alvida is secretly the first best girl in One Piece. Japan certainly is a country of culture :ninja:.
-
Alvida, T-Baguaing people before it was cool.
-
Cindry 1st and Carrot 2nd (Usopp's friend, not the bunny girl) in North America.
Such wild votes ! I swear, this contest is just like the One Piece : the best part is the journey -
Alvida is Kaido, Big Mom and Hancock in one package.
-
Talking about Alvida, I wish we had an opportunity to see more of Team Buggy in action in the story. Specially if it were revealed that Mr. 3, Cabaji and Alvida actually got stronger in these two years.
Edit: Kuina is now 1st in Europe. She also appeared in NA. I swear, there's some combined voting going on.
Also, Sterry is 1st in Japan.
-
Of course there's combined vote. Probably from discord groups, bigger forums and stuff like that.
My only doubt is what's the algorythm they're using to select the top 3.
-
Who's staying the saturday night in Japan voting for Zeus, Brulee and Sterry to reach the Top 3?
-
Ah, these people have access to all the base images from color spreads and stuff. I want them!
Look at Jinbe placing first in Oceania, the pic is from the famous Warlord spread where his lower half is covered:
!
-
you can get most of them here: http://67.205.178.245:8075/opdatabase/characters
-
Funkfreed is 1st in Europe and Bourbon Jr. in LatAm&Caribbean:blink:
-
I kinda forgot if Rock the Yeti Cool brother was still alive or dead. Whatever happened to him?
-
Hoe is #1 in NA.
-
Depending on how it's calculated, it doesn't necessary need a lot of people to change the ranks.
Hypothetically if it's a percentage based off a rounded-up votes-per-day average, then a character with a 1-vote-per-day average would just happen to get 2 or 3 votes which the system would perceive as a +100% or +200%, propelling them to the top.
Honestly, this makes teh most sense, beyond conspracy theories of cheating.
Any character that gets zero or one votes one hour, then suddenly gets several, is going to have a huge percentage. There's a big difference on going from 0 to 4 votes, compared to going from 146 to 150 votes. One is a more significant fluctuation than the other… and makes a lot of sense that it could apply, especially at odds hours where most people are sleeping.
Depends on how its actually tabulating "change from previous results."
-
This video was just suggested to me by Youtube.
I guess it does confirm that some of these recent appearences are just memes. It would be interesting if, when the voting is over, the site would show us the timeline. So we could see which characters where more consistent and which characters were the internet playing around.

Oda does not work in layered files. He does layouts layered, but the final thing is always one consistent inked drawing… or else all the merch being done with that Wano group shot would probably just take Tama out.
So that's assistants going in and doing touch ups, same as they did with the data cards. You can tell on the Jinbe one how the line quality differs on the bottom half, that the shading highlights disappear, and the diamonds are all a lot more flat.
It's certainly good enough at a glance, but there is no "base image" file where Oda did complex shots in layers and compiled them. That was done retroactively.

Yeah, but then you'd have to take in account why Asia/Japan is always consistent with the M3/Law quartet.
If Luffy rules the first spot for 8 consecutive hours, does this means he's increasingly getting votes at every hour?
-
If the top 3 showed a increase by percentage (like +200% from last hour), then Luffy, Zoro and Sanji would hardly ever rank here, especially not so consistently, since the more popular a character is then he increases and falls by smaller margins. It would also be almost impossible to rank first consecutive times because it would mean that the character was getting exponentially more votes despite already being first place.
I rule out this option, honestly.
It's more likely that either:
a) the site shows the normal top 3, meaning the characters who got the most votes regardless of any other information from previous hours. Troll characters shows up because of organized fandoms and maybe VPN/cookies abuse.
b) the site shows the top 3 based on the "delta" of votes, meaning the subtraction of the total votes of the last hour minus the total votes to hour bofore… which is slightly different from percentages. For example, if Zoro gets 100k votes and then 120k, that's an increse of 20k (the delta), which may be enough to get second place, but lose to a character who got a delta of 30k (by a sudden spike in which he got a total of 35k votes in an hour after getting only 5k). Note that Zoro incresead only 20% and the other character increased 600%, but we're comparing the deltas, not the percentages.
However, I also have reasons to suspect that "b" is not true also, as getting multiple first places in a row would still be quite rare and difficult. Even topping every hour would be a challenge because you can receive a bunch of votes but get less than the previous hour (say, Zoro get 200k votes and then 190k votes).
I guess it's "a".
-
Yeah. People are definitely just memeing at this rate lmao. Funkfreed just got 1st in two different regions in the same day.
-
There's some interesting data when you analize the rankings per character in each region.
For instance, over 70% of Carrot's rankings come from Latin America. Plus, she got no rankings at all from Asia, Japan and Middle East, the former two regions being most likely the ones with most voters. I don't think she will get very high in the final result.
Yamato is also interesting, He/she's clearly favored in most regions (Oceania, North America, Latin America, Europe and Africa). But she got no rankings at all in Japan, and small showings in Asia and Middle East. While I think he has a chance to get in the Top 20, he may not get as high as some expect.
Jinbe and Brook are also not ranked at all in Japan and Asia.
Robin actually got more rankings in Japan than Nami, which is weird, since Nami was more popular in the latest polls. However, Nami fares better in Asia, which may explain her greater popularity? I dunno.
Some of the favorites from latest polls, like Crocodile and Doflamingo, are not getting rankings in Japan and Asia.
I feel like watching the rankings from Asia and Japan will be the key to more or less predict the Top 20.
-
I kinda forgot if Rock the Yeti Cool brother was still alive or dead. Whatever happened to him?
I would guess Smoker's unit found them after they lost and arrested them.

While all of this is relevant data, it's far from the bigger picture.
Even we consider that Japan and Asia are the most relevant regions and focus on them, their top 3 still says very little of what's going on in general. There are "invisible" characters who can be possibly getting a lot of votes on a consistent basis. For example, let's compare Nami and Robin. We know that Robin got more top 3 rankings than Nami in Japan up until now, but it's still possible that Nami is doing better than Robin in Japan as long as Nami is getting more votes in the hours that neither are ranking. This no wild hypothesis, but a very reasonable possibility. We're in the dark.
Of course we can guess that characters who are getting lots of top positions in Japan and Asia will rank well at the end… but it doesn't help that both are the most boring regions right now and it's impossible to know anything below their top 4.
The other regions are not useless data either. Not only they will amass a large quantity of votes themselves, but I don't believe there are great discrepancies in popularity between regions, so looking at what happens in one of them is an indicator of what's going on in all of them (except for the troll rankings), especially characters who are very recurring and do well in multiple regions. For example, Yamato is doing so well that it's obvious that he's also doing well in Japan and Asia even if that's not showing in the top 3s right now. Yamato will be close to top 10 at the end, if not in it.
-
Yeah, it is hard to know how specific characters are doing when looking at Japan and Asia because in those regions it is hard to topple the main Straw Hat Pirates, Ace, Sabo and Law. Those characters are consistent performers in the top 3 in those regions. For all we know, there may be a character that is consistently performing in the major regions in the number 4-10 positions (e.g. Hancock, Vivi, Katakuri).
I don't expect much to change from the previous poll results aside with Yamato placing somewhat high given their strong focus in the manga currently, Katakuri placing higher than before and potentially some of the Akazaya Nine and Tobiroppo placing in the top 50. I am not sure how Japan feels about Kaido but I hope he gets a high ranking as he certainly is a beast of an antagonist.
It will also depend on how the top 3 rankings per hour are determined/calculated.

Well, Yamato got ranked in Japan a few hours ago, and during a busy period too (noon).
-
Iam voting for Doffy and Reiju back and forth, hope they both make the top 25 in the end.
Luffy not winning it would sure break Oda´s heart. -
Ah, these people have access to all the base images from color spreads and stuff. I want them!

Every picture in that website is from the Vivre Card "databook", actually!
Btw, Yamato topping Japan right now.
-
Well, Yamato got ranked in Japan a few hours ago, and during a busy period too (noon).
Oh, great, I was checking it all week and he never got a rank there, and now overnight he got both 1st and 3rd place while I was sleeping.
I guess the japanese were waiting to make me look like a fool, lol. With that, Yamato has now ranked in every region.
-

You certainly made the most out of those high quality pics. The avatar looks awesome with all the red!
The databooks aren't accesible online somewhere, right?
-
Whenever I see Chriors avatar, I suddenly feel the urge to get a needle and pop a balloon, I don't know why…:ninja:
-
So i’ll Be honest. I have my phone, iPad, and computer available so I do use all three devices to vote. In the last hour I voted all three on Cricket just for giggles. Now I’m in NA. Yet I check the status in Europe and guess who I see is #1 over there… coincidence?
-

I only noticed afterwards, but it does look really nice with the red star. I'm rocking DA STYLE here
Not as far as I know. I have the Vivre Cards myself, so I went to specifically check Jinbe's page to confirm what I said.
Whenever I see Chriors avatar, I suddenly feel the urge to get a needle and pop a balloon, I don't know why…:ninja:
You're free to try but this balloon will keep rising to the top of the charts, mate!

Aaaaand Flampe just reached 1st in Japan…

That's deserved in my book

Japan finally appreciating good characters!

@Rouk':
The database missed an hour, so here it is:
Awesome, thanks again.
It was quite a doozy to update from two days ago because there were just…so...many...random...new...characters. We went from 129 to 217 (88 newbies). I feel like either the formula became more sensitive to change or some group is deliberately trying to get as many characters to place at least once as possible. At any rate, here are the new rankings (the two most recent updates not yet included).

Japan finally appreciating good characters!
And just as I say that, Carrot goes first in Japan. That's the spirit!
-
Yeah at 9 pm following Foxy and Flambé doesn’t mean much as who is even voting at that time along with how the ranking works.
-
Are you alright man? Why so salty? Lots of characters getting love, Yamato in particular, nobody is complaining. I actually like Foxy and Flampe and that's why I was giggling for them even before Carrot ranked there. Just enjoying the show.
And yes, it means nothing. In fact, I wrote two posts yesterday about how in the dark we are in general in regards to data.
-
Am I the only one voting for Speed?
-
There's a whole subcommunity of uhh horse uhhh enthusiasts who are voting for Speed actually
-
Big Mom gave us most of the fun after the time skip and isn't getting any love. it hurts.
-
I voted for Speed once, but only because I can't vote for the real best girl.
-
Robin looked pretty great in that coat she stole from that Brownbeard subordinate.
!
Anyway, Bepo needs some love in these rankings. -
I wonder if timing is being calculated for those Top 3s. It feels like the later in a hour you vote, the higher the chances of that character making it in.
Happened with me a few times.
-
I wonder if timing is being calculated for those Top 3s. It feels like the later in a hour you vote, the higher the chances of that character making it in.
Happened with me a few times.
Yeah. The whole hour is not weighted in the rankings.
Sadly, there is a way to manipulate the visual rankings based on when you cast your vote.
"Hot Characters" seem primarily focused on the five minutes before the hour ends. If you wait to cast your vote 5 minutes before the hour ends, it will count towards the "Hot Character" positioning.
You can probably use your phone and different browsers (on the desktop and mobile) to cast several votes in the final few minutes before the hour ends to shift the ranking to include the character you vote for.
The "Hot Characters" ranking is not totally reflective of the exact popularity of a character i.e. Nami may receive 500 votes in the first 45-55 minutes and 2 in the final five and Wapol could receive 10 votes in the final five minutes to place him higher than Nami in the "Hot Characters" ranking.
Anyway, I was hesitant to reveal how I suspected the "Hot Characters" rankings to work due to the potential of manipulation but the cat seems almost out of the bag and voters are probably realising how the weighting in the hour works - hence the rise of new and strange characters in the top 3 "Hot Characters" ranking lately.
-
Yamato is doing really solidly in pretty much every region, so a Top 10 seems inevitable for him.
Yeah. The whole hour is not weighted in the rankings.

In my case, I only needed one vote to find that out. Literally voted in the last seconds.
At the very least, this somewhat confirms low voter turnout in my LA region, since one vote in a five-minute span did that much.
I'm assuming you are responsible for all those Monet rankings? :ninja:

I’ll try it later. If that’s right, then trying to predict results based on the hot characters is pretty much useless.
