The classic 90s manga is finally being fully adapted!
The series is basically Dragonball with swords and magic.
Don't worry about needing to be familiar with the Dragon Quest games, the story barely has anything to do with them and mainly just takes advantage of Akira Toriyama's fantastic monster designs.
If you're a fan of shounen it's well-worth checking out.
Loved the anime as a kid and finally got to read the manga a few years ago. Totally worth a check. It won't bring anything new to experienced shounen fans, but I find it really enjoyable.
So I'm going to finally see Baran properly animated in all his glory? Heck yeah, sign me up for this wild ride.

Does that affect what channels/streaming services can pick it up?
I'm shocked it's getting a dub at all, they've put very little effort into promoting it in the west so far, which is a shame.

Conflicted. Ocean Group is my favorite dubbing group by far, but it sounds like they won't be able to use any of their regular stable without breaking guild rules?
Is this a case where everyone uses fake names despite obviously being Scott McNeil and Brian Drummond anyway, or is it a case where they hire random hobos off the street like Funimation does?

Wow, Hyunckel's idea of how to remind Dai to close his eyes did not age well, did it? Here's hoping they don't have medieval AIDs.
In a weird way I'm glad the hack forced this week's episode to be released on Good Friday.
Popp is the undefeated GOAT of shonen characters. The latest episode is a reminder of that.
I don't think there's a better character development than Popp's and Hadlar's.

It's also easier to empathise with Popp because humans themselves are more likely to be cowardly people who want to do the right thing than a dragon knight like Dai. Also it's all the more moving when someone like him can overcome his weaknesses.

@Greg I think they just ignored it. It's apparently still up on the union website.
The dub's at least 25 episodes in (that many had been released on the BBC app last time I checked) so the decision must've been made a while ago.
Edit: by the way, great job on the manga releases. The colored pages look just like I remember them from the one 90s issue of Jump I own.

I believe they used the Canadian dubbing studio Ocean instead of any of the American studios.
I get the feeling that commenting on that in the positive or negative will only lead to chaos in the future because the world operates in a two-toned system of absolutes now, but that certainly is a thing and I loved Ocean DBZ.
I love Ocean group, they're my favorite dubbing set. Or at least they were 20-25 years ago. Exo-Squad, Beast Wars, Reboot, Dragonball, all the Takehashi series, all the Gundams...
I have no idea how much of the old talent is still there at this point but there were a whole mess of actors that just kept turning up in things that I really liked.
