One Piece Episode 946 Preview
LOL. Toei loves that word. Its used as much as the Kingdom Hearts characters say darkness.
Gonna be watching this bad boy, just waiting on subs and stuff and I'll edit my post. (unless they're out already!)
And oh my LORD, the animation in that preview looks gorgeous.
And woo, they're about to adapt one of my favorite chapters in the whole series period, 949. Let's hope they do it justice, the art is part of what elevated that chapter so much.
I hope there's some anime viewers out there that don't watch the previews. There's some of them that WAY overestimate Luffy's strength, and they're about to eat crow as hard as some people in the manga fandom did on this cliffhanger with Luffy supposedly about to block a Yonkou. This episode was fun and had some nice stretches of clean animation that had springiness and pop to it.
Croc or Enel would never.
Wanna see the "ancient civilization destroyed" thing done really well? FFXIV did a great take on it. The bar's high for One Piece to beat.
This episode was incredibly good outside of a few minor instances.
Man this one really moved far more than I expected. Hisada continues to impress by going as loose as ever and he's even showcasing some incredibly cool background animation! Loved it. Though Queen smashing into the wall of the prison was quite awkward, didn't make much sense how he switched positions. One still frame would've got the job done imo.
Mitchell Gonzales' part was absolutely lovely and bouncy af and his uncorrected art is insanely good.
That one yet unindentified piece of character acting was stupidly good. It felt incredibly alive.
The storyboard was really strong and the direction ranged from good to excellent. Great camera angles, layouts, and in some places lovely usage of color.
The depiction of Ryuou in the anime looks so gorgeous.
Did I tell you that some of those layouts in this episode were fantastically good?
And holy shit next episode seems to look even crazier. Tu Yong-ce is already asserting his dominance as an animation supervisor with some incredibly raw looking thick lineart and fantastic movement. I also see Junwen Tan in there with his yutaponesque impact frames and cool effects work. I cannot wait.
I've been waiting for this episode forever. Big Mom turning Queen into her bitch is when this arc got good for me, she's so great lol. I love how irrelevant Luffy suddenly looks watching her go to town like that. Was done a good amount of justice too despite the slowmo pacing diluting it somewhat.
The content covered saved this episode, but the Queen / Big Mom parts were underwhelming. The manga panels did a much better job transporting the force behind the whole clash.
Still worth watching, if only due to her voice actress.

I've been waiting for ages to see Big Mom give Queen such an epic beat down. Her physical strength is insane, from holding up the full weight of Queen ( regular Brachiosauruses were like 12 meters in height and of course
Queen is several times that size, and weighed like 50-70 tons in weight, he must be even heavier) and then swinging him around like that.
It's easily the most impressive feat of strength we've seen in the show…

Yeah, big improvement over last week, especially in the second half. Hearing Big Mom demanding oshiruko over and over and over again got more than a little tiring, but there was more than enough spectacle to make up for it. They took some shortcuts with Queen's Brachiosaur form (check out that tweening neck!) but I'm willing to forgive it because it's probably a nightmare to animate and it was drawn pretty well. Getting some rough, sketchy, raw Hisada artwork towards the end (including that curious shot where Luffy's a black-and-white sketch with possibly CG (?) Haki energy) was pretty interesting. It wasn't something I'd ever expect from him going by his work over the past twenty-one years. The next episode is going to be super-interesting, and looks super-cool, as it'll be Yong-ce Tu's debut as an animation director!
Oh, and I got a good laugh out of hearing the Super Saiyan sound effect when Luffy was about to break the collars. Toei and their Dragon Ball Z SFX reuse.
