First pack will contain 61 episodes from East Blue arc, will be on sale next 22nd January 2021 for 18,000 Yen

The distributor for One Piece home video releases in Japan, Avex Group, lists the ONE PIECE Eternal Log “EAST BLUE” with following specs: 16:9 digitally remastered edition, 720x480i.

The remastering job looks pretty iffy too.

Wow. SD on Blu-ray. 61 episodes on two discs. Not even lossless sound. And it's cropped, so it's presumably a downscale of the upscaled "remaster"? It's like they picked the most disappointing version of "episodes 1-61 on Blu-ray" they could think of. At least it's AVC and not MPEG 2.
I guess now we get to experience the same kind of pain that the Dragon Ball Z fandom has been experiencing since time in memorium.
But as a silver lining, if they continue to release Eternal Logs in batches of sixty it shouldn't take too long for them to hit the post-Skypiea episodes which are natively HD and have never been released on Blu-ray before (correct me if I'm wrong, but I think around Punk Hazard was when One Piece first started getting Blu-ray releases?).
When you want to stop pirating but the awful releases wont let you (at least for the first 200 episodes)
The first 52 episodes are ass in both the original release and the remaster (pay close attention to the washed colors and blurred outlines). The remastered version begins to look much better from 53 onward, however if they remastered episodes 53 to 206 in the original fullscreen format it would have been much better than the original episodes, but because they cropped it to widescreen they look terrible. Shame.

Saying that, this release is a waste of money. From episode 207 onward it might be worth looking into but afaik there's nothing notably different to the Netflix or Funi streams.

I don't even think the comparison you've posted does justice to how much worse 1-52 look. Look at Usopp's face in this shot (taken from Funi's DVD), episode 52's line art is covered with rainbows and dot crawl. The remaster at least filtered this out from static artwork, but they're still there on movement. Incidently, Odex's masters had these issues until at least Chopper's introduction.

Interesting discovery. The Blu-Ray single releases in Japan contains bonus footage called 'ONE PIECE THE WORLD NAVIGATION'. These have been included from Whole Cake Island Blu-Rays (starting with Syrup Village) to Wano (currently towards the end of Little Garden). They are short 4 minutes summaries of past events.
It turns out Toei have had high resolution rendered videos for the first 206 episodes for a long while. These bonus features use the same video footage seen in the streams and upcoming Eternal Logs…. UNCROPPED!

So yeah this is the best 'official' footage of One Piece (however Episode 1 to 52 will also look terrible no matter what master). Fans are working on an AI generated upscale of 1 to 206 using the R2J DVD singles that will look even better.
The upcoming Eternal Logs are listed as 720i, rather than 1080p…. According to the YouTube and Twitter reactions the Japanese fans seem to be all over these upcoming sets....
It's good to know that an OAR upscale exists to be used somewhere down the line. Those screencaps look pretty nice, even if they're not perfect (in pic 1 the stars and Luffy's line art look 'wobbly', Robin's soft focus effect seems to confuse the software and there's haloing/blurriness in places).
Once they get to 207, I wonder if they'll increase the disc count of simply keep using SD-BD with high episode counts. I would actually believe either one happening, as silly as that seems.

Why is the Davy Back Fight arc perpetually cursed.
Also looking at when they announced this... Is that also the last one? Are they literally stopping the BD release as soon as they get to actual HD content?!

Toei Avex logic: Hold fullscreen HD masters for episodes 1 to 206 (as evident in the Zou to Wano bonus features) but decided to crop and downscale for every release under as a 'remaster'.

I guess the U.S., Australia, and the U.K. were lucky to get Episodes 207 - 228 in the widescreen format on home video. Since other countries got the widescreen episodes further down the line.

Well at least they are continuing… But given what we've seen so far I still expect them to be dumb and keep doing them in SD.
The Avex website lists the video as 480i (although it also says "digitally remastered" so that might be copied from the last set) and Rakuten lists it as only two discs. I was expecting it to be SD anyway, as they surely want the disc count (and perceived value) to remain consistent if the price point remains the same. Not to mention that a 1080p encode would almost certainly look better than a player-upscaled SD one, even when the original footage is only 480p. They're been compromising the quality from the start.
Have there been any physical releases for pre-Punk Hazard episodes released in HD quality anywhere worldwide? This was the obvious opportunity and they messed it up.
Yikes.. This isn't good. I'm happy that we got for the U.S. release for Water 7, Enies Lobby, and Ice Hunters arc now. In Japan, the only Pre Punk Hazard arc episodes that got bluray releases were the Strong World fillers (Episode 426 - 429) and Z's Ambition (Episodes 575 - 578).
from the sounds of it that the Water 7 blu ray set is going to be cropped like the Davey Back Fights episodes.
The Davy Back and Water 7 were made in 16:9, so they won't be cropped here. For the Eternal Logs it's the pre-Foxy episodes that have been cropped from 4:3 to 16:9.
