I don't like most of Part 2 but I'll watch a Naruto Kai from part 1 to the end of Pain's invasion at least.
Naruto Thread XII: This really has to be the final Naruto thread, right?
-
-
There's no point in doing 'Naruto Kai' or a re-animated version because you're never going to get a better version unless an extremely rich and patient fan funded the series. All of the major moments were nailed in the original anime.
-
But a reanimated chunin exam would be great though. Lee vs Gaara in today's animation? Neji's fight? A different, more grounded and mainstream approach to the Pain Fight in Shippuden? I can think of a lot of key moments that, while having the nostalgia charm is great, would benefit from an animation update. Unless of course there's already OVAs and FIllers (which I know that reanimated some scenes) that I missed that covers a lot of them then I rest my case. But even if we put stellar animation aside, the pacing for the last stretch was pretty bad at times. Not that I enjoyed the last arc but there were some obvious pacing issues here and there. The original Naruto animation have a bunch of episodes that actually aged poorly (with screenshots that was meme'd to death back then) and episodes had their fair share of issues.
-
The filler is mostly skippable and the major moments of the series aren't getting done any better. Lest you give Matsumoto Norio three times as much time as before you're not going to be getting better than what he did for Rock Lee versus Gaara in the 2002 series. Tsuru, Matsumoto, Wakabayashi and Yamashita aren't going to have their episodes so easily topped.
We already got the closest to feasible 'prestige series format' for Naruto. Lest you do a radical story changing remake in a totally different format you're not going to do better, you're going to wind up with another lifeless remake that pales in comparison to the original like Hunter x Hunter 2011.
-
Ah that I get. I'm out of my league in terms of who I do know or what I do understand about the Animation side of things so that's pretty cool to know. I do think both can exist independent of each other, like how York Shin can be preferred in the original over the remake. And even the remake did some things that the original didn't do as well here and there too. But i get the point.
-
I'm at a point where I can hardly be hyped about any kind or remake, considering original Dragonball anime made like 36 years ago still holds out better than most of the newer stuff.
But I guess not everything can be HxH remake or OPM season 1.

While I have to admit that I've never seen the first HxH anime and thus cannot judge by my own experience I can see that someone does prefer it for reasons being brought up more than one time. Doesn't mean though that I agree with the assessment of calling Hunter x Hunter 2011 lifeless. Pale in comparison? Sure. But lifeless? Hell no!

So, there's this "Sasuke Story" gaiden that started being published in October and comes out ever 2 weeks. Chapter one was meh, but the second one hooked me in: https://mangaplus.shueisha.co.jp/titles/100212
It is not done by Kishimoto which is really hard to believe because the drawings look exactly like his. -
Are you telling me we could have a ninja velociraptor all this time but didn't?
-
So far I've preferred the first chapter over the second. I thought the recent chapter was kind of boring even with the magic ninja raptor.
-
It's so surreal to see two different artists in two different concurrent comics managing to capture Kishimoto's style so wonderfully. Dragon Ball has never had that luck. Kimura does seem to lack the dynamic camera angles that Kishimoto and Ikemoto have but it's still nevertheless really wild and exciting to me to actually see what could very well simply Kishimoto drawing more Naruto, even though it isn't him. I hope Kimura gets a full spin-off of his own because his work being released in the same era as Ikemoto's work feels like it is too good to be true.
Jeez, imagine Kishimoto, Ikemoto and Kimura teaming up to do something like the Superman Triangle Era?! O.o
EDIT: Okay, THERE'S that signature Kishimoto dynamic camera angle work in the second chapter. That's the good shit!

I think after going through the thing called Boruto for so long, seeing this side story drawn and told like this is a breath of fresh air. I ended up reading up what happens in the rest of the story and although I'm lukewarm with the whole Sasuke/Sakura thing at least it feels like I'm reading Naruto.
-
I'm so behind on Boruto. For the cartoon I'm 105 episodes behind and for the comic I think I've only read the first three volumes. My primary interest with Boruto has been the girls (or Naruto himself), so obviously not being able to get into the story arc of the lead character kind of makes keeping up a drag sometimes. Boruto is just so boring as a character, which is a shame since I have really enjoyed the cartoon's delving into generational themes.
This spin-off has been a lot of fun to read in large part because Sasuke isn't boring, he's interesting, hot and silly. It's a wondering combination that makes his sences fun to watch when considering his entire character arc.
-
Caught up on the manga after not being pleased with the potential of the living situation. It's not as bad as I thought it would be. Shinjutsu is up the alley of where I thought Kishimoto would go. Great timing with Momoshiki ready to reveal the charm ability's source while Sarada and Class Prez defy it.
-
@access-timeco damn, saw your post and went to check those 2 chapters. And ended up getting them all in one sitting. Damn does Naruto work when it's more grounded. Characters dealing with something smaller in scope finally.
It was quite enjoyable, even the Sasuke - Sakura interactions. In the end, those only feel forced because Kishimoto botched Sasuke's development. It's as if he didn't know what to do with him after he got him to pretend he's evil. And so the Sas-boy from part one is mostly gone and we got this recluse. There's really no reason why Sasuke should be behaving like Sai when we first met him.
It's nice to see someone breathe some life back into him.
-
Getting to see Sasuke be worried about his marriage is really nice. It reminds me a lot of the unstated parts of his relationship with Sakura in Part I of the original comic, especially considering how often he would specifically try to look cool in front of Sakura. It really does a lot of the heavy-lifting in giving him a more relatable character.
-
I just wanted to notify everyone that Naruto has fuckin dinosaurs in it now.
-
Why does he talk so much!?
-
Oh, didn't realize they were adapting it into anime.
He talks because the writer decided to put some life back into him, after Kishi completely botched his character development post TS.
-
I dont like it, its almost as bad as Delicious Party Precure's grandma Narrator who always pointed out the obvious and never added to anything. And that's a show for babies so it at least has an excuse there. And they dropped her in the next season anyway.
I think I get why he talks constantly. This arc is an adaptation of a light novel IIRC. So it has inner narration. But a smarter adaptation choice would have been dropping the Narration entirely since this is a visual medium where we can actually see the things the inner narration had to tell us outright in a written medium.
-
We don't typically get a look into Sasuke's inner thoughts so it makes some sense to retain that aspect of the light novel they are adapting. His scenes with Sakura or confronting his time away from his family are some of the most interesting things we've gotten a peak into in years. It's also what made NARUTO Chapter #699 and NARUTO Shippuuden Episode #479 for interesting, I think.
-
@JulieYBM That's great and all but I would love those moments without an unnecesary inner narration that tells us what we can already see in a visual medium. Unless the narration when Sasuke is with Sakura being more loving and tender. THEN I wouldnt mind it.
-
I finally read the BORUTO comic. Up until this point I had only been following the animated series and had fallen behind on it in at Episode #170 (Episode #291 just aired and the series is going on hiatus with Episode #293). I was really surprised that I had managed to remain in the dark on many details of the story. The Kara arc is probably my favorite NARUTO storyline ever at this point. Every scene with Naruto was so good and really underscored how much his character has evolved since the series originally began. I became so engrossed by seeing Naruto act as Hokage and a dad. The scenes with Naruto's generation in general are really surreal to read. They're responsible adults now! Naruto is such a unique figure in the legacy of 'battle shounen' because he just keeps moving further and further away from the stereotype of a cheeky or aloof kid. In a way it's sort of like reading a Superman comic, which is interesting because we don't typically see leads in 'battle shounen' become functioning—if flawed—parents and generals.
Amado is also a really good character and I've enjoy just how much of the series is a sort of chess game with him right in Konoha's house, all without him ever raising a hand himself. I still don't know what his ultimate goal is but I really enjoy just how indirect the conflict he provides is.
I really do wish there was more Sarada in the series, though. I really like the girls in this generation of kunoichi because they all capture a certain mood that's relatable. With Sarada aiming to become the Hokage someday I would think that seeing her journey—especially considering her backstory—would be really interesting. I also just wish that the girls could all not revolve around the men in their lives.
Eida is a lot of fun as a wild card. I just about burst out laughing when Delta and the other girls fell into the effect of her ability. Delta essentially becoming a character from a hypnosis yuri erotica tickles my fancy, even if I wish the story wasn't aimed at kids. By all means, gimme that sweet, sweet hypnosis yuri...but please, put it in a comic aimed at adults. lol
The art is really dynamic. I love how impactful the dialogue scenes look and I think Ikemoto really has a nice, clean paneling style that makes the series easy to look. BORUTO is definitely a better sequel comic than Dragon Ball Super is, for example.
Now that I'm up-to-date with the comic I'll be able to follow the series along during the first day it is released, just like the old days of Naruto. I'm really excited to see what's coming up next, personally. Seeing Naruto and Sasuke outstripped and eventually permanently losing their trump cards was such a foreboding build-up and conclusion. Even now I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop and it's a powerful feeling.
-
OG Naruto anime apparently getting 4 new episodes, weird but okay
-
It's part of a late-ish anniversary for the franchise, since the original series began in 2002. I'm interested in seeing who the staff they got to work on this series could possibly be. The main cartoon itself is so stressed for time and staff that its barely functioning.
God, I would die of happiness if they brought back Wakabayashi or Tsuru for these specials.
-
Amazing video about the best aspect of Naruto
-
The BORUTO anime ended yesterday. And now we wait for the return. I wish Pierrot hadn't kept undercutting the series' production staff by not supporting them.

-
We're getting a new one-shot featuring the winner of the Narutop 99 thing that has been going on for a while. Yeah, I voted for him too >.>

Infographic results:
-
How the actual fuck did Sakura get third place?
-
Guy and Lee out of the top 10 is bullshit, much like having 4 Uchihas there.
I seems that the fandom also has the Uchiha boner of Kishimoto. -
I mean...the Uchiha are hot. I just wish Hinata was higher-ranked.
-
At least Hinata, Shikamaru, Gaara, Neji, and Deidara are top 20.
I don't even remember who Shisui or Sakumo are, and I've certainly never remotely cared about Boruto's dead Grandpa, but meh.
-
Kaguya even being on the list is another atrocity.
-
I don't like Shikamaru, so I would have honestly preferred anyone else to be in the Top 20. Minato isn't exactly my choice for #1 (that would have probably been Naruto, Sasuke or Hinata) but at least I can understand the reasoning. He's cool and cute and a little bit 'sexily pathetic'.
-
That is the most bizarre top characters list I've ever seen.
-
Sakura has been (nearly) topping those pools for a while now. It's an impressive feat for any shonen female character.
Only Rukia does consistently better, from my knowledge. And that's mostly because she often has equal billing to Ichigo in franchise exposure.
-
Kakashi winning over Naruto and Sasuke is the real win here. But how the hell are Shisui and Sakumo so high?
The only part of that top 10 I remotely feel is accurate is Itachi.
-
It was an online poll, so, you know… just like it happened with OP, there was definitely a lot of botting involved, so I wouldn’t take the results too seriously.
Still, wish I had remembered to vote so I could have helped my golden duo (Zabuza and Chiyo).
-
From what I heard, they said the winner of this poll would get a spin-off. So, guess that explains the niche or weird choices.
-
That would explain it. I would actually like a story about Sakumo.
Minato winning is expected then. For a side story he's one of the better picks, though personally I find him about as interesting as a pile of mud. But who knows, maybe this'll make him an actual character with depth instead of being relegated to "the dad guy who is good".
-
@pariston_hill That makes so much more sense.
-
Still think with the level of world building that the OG had, any other spin off would be good.
Can't judge Boruto's world building because Kurama knowing nuclear physics and the whole bunny clan are too ludicrous to me.
-
I doubt most people voting actually factored in the one shot issue. Or even knew about it.
But knowing it, too bad Sakura didn't won, could it finally be the opportunity to show her parents.Btw, this happened right while I am rereading Naruto for the first time since... I don't know, I think since the Sai arc was still going on. So first time reading it with the big reveals and final developments in mind. Good timing.
-
@pariston_hill I swear I remember a panel where they were in some sort of shop, and it had a SPAS-12 shotgun on display.
-
@Johnny-B-Decent I think it was on the Mist Village arc. Who can win a shooty boi or 100 chunins?

Poor guys, they definitely have the anime only kind of designs.
But since Kishimoto seems to consider anime canon (I remember people multiple anime-only characters on the final arc, like Raiga), I guess this checks the box. -
IIRC they also show up in the endless Tsukuyomi dream filler episodes.
-
It'll be interesting to see Kishimoto writing and drawing again. I hope that he does one-shots more often, although I understand if his body is too traumatized to draw often.
