As of last night kissmanga/anime officially died.
Honestly surprised it took this long.

well, shit, I had a bunch of bookmarks that I haven't read and now I will probably don't remember all of it.
Oh no. Where else can I fill my computer with viruses while infringing on Copyright?
:(

Just look at the bookmarks. They might still be named for the series.

I had prints of my bookmarks that i've sent to a friend. Is all good. Now is go for mangadex of Nyaa to find them.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOO.
Eh I'll be fine.
But still won't they come back up again?
Edit: oh man it was a database wipe.
Thats the site I go for the older series where it takes forever to ahem get it transferred to my pc back then.
I'm all for locking down on piracy if there's a convenient alternative but a lot of old series have blu rays that are insanely expensive or are impossible to find.
Apparently it has nothing to do with a crackdown on piracy but because they hosted their image server on blogspot and Google nuked them on copyrights.
I used the site in like 2016, over the past year or two it became absolutely cancerous with ads to the point of being nearly impossible to navigate without the feeling that my laptop got some kind of virus. Good riddance.
Seeing all the stories of this website giving viruses, I'm glad I never touched it.
Thats what happens when you rent google servers to host scans.
Been on kissmanga for a long time and never got a virus. I love how everyone is sharing alt sites on their Discord. I'm not sharing mine. The feds watchin
The greatest thing about kiss was the community.
There's always that one guy everywhere
There are plenty of sites. One going out won't matter a thing.
End of a an era for real, that was my first anime site
I remember using them to watch stuff on my Wii U.
I never used kissanime before, but I was on kissmanga heavy.
I will always be for having multiple sources for manga. Having only 1 source means that they can do whatever they want and take as long as they want. Especially when it comes to accessibility and total experience when reading. If someone is in a country where Viz or M+ doesn't service, they have to gather a group to make them worthy lol. Not only will you take your sweet time to be available, you're part of the reason why I can't get it from someone else. I'm hearing it wasn't specifically a publisher taking them down, but I can be wrong.
From my understanding, this had something to do with Google Drive and servers. One of my fav sites just stopped sharing download links yesterday. Laughed about it with a mod. It was so fast. I asked if they knew the download links were a no-no and she said yeah.
I didn't notice til Def Sounds (music site) went down in 2010 that a lot of these sites can't wait to be the next one that everyone goes to. Take one down, 3 new ones take it's place. I was surprised when Mangastream went away and kissmanga didn't. Now it's out of here. I wonder what's next.
The places that many graduate from in order to pay for manga and anime are being destroyed. Many came from fan based forums, manga and anime sites. There are a lot of customers that they wouldn't have if it wasn't for OJ, AP, Kiss, MS, J Box etc. I started on animeshippuuden, one piece of bleach, Togashi Land and Anime Fuel. Take those away and there's a slight chance that I wouldn't put money into some of these works or even find them to begin with.
Nearly had a panic attack there cause I was going through some subs of Bobobo at the time, luckly I found another site that hosted them so all good. Likewise I used to mill around on Kissmanga for awhile before jumping to another site, one complaint I had was that they didn't fit the pages properly for scrolling read, sometimes they would make the splash pages too big. I got them to host the Vampire Cheerleader OEL manga but they made it so ridiciously big it was barely worth browsing through. Still hate when that does happen though, was a good run while it lasted at least.
Despite the trojans, i liked Kissmanga a lot ( and didn't even know it had a site for anime, lol).
Pity indeed, it also recalls me of mangatraders.

Before Kissmanga there was Mangastream, before mangastream there was Onemanga… I think there might been something before it but its been so long...currently I mostly use mangadex, crunchyroll and manganelo...

We called them MSN groups.

Better than me deleting a bunch of bookmarks but keeping a bunch of others.

Stoptazmo.
I hear what finally got KissAnime was that they use Google's Servers to run their website. That is how they got caught fast.
Wasn't there a website where you could download chapters in bulk?
It closed some time after Onemanga I swear the name is at the tip of my tongue

I think I started reading Naruto like that, before I realized you could read that stuff online. Can't remember the damn name either.
With those annoying ads and the anti-adblocker stuff they had, I'm not really sad to see them go tbh. Wasn't using the site that much anymore anyway.

Took some googling but I found the name for mine, it was Mangatraders.
Not sure if that's it for yourself but it was that and Mangahelpers.
Good days, would download RARs and binge through. Especially when quality ones (Berserk) were lost.
Man, MangaDex seems to be having server/database trouble. Why? Because KissManga and other sites have started shutting down so everyone is using MangaDex.
I wish I could help, but I have no idea how computer programming works, so, yeah.

It's back already. They seem to have a good server backup/ maintenance and forbidding official scans on the site makes them low on a target priority list.
The front page is back, but whenever you try to read something or login you get the database error again.
