Hazbin Hotel/Helluva Boss
-
Well it wouldn't be right without a Christmas gift.
-
Vivzie was nice enough to give us a separate video of this:
I mean, 2 Minutes Notice was the best song, but I would love to have a full version of this.
-
Yaaaaayyy!!!
I'll admit though, I don't recognize any of the guest cast actors. And it said Saint Peter, did they mean Adam? Or are we also getting Saint Peter? (I mean, he does man the gates . . .)
-
-
@Satsuki feast your eyes on the trailer
-
FABULOUS.
Still not sure about Alastor's new voice, but I guess it's close enough.
-
Just realized that two of the main character's voice actors are actors who have had large roles in two Disney animated features. Quite the connection, and quite the difference.
For those who don't know, that's Stephanie Beatriz (Encanto) and Keith David (The Princess and the Frog). Although I suppose Dr. Facillier would fit in this quite well.
-
Just me or the animation in the trailer looks a bit stiff compared to what was previously released in their youtube channel?
-
Brandon is doing Katie Killjoy
https://collider.com/hazbin-hotel-cast-james-monroe-inglehart-krystina-alabado/ -
Well if Blitz (and the rest of I.M.P) isn't going to be there, Brandon has to be included somehow.
It says there though that James Monroe Ingleheart is playing Zestial (an overlord, I believe). Does that mean he's not playing Asmodeus, or just that Asmodeus isn't going to show up at all?
Other than him and Brandon though I sadly don't recognize any other of these Broadway actors. Although I saw elsewhere that Darren Criss will be voicing Saint Peter.
-
We got a lyric video from Angel's new song:
-
Well, now we know that the only reason Charlie doesn't get treated like a princess is that she's too soft.
-
And the first two episodes got leaked. Just two days before the early access.
Don't know it was prime's fault or some hacker but I'm starting to feel animation fans don't deserve shit. -
Welp, time to avoid twitter, instagram, or anything else where spoilers exist.
-
Just watched the first two episodes on the early access. Good stuff, I enjoyed quite well.
There's some minor peeves but nothing like the doomposting of the antis over the leaks.
Still don't get the cling people have that HH and HB are comedies first and not musical dramas.
-
"Musical dramadies" might be the best description.
-
We knew we're going to see Lucifer, but now I really want to know if we'll see Lilith.
-
See y'all in Hell
-
Man EP3&4 are also great. The songs are just to damn hot baby.
-
Woot!
Smart of Amazon to put the first episode on youtube
-
Kinda hard not to hear Blitz's voice come out of Katie Killjoy, but oh well.
-
Finally! I really enjoyed the first four episodes. I really want to see more from Vox, also Niffty is crazy but adorable.
-
I'm actually quite interested in Lute.
-
The writing in the first 3 episodes is a little weak, but episode 4 is amazing. Keith David is amazing, as always.
-
@Satsuki
I think what the series is suffering the most is from expectations, in the 5 years it took to fruition people develop all kinds canons on how characters should behave, how they interact, how the story beats should go, etc.Not to say there isn't room for improvement, the show runs off with the premisse that you've watched the pilot to know the main characters instead of reintroducing them in ep1, they are trying to do too much too soon too fast (which is probably related to the current nuking of animation in US), what feels like a lack of oversight on the script team, and too little eggbois scream time.
-
Maybe that's what's bugging me about the show. I like it or want to like it, but something feels off. The main cast isn't interesting enough. I feel like most of the time they are window dressing until the spotlight hits them.
Then there's the whole Hazbin Universe. I love the concept but I don't think we've seen enough of it, or at least, I don't understand how it works. The citizens are murderous but the Overlords want to help them? Where do the Princes fit in? One minute it's war, death, insanity. The next, someone is singing about their troubles. It's such mood whiplash it takes me out of the story.
Expectations could be a factor because I expected more from the Angels than having carbon copy personalities of the demons. Maybe that's what the creators are going for, but that just makes the Angels boring to me. All of that, plus the music isn't anything to write home about. It's not bad, but not one of them stuck out to me. They're just songs moving the plot. Again, I don't hate the show by any means but it's lacking... I don't know.... Polish? Subtlety? Direction? Something.

Hellaverse to be precise, but that's a whole can of worms that 8 or 10 years old.
The basic totem ole goes like this: Lucifer > Charlie > 7 Sins > Demon born Royalty (Goetia) > Overlords > Sinners > Hellspawn (Succubi, Imps, Hellhounds, etc). Helluva Boss goes a bit more into the hierarchies due to it's prime relationship ( Stolitz).
The overlords don't want to help sinners properly, but their great power lies on the sinners souls that are bound to them, so too much sinners being eliminated hurts them.
And while hell born are mortal, sinners can only be killed with angelic weapons, so if one sinner kills another they just respawn the next day.I don't think Hazbin has the whiplash problem that some episodes of Helluva Boss had, but it's a consistent problem of both shows. It usually goes for instant gratification moments than bigger buildings and bigger payoffs.

Helluva Boss gave is the first view that Heaven is not exactly a paradise, but aside from the exterminators they don't seen exactly like murderous gleeful, more like religious stuck up conservatives taken to it's logical term. Which I guess, is kind the point, since Viv is a salvadoran-american bi woman I don't think she has a very kind perception of christian mythos.
And to be fair, it only takes one being raised in a christian environment to know that the idea of repenting sinners in hell to heaven was a no go.
The show is more about the self improvement that heals you.@Nectar said in Hazbin Hotel/Helluva Boss:

HEATHEN. I though you had better taste than that Nectar, to complain about the one feature of the show that has been flawless.
-
I dunno, I thought the "Sorry" song was kind of a dud. "Stayed Gone" is my favorite song so far.

It's slowly doing less of that during the next three episodes, and if episode 4 is anything to go by, the later half of the season should be awesome.

Guess people agree. -
What are the numbers? Votes?
Also has anyone noticed that Velvette's hairstyle changes every time she shows up?

Watched the first four episodes and I'm with the general consensus that it's pretty good, but it kinda feels like something is lacking.
The first episode really does kick things off to a weird start with the writers essentially turning the premise of the show on its head by introducing this deadline where a bunch of inhabitants of Hell are going to be wiped out, and... I dunno. Wasn't Charlie just wanting to reform people for its own sake enough?
The other episodes are fine, especially episode 4, which really gave Angel Dust the chance to shine.
But man, all I can say is I'm glad pariston is here to explain these things, since I've watched all of HH and Helluva Boss, and I still feel like I have the barest grasp of how the hierarchy of Hell works.
Oh well. Still looking forward to the remaining episodes. Maybe the show needs a little more time to find its groove.

Growing pains me thinks, nothing offensively bad of a script but with room for improvement.
There's one particular rumor form the leak that I'm worried being true/how it plays out though.

I'm basically on the same ship as you, it's just that having a fanart compulsion my twitter feed is filled with fans (of diverse fanbases) that makes easier to grasp somethings. Like this:
There's a great deal of second tier canon, and minor details that were given through sign in streams, q&as sessions, the old character instagram accounts and more. Of those only the insta accounts are something I'm familiar (Val is a fucking rat), which reminds me I need to watch the Q&A from the early acess.
-
Damn I wanted Mimzy to stay.
-
"Take that, depression!"
The episodes are getting better now that we're into new territory. Literally, I guess?
-
I'd like to do a little theorizing here:
-
Yep, that was a really good pair of episodes.
I love how Alastor smiles even when he's genuinely angry, which adds to his creepy factor.
Also, Lucifer playing a fiddle. Was that a reference to Devil Went Down to Georgia?
-
As it was a gold fiddle, I'm going to assume yes.
And part of Alastor's character is he always smiles, no matter what.
-

Episodes 5 and 6 really got the ball rolling. Liked them more than the first 4 episodes combined. I was not expecting Lucifer to have that type of personality and opinions about Sinners but it makes sense. What a great character!
And thank goodness all the angels don't have Adam's personality! I now find them and Heaven interesting again. As someone who doesn't look for or visit places with Hazbin Hotel spoilers, I was blown away with how much lore we got. The Vaggie reveal took me completely be surprise and made me give a crap about the character. I probably don't like the series as much as others, but I'm very satisfied where the show's going. I even liked the Dad song! Well, except for when that new characters showed up.

We needed something really off putting and left field to break the tension, the Dads were either throwing hands or throwing pants.
Mimzy saved Charlie from parental trauma.
