Gosh, this arc actually has tension unlike the previous 5 or so. Every chapter I feel there's less and less chance for the alliance to win.

I still see no way Luffy can beat Kaido 1v1 without any assistance and at the same time Luffy's pride took such a blow with their previous encounter that I don't see him accepting any help either.

Problem is, if he beats Kaido 1v1 completely by himself then that means Luffy automatically becomes the strongest being in the one piece world and future yonko arcs maybe lose hype… Therefore, I don't think he will actually beat Kaido 1v1 (let alone Big Mom as well).

None of the two Yonko will be beaten 1v1, I'm sure. The only UYonko I expect to see defeated 1v1 is Blackbeard, near the end of the story.

I can totally agree with Fishman Island and Punk Hazard having no tension. I can also agree with Dressrosa's tension feeling "fake", with Fujitora not acting as an antagonist properly, with Sabo on Luffy's side, etc. But Totto Land had no tension? The arc where Luffy took a handful of people into the lair of an Emperor's crew, where even their disguised infiltration attempt with the help of a member of Big Mom's crew totally backfired, and they could only escape by a hair's breadth thanks to the sacrifice of several characters (Pedro, Pekoms, Pound… the will of P(ell) lives on) and thanks to Germa 66 plus the Sun Pirates staying behind to hold off Big Mom's crew in a "suicidal" mission?

You just described why that arc had no tension. Half the Strawhats were able to infiltrate an Emperor's crew on their own home turf, steal a poneglyph and escape without any major losses thanks to a few characters "sacrificing themselves" to somehow hold off an entire YONKO CREW on their own freaking island.

And Wano doesn't really have tension either.

I mean, the guy with eight heads got his head chopped off…suddenly...before the protagonists got to serve him his comeuppance...in a manga where fake-outs vastly outnumber permanent deaths. There's no way he's staying dead.

Sure, the chances of him being alive are higher than him being dead, but nothing is set in stone.
And nobody gets anything from such statements, all it could do is confuse people.

Orochi is right now the Schrodinger Shogun. But Oda can very well be using the reader’s disbelief in his death to make a big twist.

Whole Cake had plenty of tension. You're commenting on it in hindsight, but there were multiple moments where it seemed like the Straw Hats wouldn't make it out. That it took less manpower than you would have liked to handle the issue doesn't mean the tension didn't exist during the arc, it means you didn't like the finishes.

edit: There are lots of legit complaints about the arc, like the ease at which the Zeff situation was put at bay, or Big Mom's crew's dishonesty and fear at her playing too large a role in the Straw Hat's escape, but I really think the tension was pretty thick during multiple moments.

I'd also point to Monet and Vergo, but people just as frequently like to proclaim them to be "definitely alive" without any evidence as well…

In my opinion there are dozens more built in reasons that Orochi is not dead than there are that he is dead.

Let's not confuse opinions with facts. "Dead unless they come back" is the modus operandi for deaths in the series. It makes you question if they're dead, sure, but sometimes it's more obvious than others. I always thought Pound was coming back because the injury was off-screened. Pedro's death hammers home a much more important theme than Pound's, so much higher likelihood of being dead.

With yasuie it's wierd that kanjuro took his body. Like what is he doing with it since he is the traitor…

Well the whole point of Kanjuro being undercover is that he completely stays within character outside of reporting to Orochi. So he should've done what any loyal Scabbard would've done, and properly buried the body.

Let's be honest, Kanjuro being the traitor doesn't increase Yasuie's chances of survival - Kanjuro's master, Orochi, made a very public spectacle about personally executing him that was broadcast in both audio and video all across Wano.

Even if Yasuie somehow survived without any of the people who observed and/or interacted with the body noticing that he was only "mostly dead", Kanjuro would've just finished the job himself.

Haven't been following it, but I think the phrasing was more along the lines of "the chapter in the Jump issue after the next one".

Takano praised that "x" chapter first.

Then the other editor besides him said something like it's the chapter that will be in the WSJ volume after the next one.

Therefore, "x" = chapter 987

I wouldn't say it increases his chances, but it does open the door for a possible twist if you desperately want to pull one. Kanjuro is a nutter after all, Oda has a lot of room to let him act in unexpected ways. And if he wanted to save Yasui, Kanjuro even has a rather flexible Devil Fruit that has seemingly no major limitations (except for required drawing skills).

I think any scenario where Yasui survives is really awful, but at least it wouldn't surprise me if Kanjuro kept him alive to make him suffer, or maybe he had some internal conflict in regards to his perfectly played role vs. his Kurozomi identity.
