@Cockycent:
All of those look like a fatigued Nami
Sure, but sticking with "oda is going to draw pretty women 98% the same" then it comes down to the little things, so I was trying to show the difference even a tiny change would make in making a more distinct character, if thats what Oda was going for. Obviously stronger cheekbones or jawline, or an entirely different nose would go a lot further.
Like, you're not going to mistake Robin for Nami. Post timeskip you might mistake Robin for Viola or Hancock, but you're not going to mistake her for Nami. And their differences are subtle, but they're there.
But when even the little things aren't really different or easily identifiable, well… that's why I'm just not feeling it on Yamato.
There's enough thought in the design its not a first pass sketch, but its not something he dwelled on for weeks or years either.
Personally, considering Oden and Kaidou both have very similar noses and eyes, and elongated heads, I'd go with giving her a sort of feminine version of that. Stronger cheekbones, the same slanted eyes both Oden and Kaidou have, slightly downturned nose, ever so slightly longer face (but still feminine) keep the stronger eyebrows.
And there you have a character that is never going to be confused with one of the other two. (Obviously finesse that a little more with a hand drawing that isn't literally copy pasting things in photoshop) If it was at all Oda's concern about having them be diverse and distinguishable long term, it would be super easy to have done so with even a little thought and effort.
Why I'm not on the Yamato train unless even more stuff piles up or she gets one of the missing haircolors.
"You can tell the difference between her and Nami if they're side by side" isn't the same as "I would never confuse that for Nami". (Obviously height and horns would also make a difference side by side.)
