Yashahime(Inuyasha Sequel)

Isn't this the manga that already ran way, way, way too long?
-
I guess she needs the money. I do not think she has had smash hits recently.

Nah that’s Bastard, Golgo 13, and Kochikame:ninja:

Beet The Vandal Buster went on a decade long hiatus, apparently came back then took another hiatus.

Its was 56 volumes, which was way less than some other long runners that went too long. Also, it was largely the anime padding that made it seem that way, they had a LOT of filler episodes. But they were actual standalone episodes instead of chapter padding that did a decent job of matching tone, so it was hard to tell.
Also, Takehashi wanted to end it way way sooner, but its success had the editors prompt her to keep it going.
You look at the actual pacing of the thing, stuff like the jewel being like 90% remade, Sango and Miroku getting engaged, Kikyo dying again (before she came back AGAIN) Sesshomoru's turn around, when Kagura died… were all before the 1/2 mark. The story was very clearly wrapping up long before it was drawn out. I can't find the article anymore but I did read once that she WAS encouraged to extend it, that's not just assumption.
It was inflated well past what the author would have naturally done, same as Ranma was. You look at her other series like One Pound Gospel or Maison Ikkoku epecially, and those tend to run at reasonable paces.
Also, this is basically the anime staff doing their version of Boruto. Takehashi herself is just advising, she's not doing a new manga. And it been like 15 years since Inu Yasha ended, its fine.

Rin-ne ran for nearly ten years (40 volumes) and had a 75 episode anime. It wasn't a mega hit by any means, but it did fine. (That it was about shinigami at the same time Bleach was running might have been a factor) And she just started her new series Mao about a year ago and it already has an anime lined up.

The artist apparently broke their hand or something in that particular case but yeah… 10 year gap only to then go into hiatus again is sad. I actually liked that series too.
-
I would have guessed that Ranma and Inuyasha are enough to be set for life, I doubt she does anything for the money nowadays…?
Anyway, not really interested. I only gave Inuyasha a chance because Ranma was entertaining (with ups and downs), but watching the Anime was kind of painful.
Edit: Yeah, she is one of the richest people in Japan according to wikipedia (based on taxes paid).
-
I know that she is very successful and rich. It was a tongue-in-cheek comment. I tried Maison Ikkoku, Ranma and Inuyasha with only finding Maison Ikkoku to be pretty decent because like it has been said above; the story was not dragged out. I understand Takahashi's success as she is definitely no hack just not my cup of tea.

I was trying to figure out what the issue was but couldn’t find anything but even having a broken hand would
suck certainly less worse than what happened to the author of Highschool Of The Dead whose death put the manga on hiatus until the end of the time. -
I could be mistaken but waaaay back when the series first went into hiatus I think there was a comment about a hand injury… somewhere.
Not prominent enough to be memorialized into wikipedia or anything but...

Loved the original, can't wait for this.

.Ah that explains why I got so tired of Inuyasha eventually. After a point it seemed to be just repeat itself and just drag on. I caught the feeling it was nearly done, then it juuuussst drrraaaggged along. I ended up abandoning it because it became boring with how it dragged.
From that link above, seems the sequel will focus on the daughters of Inuyasha & Sesshoumaru? …why did it seem to be following footsteps of Boruto .. or whatever the title is

Roughly 50 episodes out of the original 167 were filler, and mostly in the second half of the series… so there's good reason it felt sloggy and repetitive. if you compare the first 60 or so episodes to anything later its a significant difference. This happens to a lot of manga longrunners... they start out with a buffer so the early anime is filler free but then it catches up and well...
You can just skip most of that and watch The Final Act, even if you missed the last 100 episodes of the anime, and you won't miss a thing. and can jump right into the finale without missing a thing. That last 26 episodes of the revival are crammed with content because they had the opposite problem... but better too much than too little.

Doing generational jumps is a normal thing. You get to see that all the couples had happy lives, but they're old and mature enough they're not immediately dragged into things… while you still get to play with the same world and lore, and bring those favorites back whenever you need to.

Golgo 13 can never run too long.
It can when you take your apparent first hiatus in 51 years of serialization.
-
Takahashi already uses the running gag a lot so I suppose when you add filler it can only feel too much
Her new serizialisation Mao has quite some common points with Inuyasha so I wonder if this is related
-
As someone who loved early Inuyasha and actually owned the entire manga series in English… why are we supposed to care about this?
People started watching Boruto because it aired not long after Naruto and the manga had a huge cast of fan favorite characters that many people were still invested in despite the series dragging a bit.
With Inuyasha there were like seven important characters who weren't that well fleshed out and their stories were all fully resolved at the end after twenty or thirty volumes of dragged out boredom.
What's the draw here?

And bitching about who ended up with who.

Well its a new story so you're not supposed to care about it at all yet, like any story you haven't yet seen.
But for people that were fans of the series, bigger ones than you are, its more of the world they like and a chance to see what happened after. Get some new adventures and new characters, with the same mix of comedy and adventure that got the previous series to sell 40 mill copies and run for 200 episodes.
I'm perfectly interested to see what a follow up does that doesn't have the constraints of a manga to keep pace with. Also, NOT being dragged down by Naraku plot and shard hunt means hopefully it'll be a lot less formulaic overall.
Granted, these ten year later follow ups on older shows tend to not go great, if Slayers and Tenchi are anything to go by, but it could be good.

Sesshoumaru was the only reason I even watched the show. So if he's around. I'll definitely watch. Although it'll be like why I watch Boruto. Just hopes of seeing characters I like.

Sesshoumaru was criminally underused.
I might be interested in seeing him again.

The nerd groups I'm in are all losing it over who could be his baby mama.
-
Which of course has caused some people to clutch their pearls over at least one know suspect.
-
Yeah. That'll be so fun if it is Rin…:getlost:
People are already preparing to call him a groomer.
I'm assuming it's not her since there's no resemblance to her from the color images I've seen.

The trailer for Yashahime is out.
-
This sequel is kinda giving Blue Seed vibes…. I wonder if there is gonna be a dub. If so I hope they use Ocean to dub it.
-
Of course there will be a dub. Its a huge property, I'm sure Viz is working on it even now.
And obviously they'll try to get back the original cast if at all possible.
-
I watch the first episode of Yashahime. I thought the episode was really good. I like that most of the first episode was mostly an flashback that took place a couple months after the finale of the original series. It was nice seeing the main characters and some of the recurring characters again. From what I seen of them so far, I already like Towa, Setsuna and Moroha.
-
New show is kind of a hot mess. That first episode was terrible nonsense for any new viewers (which I'm not) but it starts with a flash forward, then it focuses entirely on the old cast, then the second episode goes to a flashback… and somehow Inu Yasha and Kagome's daughter has never met the kids from the other families?
(And we still havent gotten to where the first episode started)
Like obviously they want to play off a mystery of "what happened to those characters?" but they're doing a terrible job of it. Its not even an explicitly stated mystery at this point, its just kind of lingering there unaddressed. And after having the old cast showcased heavily in the first episode, are they even going to appear in any capacity for the rest of the series?
Like, the actual show hasn't even acknowledged whose these girls are the daughters of, if the marketing materials didn't spell it out and they left out the first episode, it could almost just be an actual standalone spinoff set in the world.
Hopefully third episode starts to tie to all together.
-
A few updates. Here's the cast for the Yashahime english dub its been confirmed its gonna be a LA/Vancouver dub with most of the original cast from InuYasha dub returning (bar Moneca Stori of course)
And here's a clip of the dub

I'm actually excited for the dub for Yashahime. Since I'm happy that they got Richard, David, Kelly, Kira, Jillian, and Kirby back to reprise their roles from both the original anime and Final Act. I'm actually surprised they were able to get David back for this, since he haven't really been doing dub voices for anime in a long time (Since he didn't voice Sesshomaru during the Final Act episodes).
-
Well, getting them back isn't too big a deal if the first five episodes are any indication… given how little the old main characters are actually appearing past the first episode.
And that considered there'd be riots if they didn't manage to get back at least some of them. Same as when they had the Tenchi and Slayers casts come back after a decade for their follow ups.
-
Watched the dub of the first episode out of curiosity of what the new characters sounded like, and to hear the old cast again. And wow, old is right. I know its been 10 years since Final Act, and 17 since they started dubbing the original show, but none of themm sounded like themselves. There were some bits and pieces that sounded right but… is that just aging at work or did they all forget how to play their roles? It's kind of weird.
Not like they'll be anywhere else in the show after the first episode so it barely matters, but still weird.

Quoting myself from the RIP thread Kirby Morrow (Miroku) has passed away
@Onepieceanimefan23:Kirby Morrow voice of Miroku from Inuyasha has passed away.

Dang…. Kirby is going to be missed. I always enjoyed his performance of Miroku.
-
Shouldn't the title of this thread be updated to the series name?
-
Nah, no one would know what Yashahime is.
No one's talking about it anyway.
Possibly because nothing interesting has happened.
-
Yeah, but maybe we could change the tense. How about "Inuyasha has gotten a sequel"
-
It could just be titled Yashahime (Inuyasha Sequel).
-
Naaaw, that would make sense.
-
Naaaw, that would make sense.
Damn I wasn't expecting anyone to take my suggestion seriously given snarky and jokey titles is kind of this forum's gimmick.
-
Since this is sorta Yashahime related. I recently got the first three volumes of the original Inuyasha anime on bluray (I been meaning to collect the series for awhile now.). I have to say the show looks great on bluray. Also I can't wait for the Band of Seven episodes to be on bluray, since that was favorite arc of Inuyasha.
-
Well, we finally found out who the mother of sesshomaru's kids was.
! it was Rin.
! The most boring, easily guessed, fanficcy, squick answer possible. They maybe should have started the series with this episode, or something like it. Trying to make it a mystery of why the kid all grew up alone doesn't really work… especially when they didn't make any mystery out of it at all and just eventually gave the answers to the viewers on a platter 13 episodes later. And it looks like next episode they're fleshing out Maroha's backstory some more.
It's like they get a dozen episodes in and realized these characters were shallow and empty and dull one note stereotypes without much reason to care about them or the plot of the story, so they're trying to fix that now by actually showing their proper childhoods and... having a plot.
Better late than never I guess. It's been overall pretty forgettable fanfic thus far.
Also it looks like they officially hooked Koga up with the filler wolf girl. That at least I'm okay with since Takehashi said she liked the character and canonized her by dropping her name in.
-
Wow, that was a completely terrible ending. Complete nonsense battle that made no sense, AND ridiculous power creep, AND it didn't resolve a single lingering plot thread.
They announced "season 2 is coming!" after it was done but cripes, season 1 wasn't very good so I'm not expecting anything.
-
Yashahime is coming to Toonami on June 26th.

The trailer for Season 2 of Yashahime is out.
