i'm enjoying this arc more than i usally do enjoy reading HxH…most of the times i'm just screaming "show,don't tell" to the pages,but in this arc it actually makes sense to lay down everything and treat it like a chess game because there are actually things as a reader we don't know and we are discovering with the protagonist, so it makes sense to spend pages explaining things and why they are doing stuff.
let's hope at least this time togashi has something interestiing to do after he lays down all the pieces on the chessboard

Dunno. That may be the case, but… Oda's made some author comments that, paraphrasing, "some authors are lazy and shouldn't be doing weekly manga". WHich I guess could be aimed at Bleach but I think they timed out when HxH was running... and I don't think Oda would comment on anyone that managing a weekly, however poor it might be.
Also, Togashi didn't do any special art for OP's anniversary but he DID for Naruto... and has even drawn Naruto sketches for fun in his volumes before.The passive aggressiveness of not wanting to homage just Oda for hitting his 20th year is just another example.

Togashi has done the amazing job of reverting things to "nen is mysterious and spooky power" both for the characters and us (the nen beasts are kinda new for the reader). Just wow!!

Isn't Togashi just better friends with Kishimoto than he is with Oda. They have done a number of joint interviews together so it makes sense that he would be more eager to do Naruto homages. Also are passive aggressive homages even a thing? Just seems like you're reading into things too much

When EVERYONE ELSE in the book is doing one, he'd get called out if he didn't include one.
So, he did it because he was basically obligated. And then he took away any special quality by making it one of many instead of just that.

I remember an interview featuring Oda and Togashi in which Togashi was being a tad dismissive toward OnePiece in I-don't-remember-what-way (maybe something about the no-death policy in OnePiece) and Oda replied "uhu I see that Mr.Togashi has a sense of humor".

Togashi could push for that instead of his abuse of the system.

If i were there, i will probably work on the cafe at the Hunter exam with the great elevator, that place looks nice, and just refer guys that ask an specific plate to my boss.
The chapter, nothing happened, really.

Like I keep saying. He's earned the right to have a life and take it easier. No one would have a problem with him only doing 10 chapters a year (basically a monthly schedule) if he'd just be professional about it and say up front that's what he was doing.
That level of respect to the audience is all we need. "This many chapters are done, enjoy. I'll start working on the next batch immediately, expect them in the winter."
It's why we're fine with Berserk and not HxH.
Such a minor thing, it'd go a long way.

Especially since Kurapika is burning it away for something as stupid as this.
