! Who cares about haters, people who say "bad writing by Togashi" and things like that, should read more Bleach or Fairy tales. Just to compare. And than if he decided to kill Hisoka instead, the complain would be: man, why that bastard just killed off such popular character, and so on… that was a brilliant choice instead, and totally legit since you can give conditions to your own nen in Hxh world, we already saw similar situations.

! This isn't the problem. I sort of figured out he would survive, after all. What I don't like is the turn of events. Hisoka waking up like a jack ass and then killing two Troupe members, just like that.
-
! Hisoka curled himself as small as he could before defending his body with his nen. So rather than the explosion itself, it was the crumbling of the arena and all the rock and bodies that did him in.
Plausible! Like, this is not outside the realm of possibility for this manga at ALL for him to survive in this way, especially for a genius like Hisoka: even Gon has done similar, when fighting the Bomber Devil.
! But anyway I never come to conclusions about a chapter before the chapter is out. Like, chill out a bit and wait to see what happened before y'all get all aggy, lol -
You mean that guy who said he had the best capacity to hold air actually meant, even compared to whales? He should have suffocated and that's a totally unfair cheat with his abilities!
This is lazy and cheap writing on Togashi's part! How dare he set up things in advance or play fair with powers!
-

! LOL let's wait for the actual chapter, he may have been planned that since the beginning.
-
! Now that we know Kuroro killed Hisoka. I'm looking at the poll, and a nice grin comes to my face.
! And to those who believed Hisoka could beat Meruem. well. –->>>> lmao.! Hisoka got his fight, enjoyed himself, and was challenged in a pre-setup scenario heavily stacked in Chrollo's favor… and still lived to fight another day despite it being a death match, and then immediatley went on to kill two more spiders.
! He lost the fight but he still won in his own way. And the votes were mostly about who we the audience liked better and wanted to win, more than a super accurate calculation of where the story was going.
! Neither of them died so don't go getting snotty about it. -
! Heart massage can cure everything.
-
! did the summary not say that Hisoka had 10 left? So is he not going to kill Machi, or are there only 12 spiders?
-

! Neither of them died so don't go getting snotty about it.! yeah ok. It's not clear if Kuroro did kill him but it seems - according to Machi's reaction - that he was dead, and came back to life.
! But now, please stop the "hey, Hisoka didn't lose, he even won the fight in his own way " it sounds too much like a Hisoka-fanboy speech to me.
it makes me think about Doflamingo vs Luffy. after the fight, Doflamingo's fanboys were saying "hey Luffy didn't win the fight, Law helped him, he couldn't have done i himself. and lot of citizens had to protect him during 10minutes, then no ! Doflamingo > Luffy "
! I know Kuroro probably couldn't win without the crowd, but still. He won. Maybe Hisoka will kill him someday, but Kuroro won this fight.
! now, I'm just gonna wait the chapter….... -
Uhm…. Doflamingo DID beat and outclass Luffy. Luffy was completely outclassed prior to gear 4. With it, Luffy had the advantage, but couldn't get the job done, and fell completely exhausted and unable to move before it was done. ANd that was after Law had already delivered a lethal attack earlier. Luffy needed 10 minutes of distraction breathing time and someone carrying him away to recover before he could finish the job. Luffy had a ton of help in that fight.
In a straight 1 on 1 with no help, he absolutely lost. There is zero arguing that.
You can argue that getting others to help is part of Luffy's skillset and that's fine, because it is... but he WAS overall inferior to Dofla and lost the main fight, and he needed help to win it.
He won in the end despite the odds. He nearly died in the process, but was ultimately the winner. But he still lost the actual fight. -
Oh boy!! the spoilers must be good if it generated this much discussion.
MUST.
NOT.
LOOK.
AT.
IT.
-
! By "won in his own way", I think that he means "he managed to reach what he was trying to reach (the pleasure of fighting)".
-
! Hisoka is so happy in having lost the fight that he went for a round 2 now including the whole troupe. Let's hope that the chapter matches the spoilers and see how the boat trip to hell will play out.

! it was a death match and he survived, kuroro won the figth but not the deathmatch

! If I were Chrollo, I'd cut his head off and take it back home as a trophy.
That way you'd be sure he's dead. -
! @Smudger:
! > I don't consider Hisoka to be an expendable character considering how much time has been invested on him.
! C…
! > This match seems more about moving on from the Gen'ei Ryodan and onto something bigger (oncoming arc), while also upgrading or revealing Hisokas true potential as an ongoing enemy to Gon.
! CO…
! > While it is possible for Hisoka to lose this fight, it doesn't achieve or set anything up (as we have seen with previous characters like Netero). Though I wouldn't be surprised to see this all being part of a bigger ploy to generate money, or manipulate someone higher up. Why else do this in an arena when they could have both fought elsewhere.Kind of reminds me of the auction.
! COMBO!!
! Looks like my predictions were't far off. So by the looks of things the Gen'ei Ryodan will be slowly picked off by Hisoka, before we see something much larger during the next arc. Though I'm not sure I'm happy about this way of cheating death as being his trump card. Fingers crossed he still had something else he was saving for the finale.
! All in all a good chapter. -
! Something I never understand. why folks say Hisoka is a genius ? is Gon a genius too ? and Killua ? and Kurapika ? and Morel ? and Netero ? and the Zodiacs ? or are they just saying that because they're Hisoka's fanboy ?
! Now that he lost. Who's the genius ? -
! Now that he lost. Who's the genius ?
! I'd say anyone able to cheat death and enable themselves to fight later and in a more favourable environment is pretty smart, if not a genius.
! But whatever peoples views about him are pretty irrelevant as the outcome has allowed the story to progress and give us clearer insight into the plots direction.
! Now lets sit back and watch voters debate the technicalities of who won lol -
Who's the genius ?! It´s just my opinion, but he always managed to keep calm and collected in though situations.
His ability is somewhat limited compared to some other characters, but he has mastered it in such a way that allowed him to adapt to any situation he has faced off. He is always one step above his opponent, even when trying to figure out what their abilities and limitations are.
! He is also undoubtedly one of the most talented nen users in the series, and has a very good understanding of its theory.
! Gon and Killua are genius as well for how fast they managed to grasp the concept of nen and perfect it when compared to others.
Morel seems like an intelligent user, but not sure if I can call him a genius.
Netero is in a level above all others.–- Update From New Post Merge ---
! The grudge nen are different from vows nen. How much we don't know. For example we don't know the condition for Pitou's puppet show, or the +- hands guy, or kurapika's chains (theorized to become even more dangerous if he dies, to his victims) it seems to be more related to the mind state of the user than conditions.
! But we have no evidence either way. I mean a vow when you are about to die is meaning less, and most nen users won't go into a battle thinking that they are going to die.
! Besides compared to what the others did, pulling an enel (unless hisoka is now just his nen grudge, being alive as an aura being manipulating a body) it doesn't seem to be that impressive of an ability.! I think it´a all about the mental state.
Vow makes abilities stronger because it gives them strict conditions to work, which reinforce them.
Grudge nen as always been associated to the users mental state at death.
Pitou had to protect her King, Kurapika only uses the chains vs people he really hates, etc etc.
The strong feelings reflect in the user´s Aura.! I was ready for a great deal of things out of this fight. But THIS!? God damn Hisoka is now Buccellati hunting down the troupe, while they will steal Kakin's treassure from the boat. I wonder if anyone will be alive when the boat reachs DC. We zombie pedo clown now, thats a good death metal band name by the way.
Holy shit, this comparison xD
-
! Something I never understand. why folks say Hisoka is a genius ? is Gon a genius too ? and Killua ? and Kurapika ? and Morel ? and Netero ? and the Zodiacs ? or are they just saying that because they're Hisoka's fanboy ?
! Well he has some of the best nen techniques in the series in terms of adaptability as well as keen battle sense that allows him to use them to their fullest.
! Add that to the kind of analytical abilities that he used to work out Kastro's nen techniques and turn that particular fight on it's head and it's kind of easy to see why people consider him a genius.
! Gon, Killua and Kurapika are all incredibly fast learners when it comes nen and only get better with each battle.
! Morel's a very experienced hunter with a very versatile ability, but I don't know if I'd call him a genius.
! We don't even have to talk about Netero in this context.
! We haven't seen enough of the zodiacs and their abilities to judge whether they're geniuses or not, except for Ging who clearly also falls into that category.! Now that he lost. Who's the genius ?
! Hisoka went into a battle where Chrollo had systematically planned out what abilities he would need to achieve victory and used every conceivable element to his advantage, even the audience.
! Following that battle Hisoka has managed to use nen to resurrect himself and subsequently killed two members of the Troupe.
! It's safe to that that Hisoka has only reinforced the opinion that he's a genius after doing so.
! Hell, probably a lot more than if he'd just come up with some cool new way to use Bungee Gum/Texture Surprise to pull out a victory. -
Who's the genius ?! Togashi seems to consider him a genius, or insanely talented at least. He recognized Ishida's one shot which may or may not be considered canon, but the fact he recognizes it might mean Hisoka in one shot isn't far off his Hisoka. And in one shot he learned how to use Nen and applied his own version in a couple of days.
! Are you saying he isn't a genius because he failed to beat a guy who stacked multiple different abilities against him.
! Either way, the word "genius" gets thrown around too much. I prefer "talented". -
By the way:
Which sports event considers the referee and the audience as legitimate weapons? Ok, the former maybe for the WWE but the latter?

-
! The spoilers made me laugh. Hisoka probably knows that killing Chrollo is a waste of time. What he cares for is the Troupe itself, not his own mortality. This is the best way to hurt Chrollo - the guy who thinks he is above humans. Now we're going to see Hisoka wage psychological warefare killing Troupe members till he finally has his rematch with Chrollo.

I am.(The answer being "all those mentioned above")
-
! If it isn't Sandman vouching for the spoilers I would dismiss it as fake. And another heart massage… I'm surprsed that Hisoka turned down Machi's offer, and even more surprised that Deceitful Texture can take care of his busted fingers and foot. He should have used that before resigning from the fight.
-
! More intrigued whether or not Chrollo added Hisokas abilities to the book, and if not…. why?

uhhh. Hisoka is not a genius. Gon isn't, same for Killua, Morel, Illumi, Kurapika and so long. they are just smart characters, as all the characters in this manga and they are talented.
If there is one fella I would name a genius in this manga, it's definitely Gin Freecs. I mean, do you remember this http://www.mangareader.net/hunter-x-hunter/347/7 ?????
That was awesome. He outclasses Kuroro's ability in a blink of an eye.Hisoka is just cool and nice. People tend to say he's a genius because he's an eccentric and a pedophile.

That´s just conceptual discussion then.
If you have your standards that high, then yes, he is not a genius. The stuff I take into consideration makes me think he is. But there´s also a lot of info about him that I don´t have.
-
People tend to say Hisoka is a Genius because of his ability of reading the situation and always being one step ahead his opponents. He's a psycho yes, but this has nothing to do with his immense capacity of concentration.
-

This is the best way to hurt Chrollo - the guy who thinks he is above humans. Now we're going to see Hisoka wage psychological warefare killing Troupe members till he finally has his rematch with Chrollo.
! I don't even think it's a matter of hurting Chrollo though. Since Hisoka gets off on fighting powerful opponents, and knows that he just lost against Chrollo and his special ability-stealing powers, he likely wants to make sure his rematch doesn't turn out the same. It makes sense that he would eliminate those two since they held the powers Chrollo was borrowing through the match; Hisoka wants another fight, but he doesn't want the same fight. And, since he already faced Shalnark and Kortopi's powers, he has no reason to think they would give a better fight than Chrollo borrowing their powers. Hisoka hasn't proven to be a character who kills strong (assuming being with the Phantom Troupe proves their strength) opponents so quickly, but he will kill if he doesn't see them as having the potential to give him a… let's call it pleasurable experience. As far as the rest of the Troupe goes though… you could be right about getting back at Chrollo, but it could also be that Hisoka already knows their powers and doesn't want to face them during a rematch; the unknown is much more exciting for the insane!
! On a side note, I am very sad to see Shalnark go! I understand why, but man…! -

Well, depending on your definition of genius, as you see everyone has their own perception of it. To be fair, I think calling Ging a genius is selling him waaaaaaaay to low. Ging is enlightened, the picture you posted plus what we saw before, his understanding of nen goes beyond genius, it is as he is one with nen. (Like he has his natural form of bandit's secret with strike type attacks) plus his other fields of expertise. Is Netero a genius, well he for sure is extremly and relentesly disciplined and hard working. Which was the whole point of him exceeding his human limitations. Gon a smart character? Hard to see, he has great intuition which lets him learn througj "flow". And I think talented undermines some of the characters, what is your point of comparison? A normal human? A standard hunter like the ones on Greed Island? Upper tier pro hunters like Morel or Novu? I think you are right in a way, all these talented characters use their expertise in their field to be the best. And the author has made a well enough job to make the world feel big enough, that even geniuses are nothing to be surprised by.

Genius is kind of a hackneyed term, but if it means anything, than most of the great nen users we've seen in the series are geniuses. The one defining trait that those who wish to define genius seem to agree on is that one takes a thing in their field and advance it in new ways. Ging may be the most refined nen user we've seen in the series thus far, but that doesn't make the others unrefined and unimpressive. #I'mwithhisoka

Earlier in this thread, I remember someone mentioned that Hisoka was able to fix his own arms all along, and Machi was basically hired as a cover to this ability of his during the Kastro fight.
Can someone explain this to me? Because I always thought it was the other way around. (He tricked people into thinking he could heal his limbs, but hired Maki undercover) -

(He tricked people into thinking he could heal his limbs, but hired Maki undercover)He wanted to trick the crowd into thinking he healed his arm mid fight, which he didn't, just used bungee gum to fasten the severed limb.
He wanted to trick the troupe that he didn't have the capability to heal himself through his own nen, thus hired Machi.

! And the whole thing was true and what really color me impressed is seeing Hisoka fans claiming that this turn of events ruin the character. The whole thing let to Kuroro winning the fight but not the deathmatch and wanting to have a second round but this time giving Kuroro less options of abilities he can borrow and angring him in the process. If any thing this is the best outcome, since the fight isn't technally over and Hisoka is on a killing spree.

! And how great of a ruse he pulled. Ruse Kastro into thinking you can heal yourself by Bungee gum and Texture Surpriese, them ruse the trupe via Machi that he can't by having her stich him up.
