Hiatus x Hiatus III: Goodnight, Sweet Princes

Screaming and crying
-
@Galaxy:
Hunter x Hunter will return April 18th, so not as early as some of us thought.

A month away isn't too bad. I wonder if it's possible there's already some created chapters, but they need polishing and finalization so he'll be a bit ahead.
-
I'll be super grateful if I never have to see that tit monster again.
Cant help feeling like the pot, with Togashi as the 4th prince.
!

Guess we might as well talk about the actual meat of the series in the meantime. Do you guys have particular favorite scenes or moments you would consider "iconic"?

When Killua and Gon are tailing Nobu and Machi, but then get caught by Phinks and Paku. I don't know about the manga, but that scene in the 2011 anime was suuuuper tense and I loved it.
-
Meruem's death ffs, never thought I'd cry to that bastards death.
-
I'm literally crying…my patience has been rewarded. Time to celebrate.
-
The Dodge Ball game, Gon vs. Hisoka Heaven arena fight, Uvo vs. Anyone.
-
Here are a list of my favourite scenes/moments from HxH
Welfin telling Meruem that he isn't his King and Meruem response to it (him agreeing and wishing him luck in finding Gyro) was simply beautiful.
Knuckle near 'death' moment and him contemplating why he is trying to save Shoot's pride in the first place.
Gon sacrificing his own arm when facing against the cheap Yoshikage Kira knockoff (Gentrhu,a.k.a the worst antagonist in this series).
Pakunoda sacrificing her own life when using her nen ability in order to inform her colleagues regarding the Chain user.
Gon and Leorio reunion.
Shoot becoming confident when facing against Menthu, blinding one side of his vision.
Welfin's paranoia.
Uvogin vs Shadow Beasts.
Bonolenov conjuring a Jupiter like sphere.Speaking of characters.. my favourite characters are Welfin, Chrollo, Morel, Knuckle and Leorio.
-
I hope we get to see Maha fighting, the old man was hyped being = Netero.
-
I can't wait :P
-
Guess I'm a grump. Everyone's happy and I'm already pre-annoyed by the next hiatus. Probably feel better after re-reading the last chapters.
@TLC:
For my opinion's worth, I think HxH has been a terrible series and hasn't been good since York Shin written by an author of a visual medium who substitutes visuals with massive super boring text logs which makes me question why he doesn't switch to writing novels.
Then have each book adapted into an anime season. I'm down with that.
-
I decided to start rewatching the anime then I'd pick up where the manga continues. But…Holy crap I forgot how annoying the 1st season end theme was lol.

Hah, yeah. It caught more off guard the first time I watched it but I've since come to love the part where Hisoka spits out more Hisokas.

For the record, TLC probably overblew the negative aspects of HxH out of proportion, and I wouldn't call it a shitty series. Overall, I'd say it's definitely a good manga. . .but I can see why it is a series that can be quite irritating. Like, it IS a pretty pretentious series, and Togashi's habit of being quite the smartass can be pretty irritating. He's also a special author though, in that not many shounen authors use his kind of narrative style, if any at all, so the same attributes that can make him irritating for some might very well be felt as charming and unique by his followers.
For example, I find myself irritated plenty of times by the ridiculously extreme lengths to which he's willing to take some of the most minute, secondary and "extra" stuff out there. Things that should carry 0 narrative weight suddenly take central stage in impossibly long and detailed monologues. . .and then are thrown away just like that. Like he just learnt something watching the news or reading a piece on a magazine about something he didn't know about previously and thought "man, I could totally share this knowledge with all my readers via HxH!". Can be charming at times and it's part of his personal style, but goddamn it. . .like, I sincerely hate the last 8-10 set-up chapters he did before the break. Can we call it the bureocracy arc? Cause that's what it was. It was a freaking "bureocrats talking!" arc. I wasn't even able to read them all, I gave up midway through.
He's also a victim of what I like to call "George RR Martin Syndrome", in that he has to break conventions and expectations no matter what and so he. . .ends up doing some convulted stuff with his characters. Like, it's not out of the realm of possibilities that Gon doesn't even appear again. The main protagonist. Or, as I said before, the way the villains were defeated during the Ant Arc. It's good to try and do unexpected stuff and don't always let the main characters win, or win by their own merits, or not give the audience a fight they might be thriving to see, or make an entire arc without a single fight in a battle manga, and. . .ok. But after a while I'm left a bit puzzled by his choices and his overall weirdness sometimes feels forced.
On the other hand, I was onboard with the vast majority of the polarizing Ant Arc, which I guess many find much more flawed than York Shin or Greed Island. It had some bad decisions (the flu taking the villains that the heroes couldn't defeat on their own, Killua's potential character development being shrugged off as "oh, I had a needle planted on my head by my brother, I'm actually perfectly fine!", octopus vs. shrimp. . .), but it also had some incredibly ominous scenes that I still find really powerful to this day. Pitou cradling Kaitou's head, Gon trying to embrace Kaitou's dead body acting like a puppet, his burst of anger when he found out he had been toyed with, that portal guy suffering a nervous breakdown just from feeling Pitou's presence, etc. . .tons of very, very powerful scenes. And yeah, the action was top notch stuff. I remember that scene with the sniper shooting ticks at Killua from a distance, which was the octopus guy controlling a human, and then they ended up in a cave with I think sharks or something, and then those super weird Darts guys appeared. . .really great stuff. Cause Togashi is actually pretty damned good at doing action scenes, which is why I find it so puzzling that during the Election Arc he decided to completely disregard action scenes almost in their entirety.
Wathever happens next, and at risk of sounding like your typical "shounen battle monger", I do sincerely hope we get to see some action and some good ol adventure. Or some fun, at least. Another 6 chapters of Gon's father trying to convince those weird guys to accept money from him is not something I wish to seat through again, honestly. . . . . .please. . . . .

Bad translation sure didn't help it. ended up just reading words without thinking. Sort of like when you study something boring and your mind wanders away.
Even now, I only have a vague idea of what's going on with this expedition.

Viz announced the dub cast of the 2011 anime
Erica Mendez as Gon Freecss
Christina Vee as Killua Zoldyck
Matt Mercer as Leorio
Keith Silverstein as Hisoka -
HxH coming in a cinema where i live…
I probably won´t go see it, but at least it´s nice that globalization makes this possible for me ^^ -
So glad to be back.
When Hunter x Hunter was on hiatus I thought I could wait forever for it to return but now a date is set and it seems so far away. It's kind of frustrating.
-

requiem
16charssssss

For real? When is it scheduled to come back?
Or has the hiatus begun before the thing even started? -

-
Aah man, I just want to see Kurapika and Leorio again.
-

ofc….
also timezones r fun....
-
Always odd to see hunter return from hiatus
I'm not really all that intrigued by a new world arc, not against it or anything, I guess it would've been odd to go back to something more grounded and less spectacular after the ants and nanika elevated the sense of danger to a new level, but I honestly would've been okay with something less grand, an arc centered around Meteor City and Gairo as the finale
Really interested what Togashi's gonna do with Gon. I wouldn't put it past him to have the balls to just let him be without nen for the rest of the series, but he did mention that Gon and Gyro are fated to meet eventually and assuming that meeting will lead to some sort of conflict, I would be hard to resolve that without nen being involved.
Unless that page teased something completely different and things won't get violent at all, which is hard to imagine as Gyro has all the marks of a future villain. -
Obviously it'll all be decided with an actual game of rock, paper, scissors. Just like the start of the series.
-
I think there is no other manga that I reread as often as hxh because of all the breaks I keep forgetting what previously happened. It's getting boring.
-
"One Punch-Man" x "Hunter x Hunter" by Yusuke Murata lol
-
Omg that is brilliant lol
-
Mega LOL! The dream of all bald men also.
-
I'm not totally sure this is true, but:
#HunterXHunter is going to be on #Toonami NEXT Saturday. We are soooo ready!!! @shonenjump
April Fools! #HUNTERXHUNTER comes out April 16th on #toonami not next week #totallynotatypo
I'm not totally sure which part is supposed to be a joke, but from what I understand they said next Saturday by mistake and then jokingly said that was not a typo and it actually is coming on the 16th.
Hope they release a trailer or the first episode online. I'd like to hear all the voices.
-
Kura and Gon sound pretty good. Kill sounds a little high not sure about him yet.
-
Killua just straight up sounds like a girl. I need to hear a bit more, though. The one word from Gon seemed fine, though.
-
This post is deleted!
-
I wonder if Togashi could even sit down and write out the current arc's story to the end before developing an extremaly rare untreatable medical condition know only to the public as Hiatusia Dyslexia
-
New Interview with Togashi:
If somebody could do the favor of translating, even if just the most interesting tidbits would be fine. -
yes PLEASE this is important. Translate
-
I saw a few parts of this very interview on Twitter. There's a moment where he says that "he is healing", and that he'd like to run a "marathon". Still has to be confirmed, though.
-
Dragon Quest Marathon inbound.
-
@The:

Killua has a female voice actor she is not even trying to hide it also that is just 2011 version dubbed which is 5 years old lol.

So? It was great and hadn't been dubbed yet. No one thought it was a brand new series. I'm really happy it's getting dubbed, since I prefer to watch dubs over subs.

I am just surprised they took so long to dub it i hope they take the censored parts out of the 2011 version e.g Killua taking that murder guys heart out is shown in a bloody bag in the 2011 version while 1999 version has him holding his heart then putting his heart into his hand lol.
-
What….? Why would a localization company go through all the trouble just to make something _more_ violent?
-
@Purple:

It would not be making it more violent since it would actually be true to the manga and the 1999 version that is not as censored that would be the same as people saying the 4kids one piece is better then the current one piece dub that is not as censored lol.
They should not even be making a anime version if they're just going to censor the hell out of it lol.
It would be like them censoring your name to purple thing since they think hermits are a bad thing but the name of the anime show would be called purple hermit lol.
-
Yes, but… what...? Why would a localization company go through all the trouble just to make something more violent?
Literally more effort to redraw scenes that were already animated very well just so you can say to your American audience that you're being more "faithful" even when its viewership probably won't make it worth the trouble and the anime is already critically acclaimed by fans of the series? Like seriously, why?
-
That's… not possible....
It was censored in Japan because, yes, Japan actually DOES have some rules about what you can show on TV, and they've actually gotten stricter than they used to be. For example, you can't show kids smoking on TV, so Sanji in One Piece is stated to be a few years older than in the manga so he's not a "Kid" when smoking.
Manga is allowed to get away with more than anime, it's just a fact you can't get around, so you can't expect every anime adaptation that isn't an OVA or a feature film to perfectly emulate this stuff. There are the rare moments where they plan ahead and uncensor the material on home video. If the Japanese home video market got an uncensored version, then the dub will definitely use that version. That's happened with a few animes, notably Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, where the TV version is one way, and then they modify it when it comes out on DVD/Blu-ray in Japan, and the US Release copied it.
But if it was that way on DVD/Blu in Japan, expect it to stay that way. The US licencor is not going to heavily edit the video of an anime to make it MORE violent... they're going to, at best, present it faithfully to what the Japanese version was.
You can basically expect what we get in the HxH dub to match the Japanese home video release. -
That heart scene was basically the only scene I can recall being actually changed slightly and not shadowed out in the 2011 version. You still get the gore of it. It's such a nit picky thing. You still get scenes of decapitations, faces being bitten off and all sorts of other horrific imagery.

Pretty sure he said last time around (or the time before?) that he planned to do a marathon then too. Totally didn't happen.
@sanji''s_dad:

It was an expensive license to get for a fairly lengthy series, it takes time to set up that sort of deal. Especially for television airing.
i hope they take the censored parts out of the 2011 version
As everyone has said, they're not about to redraw something… and that anime wasn't super censored to begin with.
Dragon Quest Marathon inbound.
Seriously, can we come up with a new joke? I know we all need to vent about the hiatuses but… can we at least get new material that hasn't been said over and over for the last 8 years?
