My main takeaway here is just how much more vague the timeline is than I expected it to be. I'd love to see Hori chart out a bit more exactly how long quirks have been a known factor, when AFO rose up and how long it took society to go from fear to acceptance to embracing of superpowers. My mental image of the glowing baby was of it being born in a relatively modern hospital, but that either has to be wrong, or it turns out technology hasn't progressed greatly in a long time in Hero Aca world (maybe because quirks picked up the slack that big tech breakthroughs used to). I don't think we even know what year the story's meant to be set in.
I'm sure he's keeping it vague on purpose so he doesn't write himself in any corners, but this is the kinda stuff I really love learning about.
Well, in regards to technology, it was brought up than in-universe there's a famous quote that goes something like 'If it wasn't for the appearance of quirks, man would already be capable of interstellar travel'.
I think that the general assumption is that it's set in the future, but a future whose progress was greatly delayed thanks to the chaos caused by the appearance of quirks, resulting in it looking pretty much like the present tech-wise. Basically Horikoshi is having his timeline cake and eating it too so he can have futuristic stuff like the U.A robots, but otherwise keep the setting as 'our world but everyone has superpowers'.
