I just want this arc to end, I would agree with the sentiment that these last two chapters could've been one tbh
My Hero Academia II - A true Hero

Last two chapters could be one without a problem.
! So what does Hellboy want exactly? His right hand of doom back? To tell Deku the quirk reached a point where he can access the previous users quirks? To have a new buddy to drink with the skeletons?

! I think those that are disparaging Ururaka in this chapter/fight are selling her well short, as she’s the only one to have taken charge of the situation and crafted an effective (yet easy) response to BerserkerDeku. Having coolly assessed the situation and coming up with an effective plan is something that, like, half the classes sucks at right now.
! I honestly don’t know what y’all were expecting. -
! Floatie not being about money(for her parents) feels weird to me. A big thing was how she felt inadequate because other students were there for idealism while she had more materialistic motivation.
! ASide from that her actions themselves are good. She's the only one that seems to understand they are not playing anymore. -

! I honestly don’t know what y’all were expecting.! I frankly don't see her actions as anything to really write home about. And the mini flashback or w/e was not random per say, but felt a tad unnecessary, but I've been feeling that way about several of MHA's flashbacks as of late.
-
! I think something to note is that Floatie's motivation haven't been changed. In the current flashback she says that "it is a given" in the sense of heroes idealism. Which stays true to her materialistic goal.
-
! Lol Uraraka told someone else to do something. Truly the stuff of impressive heroics right there.
-

! Lol Uraraka told someone else to do something. Truly the stuff of impressive heroics right there.
! She assessed that Deku wasn't doing something on purpose once she spoke to him. She has no real way to make him stop other than launching him into orbit. Which he would probably counter anyways. Using Shinso is a reasonable call.
-
! Uraraka's motivation couldn've been explained better. Maybe reference her wanting money and piggyback off that into the current reason why she chooses to make money as a hero. Either way, her backstory felt like padding here. 100% agree with Horikoshi taking time off and/or putting him on Oda's schedule.
! If we're going with the past user quirk theory, I want to know why Deku's getting #6 instead of Shimura's quirk. Unless she's quirkless too. Given Hori's keeping 3 and 2 a mystery I guess he's going backward. If not a quirk, I want Deku to learn a fighting move from Nana. Let's give her something more than Shiggy's Grandma/All Might's teacher. -
! I really wish Horikoshi would talk a long break, even the fact this chapter is just called Successor(Continued) is a bit worrying. Kinda makes it seem like this was initially meant to be a single chapter like everyone's been feeling. I've been pretty happy with MHA this year but there has been times where it's clear the disgusting workload a successful mangaka has is taking its toll.
-
Every fucking author should be on oda's schedule. This week was a mess all around, I want to blame mangastream, but many things are product of too much to do, and too little time.

Pariston_hill has exactly the right idea. This should’ve been all one chapter and just give the author a solid NYE vacation.
-
Hori really needs a little hiatus to rest, may it be a month or two without working, it´s not normal to get so many short chapters. I don´t want him to end with serious health problems that could have been avoided.
His art quality has actually improved so I dont think he's overworked right now but yeah Id rather he be on the oda schedule

! I don't care if you use big fancy words like assessment to make it sound impressive, after last week's cliffhanger and the buildup of her character in this chapter to get you excited that she was going to do something really cool and drastic after about two hundred chapters of neglect, for all of that to amount to being her doing nothing but ask Shinsou, the bland nothing whose only here because he's a fanpoll favorite character, to steal her big moment is just terrible and insulting. Nothing about what she did was impressive or something that only she could do. Literally anyone could have looked at Deku and gone "hey Shinsou, do something!" Shinsou could have taken the initiative and done it himself without anyone doing anything. This is just Horikoshi giving Ururaka scraps from the table because he knows he should be giving Ururaka SOMETHING to do because she's technically the female lead but doesn't know what to do. It doesn't even make much sense that Uraraka gets this moment since she has never been the analytical type character. But oh wait, she's a girl and she loves him and all girls have that special psychic power of knowing when their man is in danger I guess because Horikoshi is completely at a loss what to do with Ururaka's character and doesn't know how to write her anymore except in ways that revolve around her love for Deku, strong female character writing right there.
! Yeah lol and people call Oda sexist, Oda gave a secondary minor character a whole chapter to have a cool transformation sequence into a werewolf and wreck shit up, it's been about two hundred chapters since the tournament arc and this is the best Horikoshi could do? Give me a break. -
It's not a TLC complaint unless it's inane and unreasonable (as usual).
-
! I feel like one of AP "Woman portrayal" resident complainers and I am always willing to voice how annoyed I am with Horikoshi and MHA for that. And yet I have no problem with Uraraka in this chapter*. She was the only one who was not totally overwhelmed and just stood there like a sitting duck watching things unfold. She took action, took the lead and took control of the situation in a matter of seconds.
If she used her own superpowers or somebody else's to control Deku feels irrelevant to me.
! But I agree with the previous complaint about Shinso trying to figure out what to say to Deku, I actually laughed with cringe at that. I mean, he wants you to brainwash him. Just say "Hey" so he can answer "what?" and that's enough. -
How is "assessed" a big word?:wassat:
I feel like you're greatly over reacting for this chapter.
! What could she have done exactly? What she did here was the smart thing to do. I give her props for that. Yeah she's not overly analytical but she has been shown to understanding of the people around her. And to also learn how to look at the bigger picture during these situations. It's not that far fetched she decided to use Shinso. Who is also supposed to be getting screen time here. This arc isn't solely about her.

! Were we reading the same thing?
-
! I think I get what he's saying. Uraraka did do something useful, but it wasn't amazing. It was good, but it wasn't necessarily a moment that earned that backstory. Her saving Deku could've worked just as well without it. Its kind of like this arc. There's so much potential wasted. It wasn't horrible, but I expected more than what I got.
-
! A more flashy way of helping him woulda been nice. Or rather. For Deku's quirk to go outta control towards the end of the match so the others had a chance for screen time. But well who knows where this will go after this chapter. I don't find it to be the worst thing ever.
Mostly Unrelated. My MHA oc for my friend's campaign is coming out better than I could have hoped for. Blue Dragon sea slugs are amazing and offer up some fun designs ideas lol. I'm having fun drawing him. I keep coming up with variations.

When you're posting art stuff like that, it helps to say what it is you're hiding under the tag.
Also, you can use [ hide] instead of [ spoiler].
Also the forum auto sizes large images so you probably didn't need to hide it at all.

Vigilantes chapter 45 is out
! Been a while since we saw bee girl, almost didn't recognize her with the ponytail. Nice that Knuckleduster and Tsukauchi's boss know each other. I'm a bit confused whether or not Knuckleduster knows that speed villain. Guess there's no reason for KD to lie about it but I thought evil guy was his old sidekick. Maybe Reverse Flash only admired Knuckleduster and wanted his quirk. If so, how does AFO play into all this? There can't be another person or drug that takes and passes quirks. That'd diminish AFO's role in the main series. The guy has to be the one pulling all the strings.
! Also, screw you Knuckleduster for still not visiting Koichi. Stop acting like the proud papa. You're a deadbeat dad. -
! Well shit, that's a twist.
-
! Horikoshi, what you doing bruh
-
! Maybe he went online and read that people were bitching on how Deku is a one lane guy and his powers don't have much room to showcase creativity.
That he might had fucked it up by making him a nerfed OPM so here he is redeeming the character by making him the last airbender.
Yeah this spells all kind of bad and editorial decisions all over it.
Maybe five years down the road we will look back on this chapter and go this is the chapter where BnHa joined the likes of narutard and blfeach -
Damn, what a weird direction to go. Was not expecting this, and was not even sure it is needed. Definitely opens the door up to a TON of theories, so that'll be fun for the eternity of MHA. Hopefully each of the powers is unique, and not too OP because I thought Deku was good as he already was.
Really curious to see why All Might never experienced this
-
! And Deku enters the list of those main characters who are all over the place because they need to have everything. Naruto and Ichigo welcome you.
! Now I don't know if I want Horikoshi to take his time with each new quirk and only present a new one once in an eternity or just rush and show all of them because, as long as we don't know each quirk OfA carries, it will be impossible to see any circumstance Deku finds himself in as a threat, as he can always pull a new ability out of his ass that will perfectly address the situation in question. -
! Well, this is something that I wasn´t expecting, mostly because Deku didn´t really need a power-up. One for All as All Might used it was one of the strongest quirks and Deku´s version was going to be even stronger without the six new quirks. In the end One For All ended being just like All For One, with the difference that it takes a lot more time to use the "stolen quirks", that it gives the higher tier of superstrenght, also boosts the inherited powers themselves and that it traps the very souls of the previous users. If on top on that those quirks have good sinergy (like AFO´s stolen ones), then Deku will eventually become a monster scarier than AFO.
! I like that he will be able to talk with all the previous users, but I am not happy about his quirk evolving like this, unless Deku can´t actually take advantage of that because it will end becoming impossible to control or because his body can´t take it. There is also the part about Deku having to explain because his superstrenght suddenly has six new and different quirks unrelated to it, All Might had it easier to cover it up.
! The chapter itself is fine and enjoyable, but it scares me what can come of those powers. Aizawa not stopping the match is fine, as long as he stays there to make sure they don´t kill each other by accident. -
! My two cents are that maybe Deku’s body will never be strong enough to go 100% on force without shattering.
So the quirk itself adjusted to the situation allowing him to tap into the predecessors quirks.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

! Gut reaction-not a fan. Horikoshi has done a decent job so far of quirks having drawbacks so this doesn't mean instantaneous op Deku but honestly I can't say I like this.
-
! We 'Flame of Recca' now.
-
! Wow Horikoshi, way to undercut the careful deliberate growth of your protagonist with this bullshit.
! And they're really just continuing the test? Aizawa is the worst fucking teacher. -
Damn I wonder why the author felt the need to lean on such a cliche trope. The story was just fine as it is and now I can't honestly see this adding anything of value to it.
What an odd blunder
-
! Katsuki's going to stroke out when he learns about this.
-
! I'm honestly surprised people are surprised this happened. It's been a theory for a while that tapping into the other quirks could happen.
! But the difficulty now is explaining why All Might only seemed to have speed and strength. Was he only using 2? Well 3 if one was body bulking? Will Deku just be the 1st to use 6…But why only 6? What's up with those 2 that got shadowed out?
! 2 things about this I don't like. This happening within his first year. And how the power scaling will work for his classmates. I feel like that quirk upper drug will reappear and be more of a permanent thing. -

Apparently this is a case o quirk singularity occurrence that has been talked about when Todo and Kacchan impressed the pre-schoolers as part of their training to attain the license.
OFA finally reached a generation where this second capability could be used.
! And Toshinori didn’t had access to anything but the strength enhancement. He was already a bull of a man when graduated UA. The only thing he can inform Deku is about Nana’s quirk.
After all of the 9 users, Toshi and Deku were quirkless, and the first one had the give-my-quirk-away quirk that fused with the strength stockpile. So only 6 users had quirks of their on.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

! Geez, so much pessimism in this thread.
Has anyone else thought of the possibility that these developments present the opportunity for Deku's fighting style to become more interesting.
If I were in Horikoshi's shoes: Each of the quirks will very simple in function and power, and their power was low enough to keep the original users as somewhat inadequate heroes (or not be able to become heroes at all). Hence their need to take on OFA.
However, in the hands of Deku these quirks can enjoy much more versatility by ways of Deku's stratagems, the boost in power by OFA, and their combination with the super strength and with each other. -
! its not pessimism its justified to be cynical.
He knew what he was going into when he made the mc child superman at the start and it is damning there's a great possibility that he ran out of creative ways to utilize super strength besides partitioning it into parts.
Foreshadow or not, this feels like straight up bs to me.
Dc had Superman and that has been running for decades and there has always been a struggle to utilize supes strength in creative ways.
There's no way this shit was planned in anyway and calling it out as it is should be perfectly fine. -
! I think you could make an argument for this having been the author's plan from the beginning. The first user of One for All had a quirk that let his quirk be transfer to another person. When he got the quirk that allowed for the stockpiling of power, it merged with his quirk creating something new. A quirk that can be transferred and that stockpiles power. One way to look at a quirk is power. In that since it would make sense for a quirk that stockpiles power to store quirks. Adding on to the fact that because of the other half of the original quirk combination, is that quirks can be transferred willingly. It doesn't seem a huge jump for the users of One for all to willing give their quirks to the power to strengthen it.
! I am not really saying anything new there. Other people already made those points long ago, but given the current chapter proves the validity, it does suggest that this was the plan all along. The author is a fan of comics. Many of the most powerful characters have more than one power. Superman for instance is a prime example of that. Wonder woman might be another good example. Actually taking that into account, you could start to make some comparisons with DC superheroes. Specifically the Big 3 with Deku, Bakugo, and Uraka… Not perfect, but interesting none the less. -

Uraraka? You mean Todoroki right…
-
! It's a quirk about stockpiling power and we knew the predecessors were around since we had Deku free himself from BrainwashingBoy. So that he can tap into there powers didn't surprise me. I was hoping they would never factor in but I don't think it is surprising.
! I still don't like it at this point since it is the first time Deku was actually in control and seemed on the road to grow organically with his fellow student rather than constantly be out of control. The fight with PlasticAir was a good example of that. I don't like going back to the well of Deku being a complete noob and a wild card. I need Deku to be a growing hero not a ticking time bomb which he will once again be.
! Also I think 2-3 abilities should have been the upper limit. 6 is just overkill. -
! Superman powers differs over the decades depending on necessity. He is the pinnacle of superheroes and pulls out shit like time travel or whatever deus ex machine necessary to continue the story.
! From the start the rules for superman was rather clear cut, he had a variety of powers : flight, laser eyes, etc.
The God tier asspull powers comes in when his limited powers were not able to solve a solution or mildly putting it : the writers weren't able to use their current arsenal to solve a problem hence the necessity for the solution to be a new power.
! My Hero Academia setting is almost the same. The rules were defined from the start and the intention of the author seems clear.
A weak underdog character striving to be the best hero, going up against the best.
The rules of the world were properly laid down too:
One person per quirk, exceptions you get someone with two quirks and even that takes a lot of immoral decisions and effort.
The one anti thesis to this rule that makes him so exceptional is AfO. Which is why he is the big bad.
! Now here's why this move by the author is, while commercially smart and fits into "its his plan" narrative with enough justification, is still bullshit.
The author has repeatedly portrayed All Might as All might because of his insane strength.
! He is the pinnacle, the Superman of their world.
But this superman was never stated to have laser eyes or black whips.
Or any knowledge of it for whatever reason.
The argument to this is that hey Deku is the chosen one and only he could do it!
So our story(intention) has transited from our underdog protagonist (which at this point is not even one anymore but let's keep that) to the "chosen one".
Am I overanalyzing this because poor Deku would need a shitload of hard work to use them all am i right?
Yeah no way any reasonable anyone believes that because while the characters of the world strive hard to master their powers in possibly an entire lifetime, you know our chosen one is going to be able to use them all with a fraction of that effort.
Might be too early to judge but this seems really familiar to a certain ninja Jesus manga.
! Your entire narrative starts to collapse the moment you break your own rules repeatedly.
If you do it once or twice with exceptions : Todoroki and AfO, your general reader will find it pretty cool.
Repeating that without limitations? The chance of your setting going haywire is now pretty high.
! About OfA and AfO. OFA, He is "One" and the main villain is "All". It's not a matter of AfO is still terrifying because he have infinite quirks but poor OfA has only 6 so he's still an underdog and we are supposed to roll with it.
! The comparison with Superman here is that : whether Horikoshi planned this from the start doesn't change the fact that he ran out of ideas to utilize Deku's powers so he had to pull new ones whether it is out of his " profound foreshadowing and planning" or simply because he saw an opening and leapt at it.
! TLDR: Ran out of creative ways to hulk smash so instead of cracking his head and work with what he has, just bring in new shit.
! I can't exactly blame him but it doesn't stop me from being spiteful and disappointment.
! Forgive me if I'm coming off as overly critical but every single fucking time a shounen does this kind of bs the plot and power levels go the hell out of the window. -
! I'm curious on how they'll justify Deku with a completely new quirk to all the other students especially in class A. If this had happened in a private training session with him and 1 other person it would be on thing but suddenly gaining a second quirk? No way the other students won't start questioning.
-
! If Hori just wanted a to make Deku's fighting style more interesting, he could have just had Mei whip up some new tech for him. It's not like tool-using Heroes don't exist (Shinsou and Aizawa being the most obvious examples). This feels like an unnecessary risk considering OfA was already one of the strongest quirks in the series.
! I think/hope Hori's intention is to use this as a way for Deku to learn more about the history of OfA and it's users, and by extension other bits of the series lore and backstory, since we'll probably get a chance to talk with all of them. But there are obvious risks to it. -
! I think it would be cool for Deku to not keep anything a secret anymore, and come out like Tony Stark did.
-
! I hope Hori is able of dealing with the six new powers in a good way, let´s wait and see. That said, I wouldn´t call Deku "Chosen one", he is basically the dude that got the power when it was a its changing point, he doesn´t have anything special that made those powers awaken. A little more foreshadowing on All Might´s part would have been nice though.
! In the end, I think that this may end being something bad for Deku, since his body may not be able of taking the stress of those powered quirks. Maybe One for All reached that point where quirks become so powerfull that can´t be controlled and destroy their own users. So maybe Deku will be the last OFA´s user. -
! Dekus old quirk made sugarman relatively worthless, wonder if his new quirk will do the same to Sero
-
! I'm in the wait and see camp for now, but I'm generally excited.
Look at Deku's air bullets. We've already seen him using something other than straight up speed or strength. This could work. I'm thinking of all this less like Superman and more like Batman, Deku using his gadgets/quirks in relation to One For All. That being said, it all depends on what quirks he gets and how he uses them. The whip quirk will probably be used as a lasso.
! Also, I like these new quirks will have to be mastered like One For All and force Deku to control not only his body but his mental state. This will take time and guidance from the previous users. This could also confirm Shiggy getting multiple quirks from AFO by the end of the series, a multi quirk final battle between the two.
! And, we can't forget Deku and Toshinori's relationship getting exposed now. Someone has to call Deku out on his quirk even if its only Bakugo. And that's just his classmates. If Aizawa doesn't demand Toshinori spill the beans to at least him and the principal I'll be really disappointed. -
! This could also confirm Shiggy getting multiple quirks from AFO by the end of the series, a multi quirk final battle between the two.
! That's a big reason I'm okay with this, yes.
If Shigaraki ends up getting multiple quirks himself, there's nothing dishonourable about evening the playing field.
