This game, despite it's godforsaken load times, is the very reason PS2 was meant to exist.
Dbz: Sparking
-
-
Hm. More good things I hear….was the single attack button any issue?
-
I dunno. I'm still in complete awe of manipulating characters in what is unquestionably the DB world. Infinite BG's a la Legends would have made it perfect but nevertheless, just amazing. IMHO Legends has always been the only DBZ game made worth playing because of how it recreates the insanity of the battles. This takes that to a completely new and wonderful level. A few minutes ago I WAS Kuririn training with Yamucha at Kami's Palace, destroying the grounds, lifting up debris with my ki, and seemlessly falling off and battling in the sky thousands of feet above the earth.
Amazing.
-
Man, I've been looking forward to this game for a longass while… Tao Pai Pai! Motherfucking Tao Pai Pai! And Muten Roshi! Two of my favorite characters, finally I can kick ass with them! I can't wait until Wednesday... Yes, I'm stuck with the US version, BUT it has JPN voices included, and it looks like they're keeping Tao Pai Pai's original name and not dancing around this "General Tao" junk. The main setback of the US version is that they're using old Budokai music... but oh well. I don't have a modded PS2.
This game looks like so much fun, even if most fighting is done with 1 button. I can't wait to kick everyone's ass with Tao Pai Pai.
-
It's not a normal fighting game. There's a helluva lot of strategy to it and most of it is way to fast for me at this point, but not impossible. I never played any other current gen DB game but I feel nothing lost. It's exactly like a Legends that went Super Saiyan 4.
And the BG music. Holy-freaking-crap. Flashbacks!
OH!!! HAHAHA!!! This is funny. Shows how long since I watched DB. I'm listening to Kuririn and saying to myself:
"DAMN! Where have I heard that?" ^O^!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Another thing I like is the extent to which Spike went to make certain characters have advantages, but still make everything fairly balanced (unlike in the Budokai games, in which there were countless seemingly "incomplete" characters with only 1 or two specials and no ultimate).
-
you guys are lucky u have a ps2. also the us version has a japanese option eh… hmm. (now i defiently want a ps2 for xmas. =D)
-
The BG music is different in the US version I heard. The JP music is amazing. It's all the original BG music from the TV show. Craaazy
-
So wait, Sparking is like Legends on the PS1?
Yes or No will be fine.
-
Argh, that sucks. The US version gets a Japanese voice option, but a bland rock soundtrack. Where it hurts the most, in the game with "We Gotta Power!"
I think my main concern was the the angle. Is there a lock on or anything?
-
I wasn't even aware that it's coming out this Tuesday, and it has the fucking Japanese VA's! I'm so amped.
-

Well, it's not as simple as yes or no. It's in-between. It's a real fighting game. Legends was not. However, Legends was the only game that through backgrounds, # of characters, options, attacks, etc. actually recreated a DBZ battle.
This game does the same.

There's a lock-on that's cool as hell. It's Z Search of something where your character actually looks or tries to sense the opponent. And when they find them. Oh man, the sound effect…I won't spoil it.
-
I'm getting the JP ver. in like a week. I'm excited as all holy fuck. Especially when I heard about the BGM.
-

Then I'm getting my money together. Thank you.
-
Note: I have been raped by stage 3 Freeza and above. My thumbs hurt much and the load time is killing me but I still wanna play. The sign of a good game.

Oh God… crosses fingers for flexitone
-
This game is gonna kick-ass. Me, I can't stand that Jap voices but I'm glad they included the option to keep everyone happy.
-
How can you stand Sean Schemmel's nasal jew screaming as Goku? He's an awful voice actor
-
at least he doesnt sound like a freakin kid. argh sometimes japanese goku pisses me off.
-
It fits Goku's personality, though.
-
as his normal mode yes as his super sayian mode i dont think so. tho i do wish this game came out for the gamecube too
-
at least he doesnt sound like a freakin kid.
I was never under the impression the Goku grew up.
Anyone who can do three different voices, for three different characters, all speaking in the same conversation without any edit cuts instantly owns with a vengeance anything that was offered in the steaming pile of crap which was DBZ's 3rd Season and beyond in the US.
Seasons 1 and 2 depsite the heavy edits were fine examples of DAMN good dubbing. One of the best.
-

Seconded. Ocean Group = The Best. I love them Canucks.
-
I'm up to the Freezer arc. I can't believe this game really exists. It feels like it's a dream. There have been a few other Dragonball games that I loved, but this one takes the cake. I get the feeling that I really am in the Dragon World.
-
I finished everything (except Brolly) up to the Buu saga. That's gonna take forever….
-
argh this game came out today in the us. why dont i have a ps2 ;-;
-
I got the game today, but so far have only had time to play 2 missions (Goku and Piccolo vs. Raditz). So far the fighting is really fun but will definitely take a lot of getting used to. I liked how in that one mission they seriously beefed up the Makankosappo's power to simulate the deadly effect it had on Raditz (it only takes 2 to kill him).
Man, I miss the original BGM. The Budokai music they crapped into this one is so generic. But the first thing I did when I turned the game on was to turn the Japanese VAs on. So I'm happy.
I can't wait to unlock Tao Pai Pai…
-
Best part about the game are the profiles for Tien and Chaozu.
Apparently, Tien is a descendant of aliens and Chaozu is a vampire. I wish I was kidding.
That random moronity aside, this game kick all kinds of butt. Strangely enough, Burter is my favorite character to use so far.
-
Well, actually, Chiaotzu's design is indeed based on a Chinese vampire and Tenshinhan is in fact listed as an alien in the Japanese guide.
-
Tenshinhan is an alien? That's…. weird as hell.
I unlocked Tao Pai Pai! Though they call him "General Tao"... ugh.
Burter's pretty fun to use because he's FAST AS HELL.
Fucking Saibaman. Took me forever to beat him with Kuririn.
-
I picked the game up today, and man.. does this take some getting used to. I think I'm finally starting to get the hang of it, but certain fights were just frustrating at first, like training with Chiaotzu. All he would do is run as far away as possible and throw ki at me. Took me a few tries to learn how to properly deal with him.
So far I just beat the Tenshinhan vs. Nappa fight. Compared to the Goku fight with Nappa (which I did ahead of beating all of the other Nappa fights), these are freaking hard. He just does so much damage compared to what I can do back to him. At least I'm starting to get a good understanding of the system. And I have to say, I am loving every bit of it.
-
Wow….if you're having trouble with them I can't imagine how you're going to handle Freeza...
I dunno, three valuable techniques:
1. Block. Works surprisingly well in the "Survive" levels
2. Dragon Dash. Nice for getting out of the way at the start of the match and for wasting the opponent's ki.
3. Blast 1 just triangle. If you're fighting a fairly evenly matched opponent, this works amazingly well. Get the hell away and POUND them with this, then finish them off with whatever you need to.I've had no trouble using those techniques in such a way.
-
I think I'm having the trouble from being used to Budokai and expecting some of the mechanics from there to work here. I'm breaking out of that by now, though. I've gone back to all those training fights that gave me trouble and I can handle them so much better compared to the first time around.
Just finished up the Saiyan arc, so now it's time to move onto Freeza. We'll see how I fare, I guess.
-
curious when u go to japanese voice option in the us game does the text change to japanese too or not
-
All of the text is still in English if you switch the voices.
-
I finished off the Buu arc last night. I'm spent. You have to last against chibi Buu with Vegeta for 120 seconds! So far that has been the hardest match in the game. I'll probably end up finishing it off tonight, and then start on the other modes of play.
I don't know how I'm going to get that Dragonball in the Broly stage…..
-
The problem with the Dragon Dash is that a often use it on accident so i'll dash right into the enemy and they'll kick my ass, and sometimes I can't get it to stop in time. Guess I'll have to work on that.
I've been switching between Saiyan and Freeza, mainly to unlock all of the Ginyu Force. I've got them all, so I'll wrap up the Saiyan saga tonight.
-
Beat it. Tight game.
-
I got 100% on the fucking Freeza saga and you weren't kidding about 3rd form Freeza. What a goddamn nightmare. Cooler was pretty damn annoying too, but nothing a few Genki Damas can't fix.
I also got 100% on Saiyan, Brolly, and Cooler (ugh). I recently found out that that Brolly is voiced by Bin Shimada (AKA Foxy), so during the Brolly fight I got a few laughs from hearing the "Foxy" in his voice.
So far I'd have to say that Tao Pai Pai is my favorite so far. He's just… so awesome. It feels great to finally play as him.
Guess I'll start on Bardock, then go ahead to the Android Saga.
EDIT: another tidbit I found helpful in the Survive missions is the counter feature. End a combo with the guard button and you'll go into a stance and counter any hits that connect, often knocking the enemy away for a precious few seconds.
-
I recently found out that that Brolly is voiced by Bin Shimada (AKA Foxy)
REEEEEEALLY!!??? WOW! I'm hard to shock when it comes to VAs but THAT is a very pleasant surprise! He sounds so young as Brolly! DAMN! His work as Brolly in Movie 10 is amazing. I know it's basically just "KkkkkK!" but no one else can "KkkkkK!" like that! VERY cool find!
-
I still find it hard to believe that Foxy and Brolly have the same voice actor…..
On that subject,
Tao Pai Pai is voiced by Chikao Ohtsuka, who plays Gold Roger.
-
I thought it was pretty cool too because he's probably one of the last people I'd expect to voice a monster like Brolly.
While we're naming voice actors, Mr. Satan is done by Daisuke Gouri, aka Dorry and Heihachi Mishima.
Shen Long is voiced by Alex Louis Armstrong's VA, which is awesome because when I get 7 dragonballs it sounds like Armstrong has magically appeared to grant me an awesome wish.
Oh yeah, I also unlocked Muten Roshi.
-
Yeah, they're all easy to hear but Brolly and Foxy. Daaaaaaamn! Woulda never guessed. That's Wapol too right?
-
Yessir. Yessir it is.
Damn, I need to go back and watch those movies now.
-
Dammit,I want this game so bad.
-
Almost noon on Friday and the stores are saying shipments of it come in sometime tonight. What the hell.
I got UB22 to tide me over. I want my dollar back.
-
Ok I`ve got a moron question. How the hell are you supposed to beat Nappa in order to accomplish the stage? I mean I can´t use the attack that is needed to accomplish the stage, no matter how much I power up. What am I doing wrong? :molly:
-
You might not be locked onto him.
Or, if it's Chaozu vs. Nappa, you need a blast ball to be able to power up to Max Power mode.
This morning I completed the Android Saga, Future Saga (WTF was Gogeta doing there?!), and a few others. Bojack was a fucking pain. The two whatif Sagas I've played through so far were fun; in Freeza's it was fun to be able to utterly decimate everyone I fought against, and in the Saiyans' Revenge I had so much fun pummeling on Freeza with a Saibaman.
So far the best fight ever is Mr. Satan vs. Cell. That was awesome.
Majin Buu arc is going to take forever…
-
What do you mean with locked to him? Sorry if it sounds stupid but I´m not sure what that means. It´s the Goku vs. Nappa match where I have to use the Kaioken-attack (thats how they call it in german) on him. But even with max power up, this is the only attack that isn´t highlightened in the Skill-List, while even the Genkidama is. :molly:
And you guys must be truly good if none of you had problems with the monkey Vegeta in the Saiyan-saga. :adore:
-
Ohhh, you have to be in Kaioken mode to use that move.
