Chapter 899: The Last Stand
-
Morgans said he cannot fly.
-
Morgans said he cannot fly.
well in that case stussy can just bring him with her…being a cp 0 agent she is probably strong enough to geppou with him in her arms
why would she do that we don't know, but she seemed intrigued by the whole thing, maybe she just wanna see the consequences...we don't really know enough about her at this moment.
-
not much to discuss, that tongue is clearly real and not drew
It does look quite elaborate, though I’d say it is still speculation. Other than the face it looks rather bland.
-

there's plenty of shadows that indicate it being 3d and not a drawing..on the eyes and various parts of the tongue..also the tongue briefly obscures the border of the shield in that image, it would make sense only if it's indeed a 3d object obstructing the view
of course it might be 3d and still being just a decoration, but it would be quite a strange decoration.
-
Ok, who will save them next? Batman?
-
Well, Ceasar is still missing…
-
If that shield ate the ribbit ribbit fruit I'm going to be mad! Well if it's just model Bull Frog then ok. That means there is still room for model Tree Frog or Exploding Toad.
also it makes sense for them to intervene because cacao island is on the border of totland,so they are both escaping and helping them at the same time.
Oh I didn't realize that. The Sun Pirates popping up at the last second remind me of Merry, the allies at Saboady or Bentham at Alabasta. That final push to help the crew escape their obstacle. With the crew right at the border I guess this arc really will stop on dime. Or at least the Straw Hats direct involvement.
Perospero is certain the cake is laced with poison, will he be able to see the truth even after Big Mom goes to figurative heaven after eating it? I feel like most of the Big Mom pirates and citizens of her territory would actually be grateful for the cake. Though if they think there are traces of poison will there still be hostility despite a positive outcome? Positive relative to what could have gone further wrong of course.
I'm bummed that it's looking more and more likely that the crew won't witness the greatness of the cake but at least we'll get to see it and maybe get a quick or maybe even thorough view of the long term affects it's going to have on Linlin.
-

They could still hear about it at least, I noticed Mont D'Or is messaging everyone about what's happening.
-
Really big chap. Loved to see the Totland citizens. Read the chap on my phone the first time and somehow thought Carrot blocked Daifukus attack herself. Got pretty excited and then disappointed reading the truth in here, lol.
Speaking of Daifuku. I don't know why he and Smoothie acted so jolly and smug. Is it the fact that they are finally able to catch a single enemy ship, after hundreds of hours, with thousands of other ships? Is it the defeat of Katakuri? The utter destruction of Nuts? The crashed wedding? BM possibly dying? I bet it was sarcasm :D
-
Is Goldberg’s shield sentient (e.g. Devil fruited) or does it just have a face drawn on it? Discuss.
I think it might be a homie made by Mother Caramel ages ago. Or maybe a gift from Big Mom in advance of Lola's wedding.
-
I have to say, I really enjoyed this chapter.
It's nice to see that Perospero's loss of an arm is more serious than he'd been letting on. It has the dual effect of making Pedro's sacrifice more consequential and driving home just how dire he considers the situation the BMP have found themselves in, the latter being further supported by Peros's admission that their fate at this point is entirely reliant on how much Big Mom enjoys the cake.
On a related note, I'd been wondering how long it'd be before Stussy and Morgans bolted, and similarly how long before Mont d'Or realized that they were a threat to his ability to keep the story under wraps. I wonder what they're up to. I imagine Morgans is either on his way out of Totland to ensure he can get the Big News! out or heading to Puffs Island first to try for the "post mortem" scoop, but Stussy's a wild card. As a CP-0 agent, there's no telling what she could be doing to take advantage of the chaos.
For all the shade being thrown at Smoothie, I actually appreciate her tactical sense in ordering the fleet on standby around Cacao Island to cut off the Strawhats' escape route. And Daifuku seems to have developed a bit of a grudge against Carrot…rightfully so, but I'd think there would be more effective ways to damage the Sunny with his giant genie than going after the Rabbit Mink on lookout in the Crow's Nest, which makes me question his judgement at present.
The exchange between Luffy and Judge was perfect. Despite his words, I got the impression that Judge was less a man truly set in his worldview than one trying to convince himself he still was. The silent stare down between him and Sanji also gave me that impression, because with his right eye bandaged up, I couldn't help but notice how much father and son look alike (in a few shots at least). Might just be me hoping for some kind of positive resolution with the Vinsmokes for Reiju's sake, though.
And last, but certainly not least, it was charming to see the Sun Pirates show up to see their former captain off. I'm definitely looking forward to their return if/when we revisit Fishman Island.
-
What's that badass swordsman Fishman in their crew called?
-
All around solid chapter. I hope next chapter is nothing but Big Mom eating the cake. It's been built up for nearly 30 chapters, it deserves that much attention.
EDIT: Actually, one minor nitpick. I wish we got to see Capone's ship getting destroyed. It feels like he's rushing this climax more than he should.
-
Loved this chapter!!! His dad's question to luffy and luffy's response was great.
More evidence of Carrot Joining.More nice crew interactions.
I think it is the first time sanji acknowledged carrot's existence though.
Big Mom Pirates ensnaring them yet again was great and smoothie even got a hit on the ship.
Can't wait for whatever happens with 900 this arc is impossible to predict. -
I really think the guy in marines that makes Bounty posters made a bad typo in smoothie's poster and gave her one extra zero and her real Bounty is 93.000.000.Based on that bad typo, even BM made her a sweet commander, thinking she must of done something, while she away, to be so wanted.
-
How about next week big mom eats the cake including the people of puffs island:ninja:
-
@Long:
I think it is the first time sanji acknowledged carrot's existence though.
Nah, he asked about her and Pedro when he first returned to the ship, before Brook lied about what had happened to the latter.

Don't get the hate, at least for this chapter, not her fault the plot armor is so strong. Hilariously, she ended up coming the closest out of all the SC in terms of cornering the Straw Hats. Did a lot more than I expected, because I thought she'd be even more screwed trying to kill them while out at sea.
-
Deserter Goldberg, Oimo's younger brother?. Buggy is so cute to hold a grudge.
Yes, fly you fool! Morgans go get your scoop, and Pedro!, Although, Stussy capturing Pedro. Time is short, Peros is weakening, I guess it is now or never.
The miracle will happen, but what has me interested is the fact that it was the complete opposite. It seems no one will be there when she eats the cake. A parallel on how when you selfishly focus on getting what you want. It might even taste great, but you may end up alone. And obviously her childhood.
If Pudding is smart she is going towards the chefs to erase their memories of Sanji.
Aw, Bege is worried about the Straw Hats.
Jajaja, the need to talk shit and keep up his lie woke Luffy up. At least Smoothie can keep up with Jimbe in shallow waters.
Judge calling himself a weakling, while spouting all his nonsense beliefs was fitting. That small Jimbe panel, I thought he was going to go slap Judge for Sanji. Jimbe is right, these guys are the best.
Ay Daifuku has a problem, jajaja.
What a great way to welcome Jimbe to the crew. Oda is having fun with this one.

This is my personal canon now.

by the way, isn't wadatsumi way bigger than it was before in this chapter?
i know he can "puff" himself, but he seems "normal"in this chapter
-
What's that badass swordsman Fishman in their crew called?
Steve, the awesome barracuda merman standing behind Aladdin on chapter 899 page 19.

If everything goes as expected, Big Mom will probably be knocked unconscious from the cake's deliciousness. Dressrosa kept pushing the idea that Devil Fruits lose their effects when the user is unconscious (As seen with Sugar and Doflamingo). Maybe all of the Homies will lose their souls after this? This could even be the way Oda handwaves Pedro's survival (The life that Big Mom stole returns to his body).
EDIT: Thinking about this more deeply, I actually don't think this will happen because of one thing. Zeus. Oda seems to be setting up Nami as a Son Wukong parallel/copy (flying on a cloud with an extending staff). I don't think he'd take that away.
-
Big Mom feels more akin to Moriah, where she has to willingly cancel/return it. Otherwise there'd be a lot of Brooks out there in the world, since Pedro is not the first to get his lifespan stolen. Like using that logic, Zepo amusingly has a higher chance of being revived, since he died by having all of his remaining lifespan stolen, as opposed to Pedro who in this scenario would've died through an explosion. I dunno if Oda wants to open that can of worms. It's not the same as with Moriah, where people around the world simply got their shadows back, allowing them to live their lives once more. Additionally, that clause of lifespan not being able to enter a deceased body might apply even if the lifespan actually belongs to that person.
Anyways, it's weird that there really hasn't been any explicit text detailing what happens if she's unconscious. Moriah and Sugar both had their weaknesses detailed for us like halfway into their respective arcs. But with Big Mom, arc's almost over, and we're still left guessing the outcome…
-
All good points, and I just thought of another one. If Big Mom could cancel her powers, she would have already used them on Kingbaum back when she was chasing then through the Seducing Woods. So her being able to do that unconsciously would be inconsistent (then again, it's not like Oda has never had inconsistencies).
-
What if Goldberg is Brogy's kid. He looks somewhat similar. I loved Luffys reaction HILARIOUS! The last page brought joy to me for some reason. Morgan missing he. Interesting to see how the news are going to spread along the world with Stussy maybe tweaking it a bit.
-
What if Goldberg is Brogy's kid. He looks somewhat similar.
I doubt he's Broggy's son. Broggy and Dorry have been on Little Garden for more than 100 years, but Goldberg was mentioned alongside Road and Prince Loki as having been newborns during the time that Linlin was in Elbaf, i.e. ~63 years ago.
I don't pretend to know how long a giant pregnancy typically lasts, but I doubt it comes anywhere close to 37 years. Maybe Goldberg could be a nephew or cousin, or even a grandchild, but he's too young to be Broggy's son.
-
Steve, the awesome barracuda merman standing behind Aladdin on chapter 899 page 19.
What, is that really his name? He looks like he could really do some damage.
-
Does anyone know how Daifukus ability works?
Ok the Genie is defeated. Is Daifuku defeated?
-
How would we know lol

@.access:
Well, Ceasar is still missing…
That is the thing I'm most curious about. He was presented as one of the three main members of the alliance, made the poison rockets which failed, then flew away the strawhats from the falling castle and just disappeared.
He must have some other role left to play, especially since Oda could have used the germa bros for that escape if Ceasar wouldn't have been there. And the way he was dragged into the arc makes me hope it's going to be something big, I hope his role won't be purely situational just to make someone fly off again.
Until a few chapters back I thought that maybe he would still poison Big Mom after she fainted from the cake, but now even Bege seems to have given up on that idea. -

Fixed that for you.

Cesar's fate seems to be kept for a future cover story (wherr he and Brulée elope and run from BM :ninja:)
-
"doing this makes us look like we're bullying them"
doing what exactly, smoothie
what are you doing -
@Game:
"doing this makes us look like we're bullying them"
doing what exactly, smoothie
what are you doingSurprised them by surrounding them with a huge fleet that made even Jinbe worry, along with a giant genie right behind the Sunny. Thought it was obvious lol
-
Not so sure Caesar's in cover story territory quite yet, unless there's a short arc in between Totland and Wano.
Setting aside the "Kaidou wants his SMILES back" angle, he's known to have purchased some of Caesar's chemical weapons in the past, which means the Pirate-Mink-Samurai-Ninja-ETC Alliance might have need of Caesar's skills for the purpose of neutralizing them should Kaidou or his underlings go into full "salt the earth" mode.
To my mind, that gives a decent likelihood that Caesar will be involved in the war in Wano, whether he likes it or not. I wouldn't be surprised if he manages to escape Big Mom only to run straight into Jack or one of his peers.

I'm not sure if that's the case. How long was Buggy's torso separated from his head, hands and feet the first time they beat him? If he took even one nap during that time, he'd have died from being cut up. Same with Law's separating people's hearts from their bodies like Caesar Clown's. Some powers rely on consciousness, others don't. I think maybe Sugar's was unique because hers made it so she didn't need to sleep (or age) so a situation in which she would go against what her 'natural' state was would most likely be a way to disrupt her ability's effects. I don't think anyone else's abilities make it so they never need sleep. Otherwise I think just things that require concentration like Doflamingo's Bird Cage will be canceled by him being knocked out, but if he constructed a hammock out of his strings, they wouldn't just fall apart if he fell asleep in them since they're already just hanging there. The ones that are constantly moving and needing to be reinforced with Haki or whatever, don't have that luxury. At least that's how it seems. Plus if you consider that Crocodile doesn't need to be consciously aware of his impending damage in order to become unsolid, it stands that he probably can still be immune to damage if he's attacked in his sleep. As long as one trains oneself adequately. Or the same thing with Luffy's rubber defense.
And yes, I've been jonesing to see Nami doing a Flying Nimbus kind of cloud riding thing for ages. She's already the only one who can ride a waver, why not kick it up a notch for the New World with one that flies? I just never imagined it would happen as a result of what's going on now with a Yonkou and a DF ability and a manifestation of something that's sort of alive.
But anyway, best chapter in a long time. LuffY: "Huh? Why is he listing off all your best traits?" Jimbei: "Wahahahaha! You guys are the best!" I want a giant printout of that to hang on my wall.
Also, Carrot kind of dropped the ball big time as a lookout, doesn't anyone think? Is she just not strong in observation Haki? Wonder how that affects her chances of joining in that capacity.

Last Stand in Mariejois against Teach:
-Luffy: Pirate King, makes a lot of friends, plot armour
-Zoro: World's strongest swordman, cuts heaven and earth and sea
-Usopp: God, 90 billions of followers
-Nami: Sexy bitch that catched the most powerful pokémon ever, Zeus, like Dragon's display at Loguetown but x100
-Robin: Demon gurl, a woman of culture, hated by all the other cultured ppl
-Brook: Aokiji n°2, changes feelings thru music, has his own CoC, MVP all the way
-Chopper: Awakening at each 6 phases of Zoan, finally increasing from 100b to 1.000.000.000b
-Franky: Everybody knows that can make Pluton, hype over 9000
-Jinbe: The world's most known fishmen, he's there to make them loveable to the world again.-Sanji: Judge's description + can bake a cake
xDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
I couldn't stop thinking something like that, this chapter rly was a shame… like Oda used inverse psychology on his readers after seeing all the hate to "the year of sanji". That and Smoothie's comment, oh boy... fascinating, what a comedy this is.Besides like at chp 850 said that Fishmen will help... and now they appear, when i couldn't even stop thinking that all is futile thanks to plot armour... good job Oda, i guess.

Man, Jinbe has been rather disappointingly weak, am I right?
So in the beginning of this arc he goes up to Big Mom and requests to leave the crew, only to wuss out when he's given a big obstacle in doing so. Great start! Sure, it's only setup for when he will surely ultimately leave the crew in a blaze of glory, right? Well, he did attack Opera, and that was cool, but Opera was a weak wuss anyways. And man, his break-in would have been toast if Chopper didn't save him, it's been bumpy hasn't it?
Man, NOW he sticks it to Big Mom! That scene was absolutely well-done. But wait…that's it? Why he gotta dodge that attack from Big Mom? And now he's getting overwhelmed by tons of fodder? He's useless against Katakuri too, my god. I'm having second thoughts about his worth to the crew. I mean, he is a former Shichibukai, and so should be portrayed as strong as Zoro, who never seems to meet any challenges, right?
OK, I will hand it to him, that maneuver through the Green Room was pretty cool. But what's with all the running away? Surely he needs to solidify his strength against these hordes of Big Mom Pirates, so we can be sure he'll be of worth in the upcoming war against Kaido. Oh, look, he hit Big Mom! But he did get sent flying by her earlier, which, no matter how you look at it, means he's rather weak in the grand scheme of things. And don't get me started about just now when he gave up against Smoothie of all people and had to be rescued. What kind of helmsman is he? Honestly, if Jinbe is going to be worth it for the Straw Hats, he needs some sort of upgrade. Might I suggest Energy Steroids?
-
Frankly, I'd say poor Chopper was the least represented Straw Hat this arc.

It seems you are talking fighting abilities. Devil leg. Move freely in sea and air.I don't think he is as bad aas you portray him. He is also royal blood and possibly discovered a legendary sea.
Smoothie comment was indeed weird considering they have been chasing them for hours and are still failing but she pretends they are in control.

@Kaido:

Pass the sarcasm I don't think Jimbei has done enough to start disappointing people as much as Sanji in the fighting or character department. Sanji has been shown at disadvantage to important enemies for a couple arc while Jimbei barely arrived. Their isn't really an expectation there yet.

It was already mentioned that sleeping and being unconscious are 2 different things. That's why they had to knock sugar unconscious and not just let her sleep.

How can we take him seriously as a fleet admiral when he got knocked into a ditch by WB.

Is it sarcasm? lol in that case I missed it.
If we really think about it, Jinbe can be a great threat at the sea and sea battles, he just needs to go under the sea and fire those Kamehameha-like moves. I have always felt like Oda is holding back a lot on him. He can really be very OP. Unless against bad match ups like Aokiji, he should perform exponentially. Being behind the helm is restricts him even more.
The way I see it is that Oda is intentionally holding back when it comes to Jinbe. He can easily become one of the strongest in the world of OP if the battles involve waters.
-

Oda is holding back on everyone, that's why even Luffy's moves and transfomations are relatively tame (mostly old attacks with some black haki thrown in and minor visual adjustments).
He has to treasure the really juicy ideas for the big 1 vs. 1's against the beast pirates, Blackbeard and big war. -
I agree. But I think it is more appearent in Jinbe, even during the war. Looking farward to seeing a serious Jinbe fight and Sanji before him:ninja:
-
Jinbe's death theoryis getting more probable after this chapter. Oda needs to kilk a likeable character to serve as a reminder how terrifying a Yonkou is and that'm is definitely nit Pedro. Besides, Oda has brought in the Sun Pirate to the arc, which will maje Jinbe's demise more dramatic and heart-wrenching
-
Can't tell if serious.
-
Man I think chapter 900 is going to be full of bowing to future pk luffy, bm is gonna become an enormous sanji fan and it will all go well, or she'll want to pursue him. Judge is gonna sacrifice himself me thinks or pledge germa to luffy. Regardless it will all be glorious!!
-
Perospero really drove the point in this chapter that the continued exitence of the Big Mom Pirates is solely due to Sanji's cooking ability. The only reason Totland will survive is because the guy can bake.
