It has most likely to do with the concepts of Jujutsu in this series being closely tied actual Japanese beliefs. I was dating a girl who went full in deep geek when explaining to me how it ties to Shintoism IIRC? In the same vein Gojo and Okotsu tie in to real historic monks of significance. Sorry if that's all a bit wishy washy but the conversation was 100% Japanese and my level is nowhere near as good to remember or fully understand every little detail of that conversation. But the strong connection to Japanese culture and beliefs I definitely could get out of the conversation. Might be why for a Japanese audience this chapter feels more self explenatory while a western audience is left a bit wondering.

Is the February 2018 time stamp supposed to indicate a flashback or is it an error? Kind of confusing unless you're keeping track of all the dates :/ Shibuya was Oct. 31 2018 and it's been a lil while since then. Or was kenjaku setting this stuff up waaaay in advance?
-
@QueenTangerine3 Yes, that's my take.
-
Re-read the chapter and Kenjaku literally mentions November, so it's definitely a flashback. That's why it's a good thing to go back and re-read chapters sometime. lol.
I still think it needed some gray or whatever around the border to signify a flashback, not just a plain ol' timestamp, bc it's still a bit confusing.

A bit more of politics

I continue to not really care about this plot but the secretary was so funny in how into it he is it became a fun parody.
-
Meh. Still not really feeling this side of the plot. Some nice panels this chapter though.
-
Gotta say I love how this chapter makes use of stereotypes. It doesn't go overboard with them but what is more important it's not one sided but both US American and Japanese stereotypes get shown here. Especially the latter shows some level of self awareness which is refreshing for me.
-
Ok I did laugh when The Macho Colonel associates gun ownership with toxic masculinity. I think I'd cut two pages of the bragging about the co-op teams and have something flashier for his cursed technique. I'm not impressed by ganesha standing still and some extras from Winter Soldier falling to the floor.
This all being about energy and the US gov changing abductiong for protection is grounded, by since it's a manga I wish they had gone even further with the parody/idea.

Wouldn't it be funny to end the world?
https://mangaplus.shueisha.co.jp/viewer/1014456 -
Oof. I can understand why yuki is so angry. All that work and sacrifice rendered basically pointless bc "they were always gonna end up like this." Seeing riko this chapter was just an extra twist of the knife.
Destroying the world for funsies? You do you, Kenjaku.
-
I don't think I understand what the true purpose for the culling games is. Could someone please explain that to me?

Chosoooo
I don't want him to die! He has to hang in there for yuji! -
@Ivotas
From 145 it seems to be a way to make it easier for humanity to merge with Tengen.If I was to push my how guess it would be that the curse energy of the fighters is channelled into the land or the barriers to make the people on the land or inside the barriers more compatible with him.

That's some lazy BS one panel explanation...
-
Tbh I'm not gonna miss yuki. As a special grades she came off as a bit...underwhelming? but I blame it mostly on the fact her first really big battle was against Kenjaku of all people. Did we ever learn about her connection with Todo? I'm blanking out. I remember the lil flashback we got of them meeting, but I can't remember if we got any more of that.
Glad choso appears to get to live for another day.
-
Back to the colonies and before the Kenkaju vs Choso & Tsukumo.
-
RIP helicopter man. I vaguely remember u.
Is it bad that out of the previously encountered participants shown in this chapter...the only name I can remember is Higuruma's?? -
Higurima is the best one, so your fine there.
-
Kugisaki crumbs
They've known hana for like 5 minutes and yuji's already afraid she'll replace Kugi. -
I liked one half of this chapter. The other half I can't say much about as I have no idea what the heck was going on.
-
Gege plans to end JJK this year. Yuji feels a bit out of character, the chapter feels disjointed, and some guy at Reddit said that editorial is non-existent for JJK because of how much money it makes and honestly? I can tell how letting the writer do their own shit and decide everything makes the series suffer.
The Nobara call-back and panel felt like stupid teasing that was unnecessary, we didn't even get new information.
The culling games while fun felt like they dragged it for way too long. Maki's "training" colony arc was a whatever. Yuki died for nothing. There are way too many characters introduced to be killed off satisfactory if we are seeing an end in a year or so. -
Megumi life is pain
https://mangaplus.shueisha.co.jp/viewer/1015668 -
Last week's chapter felt disjointed and so did this one imo. Lots of garbled conversation.
It feels like gege's just trying to shove the remaining pieces into place as quickly as possible to set up the finale. -
yeah, too much time was spent on culling games and maybe he got burnt out somewhere so the plot points that are really interesting such as tsumiki is gonna get rushed.
that and the inevitable several character deaths that we only started getting invested in.
please don't end this in a year gege, take a break, go on a holiday, whatever. -
@zeltrax225 said in Jujutsu Kaisen:
please don't end this in a year gege, take a break, go on a holiday, whatever.
By the raws of next chapter, it seems he still intends to end this year.
-
@pariston_hill I hate how I was this disjointed from the series and in one chapter now I am thoroughly invested again. Holy shit.

TWIST AND SHOUT
https://mangaplus.shueisha.co.jp/viewer/1015623 -
Whoa, that was hardcore.
-
I did not expect something like that to happen, like ever.
What side will Sukuna go to or will he be on his own with no one by his side? -
I thought it was evident that he is on his own side. Like wasn't he set up to be this series' big bad from the very beginning?
-
Yeah, he is, I don't think he even cares that much about Kenjaku but what I do believe is that Kenjaku cares about Sukuna enough to create an experiment vessel to host him and likely has plans to steer Sukuna to do what he wants. Not that it is going to be easy. It is supposedly a three-party face off that is going to happen with Sukuna, Kenjaku and JJK sorcerers. I can't really see the culling game players that are still alive to have any impact except joining the JJK high sorcerers.
I can see the first match-up being Gojo vs Sukuna, Yuta vs Kenjaku, and then Kenjaku vs Sukuna followed by whoever won to fight the rest of the survivors, Yuji included.
This is 100% going to snowball similarly to the second half of Shibuya, with one-sided slaughter, massacre of characters (they will actually die this time) and a final team fight against one entity, before leading to the inevitable final one on one finale.
And if I am being honest, Sukuna is just so much more of a charming asshole than Not-Geto Kenjaku.
-
My only confusion is, since he ate one finger, wouldn't Megumi-kenjaku be weaker?
-
@zeltrax225
Yep, I agree with that. Kenjaku trying to make use of Sukuna I take a given at this point because it just fits his MO so far. You don't gather that many curses and whatever else he's been doing to boost your forces and leave the possibly strongest one out. If he ends up controlling Sukuna for real is a different question alltogether but it at least strikes me as a very plausible way to progress the plot. -
@kevo_koma it doesn't matter because when Sukuna split himself into 20 fingers he split his powers into 20, in this case because he intended to transfer it all over to Meg, he concentrate all 15 into that one.
-
Well, shes gonna be dead in two weeks.
-
Angel u dumb dumb. I expect her to be dead soon.
