Chapter 896: The Last Request
-
Lovely battle and solid ending for Katakuri, hope to see him on Luffy's side during the final war.
-
I enjoyed this more than I thought it would. Glad this arc is coming to a close.
-
Pekoms will be spotted since even Luffy noticed it was him lol.
-
Oda pulled all the stops to make it as close as possible lol.
-
Didn't Luffy try to trick everyone a while back and say he was already at the Island waiting?… I thought I remembered that. Anyways, really amazing chapter. I love that Luffy and Katakuri have so much respond for one another. Even though I wanted the fight to end, I have to admit I'm going to miss him quite a bit
-
I'm not too big of a fan of the lack of impact in the final blows, but Luffy and Katakuri's final exchange was pleasant. Pretty chill chapter which is nice after what the last one contained, good character moments. Mont-d'Or telling Morgans that he wouldn't get his big scoop was pretty funny. It was neat seeing Sanji undercover, and that moment with him and Pudding was admittedly pretty sweet, even if their road here was rather bumpy.
But really Oda? Introducing this Nazoms guy out of absolutely nowhere when the arc's about to end? At least Gastino had enough time to make an impression, but this is like prime asspull territory right here. How does he know Pedro? Did he escape from the circus? Why was he foreshadowed by the title of Chapter 888? I mean, honestly Pekoms could've been inserted here and that would've made more sense.
-
I know Luffy has to win cuz he's the protag and all that, and it did end nicely. But GOD it would have been a lot more interesting if Katakuri had won and allowed Luffy to go on out of sheer respect.
WHERE PUDDING
-
Also the spoilers said Luffy avoided Katakuri's attack, but I'm not sure that's the case… if he did, I don't know how but I'd hate to think that he just took it as well. I guess I'm not sure what happened there.
-
It's remarkable the lots of you that think Luffy getting pitied is interesting and entertaining.

He took it. You can see the blood trail when Katakuri lifts his arm.
-
Correct me if I'm wrong, but Snack isn't among those assembled at the mirror. Wonder where he is?

Katakuri slam his arms on Luffy like a hammer, the force of it broke the floor. The attack was different from the first one I guess Katakuri couldn't complete after taking the hit from King Cobra.

Katakuri: Yea you can't beat me, so are you gonna come back to beat my mum thats bigger badder and stronger after?
Luffy: YEA! I'm the one to become the pirate king.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Katakuri is one big guy:
!
If there is anything im curious about, it's when Oda releases the height statistics on him. Might be same or a bit taller than Doflamingo.
Scaling is all over the place, but judging on that picture, Katakuri has to be like 10 metres tall.
-
How many people still think Pedro is alive after this chapter?
-
@S.C.:
Correct me if I'm wrong, but Snack isn't among those assembled at the mirror. Wonder where he is?
I think in Ch. 894 he was on his ship
-
Stupid Oven standing there with a big grin. The idiot can't even see Luffy if he's moving fast.

He gotta be one of those book prison escapees, yeah that's certainly the case, this minor plot point had to be brought up again, and I was expecting nothing less from Oda's masterful planning.

His height is in the new SBS, anyone have it to post for us?
Edit: He's 5.09meters
-
Man this has been so exciting for me. I know everything is going to end up all well and good for the crew I just can't wait to see how it unfolds.
Loved loved loved Katakuri's last words to Luffy.
-
Sanji may have got his first kiss.
The viola bit, they don't seem close enough at any point to kiss and lack of a sound effect.
-
It looks like it's pretty certain that Luffy is going to go and take down big mum at some point. I don't think it makes sense for Luffy to say this many times and then the exchange of words with Katakuri.
I'm not sure what the setting would be when Luffy would take down Big Mom, but I don't see Katakuri being defeated again in the series for story purposes. Luffy defeated the undefeated man, and the only one too sounds nice.
Having someone like Zoro come out and beat him in an all out battle, wouldn't sound right.
-
Katakuri is 509 cm, which is significantly taller than Doflamingo, might be Big Mom's mutated genes coming to play.
-

If it was out on an SBS, it would be on the Wiki. Hes 509 centimetres, so he pretty much dwarfs Doflamingo at 305cm. That's pretty god damn big.

Interesting as in being a traitor after one fight?
I feel like Pages 7 and 8 were pretty unnecessary given where the last chapter ended. Seeing the immediate aftermath didn't add anything in my opinion. We get…the attacks retracting? It would've been much more interesting to see Luffy in the hole right next to the 12:37 panel. The last few chapters were great but I guess the Katakuri stans just need to accept that his durability isn't particularly high compared to Luffy fighting for the majority of the last 36 hours. Luffy took way more punishment and Katakuri is the worse for wear.
Bege's eye looks especially creepy in his panel. I'm not even sure what type of expression he's supposed to have.

Also apparently BM is 880cm.
Katakuri is 509CM
Smoothie is 464CM
Cracker is 307CM (2cm above Doflamingo).Who knows maybe within the family that's like a power level indicator, seems to make sense LOL.

Do the SFX after Pudding takes Sanji's cigarette give us insight into what happened? The spoilers seemed to suggest that she wanted him to stop smoking but now I think we're meant to assume that she kissed him.
-
Also since Sanji does still have his cigarette at the end, there should be little doubt that they shared a kiss. Just hoping there wasn't a mindwipe. She still hasn't gotten her Odabox.
ughhhh

lolwut it was obvious she was going to kiss him even in the spoilers

lol. It's funny you should bring this up. Remember when Katakuri and Streusen were introduced or when Capone and Jimbei were reintroduced? People complained their roles had begun too late in the arc with no time to develop. Thinking about it now, having these characters come around far more spread out instead of front loaded like Dressrosa actually made for a much better read I think.

I think there had to have been a mindwipe right after, or else he'd still be a puddle on the floor.

Bege's eye looks especially creepy in his panel. I'm not even sure what type of expression he's supposed to have. That actually makes sense: Katakuri's whole "game" is not taking dmg by way of dodging so it's natural that his "durability" isn't as well developed as the rest of his skills.

When shown she will be Vinsmoke Pudding.
Wait if they kissed aren’t they technically married?
-

Oh shiz I didn't even notice. A+ tastes.
-

There was a couple of minutes between Sanji and Pudding moment to the end of the chapter with him, he could have had enough time to gather himself.
-
I'm going to miss best boy Katakuri.
-

Wait if they kissed aren’t they technically married?
Next chapter:
-Somewhere over the sea-
Pudding flying off somewhere on her magic carpet
She flashbacks to this chapter
"I have just one last request"
She goes in for the kiss
[VINSMOKE PUDDING]
"I'm sorry"
her hand slides into Sanji's head so she can erase his memories with herI HATE IT
-
I absolutely love the bit with Luffy covering Katakuri's mouth with the hat. So much respect between these two characters. Totally can't wait to see what role the BM pirates have later on in the story.
-
Loved this chapter a lot. Katakuri was such a treat this arc, can't wait to see him again one day.
-

Sanji? Really? Our Sanji?
-
Pekoms to force Brulee to use her power to disguise Luffy as Katakuri, then?
-
Biggest surprise of this arc: Bege has shown himself to be rather likable.
-
Sanji? Really? Our Sanji?
Sanji has to man up for his captain for once!
Serious time man, minutes left on the clock!
Gots to keep himself together and if the moment between the 2 is serious Sanji might just be holding himself back….until he can unleash the beast later.
-
Do the SFX after Pudding takes Sanji's cigarette give us insight into what happened? The spoilers seemed to suggest that she wanted him to stop smoking but now I think we're meant to assume that she kissed him.
Ive never heard that sound effect. I'm asking my friends though
I tried googling and stuff, but haven't gotten any hits.
-
Sanji? Really? Our Sanji?
Hey, if Sanji no longer blowing a gasket after getting kissed by a cute girl (at least sometimes) isn't considered character development, I don't know what is.
-
@All:
Pekoms to force Brulee to use her power to disguise Luffy as Katakuri, then?
Oh man I didn't even think of that. Would be helpful in letting Luffy out long enough before they take notice that something's off and he and Sanji can make a break for it.
-
Pudding was erasing his memory about her @Jaime:
Sanji may have got his first kiss.
The viola bit, they don't seem close enough at any point to kiss and lack of a sound effect.
-
I hope that when we see Katakuri again he's wearing that hat.
-
Incredible finale to this duel between pirates. The hat scene! Just…...Never stop being awesome, Luffy-senpai!
Also, it was rather nice to get a serious "I'm gonna be King of the Pirates" scene. Feels like it's been a while since we had one of those.
Wondering how in the world Prometheus has caught up to the Firetanks, but screw it.
-
Wondering how in the world Prometheus has caught up to the Firetanks, but screw it.
It was never stated that he couldn't. The Firetanks had some pretty decent distance on Big Mom when she started chasing them, then she was slightly closer the last time we saw them, and now has caught up.
