It's a miracle that Luffy is still standing straigth after all of those hits and mortal injury, but I don't think we've had reasons to doubt power of Gear 4 yet. I don't think it's fair to downplay other elements of battle because of Luffy's illogical and supernatural durability in this fight.

Can't say I liked this chapter. It just felt like padding.

BM moving at a slug-ish pace so prevent her from reaching Bege's ship is SO forced, I am pretty sure I shook my head when I read it. I mean, this woman is a beast destroying everything in her path so she can get this cake, and now it is within her range she is just moving as slowly as possible towards it? "It's because Prometheus can't move too fast when he is that big", well Prometheus can freely control his size so this shouldn't be a problem.

As a fan of the Charlotte family, I am all for having as many of the child being introduced as possible, but this time it felt like it happened just to fill panels. And Snack's introduction being just a small panel in the same page as another 14 kids were introduced was a bit underwhelming… not a fan of his design at first glance, but that could change after a proper look at it (somehow I feel like he will have a cute face).

As for the Smoothie bit, well... it's something! Oda set the bar so low for Smoothie that this little is enough for us to celebrate.

Overall I felt like the chapter was just Oda trying to stretch things out and it could easily be summarized as "a few hours passed and Luffy decided to use a new G4 form... in the next chapter."

Snack is there, he has a big bounty, was defeated by a supernova, and Sanji is going this way. I think that all the other presentations are just "company"

His hands are covered with what looks like orthopedic casts. Maybe his entire body is covered with them, and the scarf is hiding a schantz (cervical collar).

Too soon to judge poor Snack based on one panel with 30-40 % of his body shown. But it is strongly alluded he was the weakest of sweet commanders.

That how many guys do they have scene really rubbed in how the Strawhats are bringing down the BM pirates with less than half their crew and allies. Feels weird when the BM's have like 70 named characters with large bounties. But eh c'est la vie, they had to do it sooner or later i suppose

So Katakuri has his own version of Red Hawk too, very cool. Loved the chapter, it felt meatier than previous chapters. I like Raisin's design. Smoothie we all secretly want you to be awesome. Rayleigh is too cool. Snake man…?

Luffy looking like MOFO Neo when he was dodging Katakuri's attacks, I was waiting for him to answer the phone when Trinity called. I said this in the spoilers the only thing I don't like is Rayleigh saying that some people can even see the future. I would have preferred him to show Luffy he can see the future. In my eyes, it kind of feels like a retcon now that they are going back and saying that.

Correct me if I am wrong but Luffy was surprised when Beige said it right.

I wonder what Brooke will do when he sees Smoothie in her panties. LMAO. Her giant panties. I been thinking this for some time but I don't think Luffy will actually show up in Cacao island. I think the Strawhats are using misdirection to confuse the enemy. Kind of like in 2 Fast 2 Furious at the end when they switch cars and confuse the cops. Also has Luffy ever been great at directions, I know he is no Zoro but he isn't Nami either.

Hrmmm. The chapter was meaty and interesting. Rayleigh flashback was good. I can't help but feel I'd be more satisfied if Luffy started taking some hits but was mostly dodging right after Rayleigh's flashback. This, to me, is when the tables should have turned. Now Luffy getting the soul punched out of him is tacky feeling. He's out of his depth – that's been established prior. Still excited for Snakeman and I still liked the chapter. Cool to see Snack, little details like that are what make OP so fun.

Maybe with Sanji speech of saving his captain and the hints at the wedding that Kata could not predict Sanji's move and he was able to dodge him, Sanji can be the one who will finish off Kata.

Won't lie, the spoilers had me groaning a bit since it seems we were just going around in circles again. But this does feel legit tense and I like the cuts back and forth to what everyone is doing, plus seeing more of the Charlotte family is always a plus. Still though padding is padding and I can't help but feel restless by now with this chase. I give it at least five more chapter to reach it's end (One to finish the Katakuri fight, another for the Cake, one for Luffy's escape which may or may not involve the Germa, the getaway and the aftermath).

Relax we thought Cracker were pretty bland also until he showed that he was hiding in basically a suit of armor. I think it might be premature judging him based on such a small image.

I am confused why people are upset with Smoothie growing, like she had a need to. I'm sure we haven't seen all her moves yet so her growing seems like nothing out of the ordinary.

Arc ending? Or the climax ending by 900, I think it is a safer bet that the climax will have ended and things will be getting wrapped up. I think they will still be in or around WCI in chapter 900.

Becoming a giant is the standard useless power in any work of fiction. It always amounts to have your ass kicked. It's probably because of that.

I saw a theory a while ago that maybe Smoothie could juice things out and drink it to gain its properties. This could make her ability become very useful (in this case, she would have drunk the juice of a giant*, thus gaining their huge size).

Maybe this way of using observation haki to understand other people's feelings was also used unintentionally by Sanji, especially when he appeared to understand women's feelings, like when he predicted Robin's actions in W7 or that whole "your tears were real" he used to trust Viola in Dressrosa.

The snake mode could refer to how pythons kill their prey by grappling their target and slowly squeezing them do submission. Would be an interesting fighting technique for luffy and make him more versatile.

I imagine it gives Luffy the ability to manipulate his body parts independently. Mimicking Boa sisters and how they avoided his punches. He might avoid blows the same way Katakuri did, just in a more crude method. Bending his body instead of opening holes in it.

He might even look more like Katakuri, just a slightly thinner version.

He even sensed when Tashigi was crying. If you also consider that Sanji dodging Katakuri's shot was also him using future sight, then yeah Sanji is defnitely an elite user(intentionally or not) of observation haki.

So maybe this is just further confirmation of the theory of the Monster trio being extremely good at aspects of Haki. So Zoro is armament(as evidenced by his comment on Pica), Sanji(Observation, coz he dodged Katakuri) and Lufyy will be good at all three.

We can have cutaways from the battle or we can see the battle. I'm LOVING that we're actually seeing the struggle instead of just seeing its aftermath.

I'm hoping that Snakeman form is his muscle balloon combined with Observation Haki, like Boundman is muscle balloon + Armament Haki and Tankman is Muscle Balloon + Obesity Haki.

We still haven't had Smoothie's fruit identified yet, have we? I put forward the "Useless Useless no Mi". The longer its user stays useless the more powerful they become. Unfortunately, once they start to do something useful, it negates the power of the fruit and they thus lose all that accumulated power.

Now I'm even more convinced the BMP will have their hands full after the Straw Hats escape. They're gathering too many of their forces at Cacao Island and with the Sea Slugs missing they can't see if anyone has slipped through their borders. Maybe that was Stussys intention when she told them about the Tamate Box. Everyone looking toward the Strawhats and missing the real threat.
Also Germa to arrive at Cacao and wreck shit up.

I'm assuming Snake Man's usefulness works best with observation haki, and is also used to grab hold of the opponent, and swing the opponent around like a whip hitting the ground back and forth. If anyone is familiar with how the Hulk in the Marvel movies grabs opponents Loki/Thor and swings them around, hitting them on the ground.

And I'm not sure but on page 6 Luffy is listening to Katakuri's spirit/personality not anything from Rayleigh's flashback dialogue. Because Rayleigh laughs with a Wahaha! not a Fufufufu that perhaps I think Katakuri does.

I'm excited to see the snake form of Gear 4. Luffy has most likely actually done this form before unlike the tank form which was purely situational. With all the fatigue Luffy's been building up, I'm assuming he'll be out of commission until maybe even the middle stages of Wano.

I guess the term I was looking is frenemy. If some of them appear at Elbaf, I expect them to be on neither side instead of pursuing their own interests. But yeah, most of them have to fend off the vultures so I don't expect the capacities appearing at Elbaf to be that large.

I can see Katakuri, Pudding, Chiffon and possibly Baron Tomago, all stepping up and asking BM to spare the SHs. Oda already established that BM listens to her subordinates when she spared Pedro because Pekoms vouched for him.

I can see the news about the BM pirates being humiliated by the SH prompting Blackbeard's crew to try and swoop in and take advantage of BM weakened state. That or the Marines will make a move on WCI.

Dogtooth continue to try his best to put Luffy down and failing and he still believes it is a good idea to let him power up after almostcatching up to his level of dodging. At least I hope next stage of the fight will be entertaining.

So the Big Mom Pirate finally decided that maybe it was time to take the strawhats seriously. It took time but at least now they are being reasonable. I liked the panel. Really give you the feeling of a assembling all your forces to take an a giant threat. Kind of remind me the marines getting to MarineFord.

I wonder what Sanji plan to do. It could give a nice sequence like the quick kick to oven to get Chiffon.

I still think there's pride in the fact that Katakuri didn't want the fight to be won thanks to someone else's interference. It's not all black or white ; he does cast away the perfect big brother façade, reveals his true appearance and accepts the consequences. He is angered by Flambee's actions because he may have grown some respect for Luffy's fighting prowess and feels he owes him a fair fight. But he also wants the fight to go on for a victory that he would owe to his own merits, when he really should be finishing this as quickly as possible to go help sort out the giant mess. What is that if not pride (with a hint of selfishness) ?

As for exploiting Katakuri's character, I don't mean manipulating him of course, that's completely unlike Luffy. Still, he managed to transform "I want you dead as soon as possible" into "I'm enjoying this fight, let's make it long and fair". Katakuri certainly doesn't pull his punches, yet he also lets Luffy stand back up again and again. If instead his opponent were a no-nonsense ruthless person like Doflamingo or Crocodile, Luffy would probably be dead by now.
