This was a really cool chapter! I guess I had thought that Big Mom would just eat the cake here at sea, but this turn of events really makes sense considering that they still need to reunite with Luffy and he can't get onto the Sunny. Plus it doesn't necessitate the rushing of the Katakuri battle. I do hope that Big Mom's pursuit of Bege and the cake isn't offscreened though, I'm really interested in seeing what Bege intends to do to Big Mom and the likelihood of him succeeding.
Oven making this huge barricade makes me think Sanji will get to square off with him - as Butt-head would say, "That would be cool." Also, THREE Smoothies? hahahahahahahahahaha. I was tempted to think Oda may finally get Smoothie's gears turning, but…zero times three is still zero...
And man, that last page. What really sold it was Flampe's reaction - that was just pure cold blooded right there.

It's my firm belief Smoothie got her bounty entirely by mistake. Someone else did an amazing feat but Attachan saw her standing over the bodies of whoever was slain and thought she did it.

About this last few pages are we sure Luffy was distracted it looked to me like Luffy sensed the oncoming pain from Katakuri's next attack and tried to avoid the future where he gets hit by it.
I'll have to reread when a better scan drops though.One Piece fan since '99

Reminds me of that one Fairy Tail translation, some dude said his little brother made him translate the shitty manga. The wording was pretty similar.

I think we're supposed to understand that Luffy's concentration was broken with the dart/arrow for a split moment (the first "hm?"), then focused again on Katakuri (second "hm") and couldn't dodge the spear fully, which is why Luffy's side will most likely show to be torn up or skewered.
I suspect the following: The Germa will find the SH's at Cacao island with Smoothie's fleet quickly approaching, so their fleets will battle it out. And the three sisters will fight the three brothers + Reiju, and Oven vs Sanji/Jinbe fight will commence. The mirror on the island will serve for Luffy to blast Katakuri through it with all the crew to bear witness at Luffy having defeated the BM's top commander. And then the escape can commence.

Great chapter to come back on, loved the transitional scenes and now oda threw us a complete left turn with the capone taking the cake to liquor town. I dont buy that the cake will be eaten offpanel so i wonder how it will get to cacao. That's where everything is ramping up. The luffy-katakuri scene was awesome either way, either luffy got a gnarly blow and will keep fighting regardless in a bad ass way, or he saw into the future enough to dodge in the next chapter. I'm curious how oda handles the next chapters because I feel the climax has been shifted a bit forward.
With oven waiting we know two things, Pound probably got sliced, there probably wasn't a second blade and sanji will probably have to fight him to get to luffy since no matter how much he does to katakuri he wont be in any shape to fight a whole army.

Man, I accidentally saw that angry "FUCKING DIE" Pudding panel before reading this chapter and thought she pulled another fast one on us. I'm kind of disappointed.
Anyway, this was a slower-than-average pure setup transition chapter. I don't mind it, but I know at lot of people are going to be angry.

You can do setup without being slow. Most of the arc's opening chapters were like that.
