Well, I think Neverland isn't really Jump-like series, but it is doing good. So, possibly going to be same thing for this one as well.
At least, Murata (illustrator of One Punch-man) is enjoying it.

Neverland ends up being a mind battle shonen like death note tho, acting doesnt sell itself in jump tbh. You can make it like a sports manga but how will you sell acting without sound?

Death Note considered not Jump-like series when it started (this series created the boundary for mind battle series). And many people said Neverland isn't Jump-like series during its early serialization. So, I don't see Act-Age going to be a failure because it is not Jump-like series.; it is solely depends whether it is interesting or not.
And I don't get your argument about acting will be failure because of no sound? Music manga series doesn't have sound, but I can see there are lots of hit music series out there.

How do you do a food manga with no taste? How can you do a dance manga with no motion? It's a medium of visuals and words, it's pretty easy to see how they use those senses to create an image that compensates for the lack of the others.
As for the manga itself, it reminds me of this quote I love from J. Michael Tatum (who was himself quoting someone else) that I'm just going to paraphrase here. "Your character is like a wild animal… it's very beautiful, but if you're going to bring it in the house you have to put it on a leash." I do think that this sort of balance between the intrinsic madness of embodying a character, while also keeping enough stability to not let your performance get totally muddled or go in a dangerous direction, is an interesting angle to approach the main conflict from. Really cool how pretty much every character we've seen so far has a perfectly valid perspective, rather than just setting someone in particular up to be a baddie. I'm a bit miffed that Yonagi was able to supposedly master method acting without any formal training, but can also concede that some actors do catch onto it really quickly. That she was able to do it just from watching a bunch of movies though, is complete nonsense. Might as well say, "oh yeah, I stared at these Monet paintings a whole lot, so I'm a brilliant artist now." Huh, I wonder if this is how athletes feel when reading sports manga.
One element I do hope Act-Age expands on though, is how important other actors are to a performance. Half of all acting is listening and all, so if they keep the attention entirely on Yonagi, it might get kind of boring fairly quickly. They do kind of touch on that in the "feral dog" scene, but it just ended up with Yonagi dominating the audition anyway.

I was really impressed by the writing of the first chapter.
This manga gives me a strange impression. Either it will be a huge hit or it will completely fail, no in between. -
Is anyone still reading this? I started but the shonen jump app has a gap between chapter 7 to 46. Anyone know where I could read it?

Was just debating on starting it myself after browsing the jump app's offerings. Haven't made the leap yet, but I did search to find the chapters. Here:

Heck yeah, Act-Age! I've been following it pretty regularly, and have been consistently delighted by it. The main character is just top-notch, and there are some just stellar story beats in there. The accuracy is… well, it's a joke, and its misrepresentation of method acting is actively harmful if anyone reads this and tries it without knowing what they're doing, but the narrative is interesting enough that I don't care. Yeah. I wanna punch some of the characters, not always in a good way, but it's fun and compelling, and I recommend giving it a shot if you're into more contemporary drama-based stories in your shonen.

I haven't decided if I like it yet. The main character's knack for acting makes her sound more like she's on the spectrum or something. Just the way she words her confusion in not understanding how to act for stuff she never experienced. But most people just say she's like a pure method actor or whatever. It's kinda weird.
I needed to read more before I decided if I could enjoy this or not. That Angel girl or whatever annoyed the hell out of me lol. That older lady…I dunno. Yay for wanting to make sure your actors are okay is nice, but stiffing people on work cause you think you know them best without knowing them is dumb.

I found the gap in Spanish, but they claimed that once they got to the train play they started translating it straight from Japanese, but I couldn't find the English group that did most of it.
I enjoyed it, just for being itself, Kei is great, the angel I dunno how to feel but if Kei trust her, idk. There is a ton of fun and drama in this.

Woo caught up. I'm still not sure how I feel about this. It's interesting enough I suppose.
Ogami's hair is the dumbest thing in this though lol.
And I want to actually see Takemitsu act. He's just been sidelined to that sort of character that gives exposition during sports anime.
-
Angel's fine. Her attitude is troublesome for sure, but at the same time she has a level of pragmatism that's understandable and outright common for the work she does. Ogami, however, would probably be run out of town in minutes in any real-life scenario.
Meanwhile, the current arc is just laughable for me. It's like that Sir Ian McKellen scene from Extras, if it was played completely seriously and everyone was super impressed by it for some reason. I love how dumb it is.
-
Yeah Angel is better. But I dislike that character type. She's a failure away from a nervous breakdown. I kinda wonder if this series would ever tackle drug abuse child actors tend to get mixed up in. But that might be too adult to real for the magazine.
I do like that Akira is trying to set his own path as a best support actor. Which is still not terrible. Plenty of great actors are in supporting roles.
-
Considering that stars has been presented as the "good" agency, and the troupe practically saved kids from the street, it won't be one of them. But give or take a few arcs more, and be ready to it just be something mild being addictive or generic/fantasy drugs.
