Welp, that kinda sucks. Any other good options out there?

Well this is just the worst news in the world. I go on batoto every day and it is by far the best website for reading manga for its collection and ease of use.
From the sound of the comments the owner is being really stubborn about refusing to pass the site to anyone else to manage, as if he’s the only person in the world capable of managing it. Kinda annoyed at the attitude tbh, there’s no need to kill the website, he could easily sell the domain and management and let someone else take over. Sure, it moght drop in quality, but killing it out right is dramatic and unnecessary.
Well that sucks. I have to find somewhere else for Tower of God spoiler discussions.
This sucks big time.
Well, this part makes me hope that something survives afterwards.
"Going forward, some of the staff members have and still are in the process of backing up the entire Batoto comic content as they have been notified of this decision well in advanced. They may choose to create a new Batoto or something simpler. That will be up to them, but I will no longer be part of running it."
Nooo. I don't know where else to read Horimiya.
I haven't been reading manga all that much these past couple of years so I don't know if people already know about this site, but here: mangaseeonline.us/search/
Shit. I have a long ass list of mangas to read saved on that website.
Well, the dev for Jaimini's Box is willing to help small groups to get a host (from what he has been saying on r/manga), so maybe there'll be some hope for some scanlation groups. Still, this feels like when Onemanga closed.

Don't even remind of that trauma back then. I was still a kid who didn't really know anything about scanlation sites and manga forums and Onemanga was the only thing I had back then. I was completely lost when it closed Yeah, it really sucks big time. I understand the decision from the owner though. I hope some of the guys backing up the contents of Batoto eventually launch a similar compilation, it is just so nice to have a wide array of manga to choose from, even less known ones not found in other sites.
I must say the content of the site was great but for reading manga other sites were more confortable since the loading of images was quite slow and they refused to have the vertical reading outside of webtoons. As a consequence I read through android applications which probably counted me as a bot.
Not the kind of news I want to see when I wake up. It's by far the best place to read manga. Didn't use it as much as I should've, but it's my go-to-place for Dorohedoro and Beastars…
I hope a decent alternative appears soon. Batoto was the best place to discover new series from small scanlation groups.
This really sucks.
Not even going to pretend to be a good guy, 2018!? That was fast…
Oh well, Batoto is my favorite manga site, where I always go when I want to read a new title, but I totally understand the owner's decision. Guess I will spend the next 9 days reading manga.
I wonder if there are any news about a replacement site?
They do have an option to export your follows off your my follows page. You just get a list of titles, so you can at least have that if there is ever a replacement site created.
[EDIT] Also they announced that the forums will be moving to http://www.vatoto.com/ after the original domain dies. Right now, there's nothing at the URL.
Batoto's successor
Can we have a quick batch of suggestions on where to go now that Batoto is gone? Opinions would be welcome.
For the two batoto series I follow I'm visiting the scanlation sites and downloading directly from them. It's a bit of a hassle, but feels better than going to some scummy site.
Jamini's box offers quality translations of a couple popular series.
If you're fine with scummy sites, there's mangatail. They aren't quite as obnoxious as Mangafox and similar sites. I'd recommend going there to find new titles or catch up with a series, then switching over to the official scanlation site.
For more legal options there's always crunchyroll and buying physical copies. If you're lucky your local library might have manga to loan.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Also, you can always bring recommendations to your library and they might buy some.
If I want to read something online as opposed to downloading it I use Kissmanga. Apparently most other sites were ripping scans off Batoto though so I guess this is a lesson to not put all your eggs in one basket.
https://mangarock.com/ seems to be a decent site to use for now, though they seem to be app based, since a lot of features are only on their app & not on the website.
