I was really hoping the anime would help me like this flashback a lot more, but I still feel pretty much the same about it. Just meh 
The good news is that there was some really strong storyboarding in this episode, some of the best we've seen in a while. The bad news is…this is still one of the flattest, most two-dimensional story bits that Oda's written. I did realize that young Yonji is voiced by Akemi Okamura though, which is funny. And that they omitted that post-opening intro for once! I know better than to believe that it's a permanent change, but a man can dream...

Donquixote Rosinante deserved what happened. He was a liar and a traitor. I hate when characters betray, even if its happening on the villains side.

The original sin lies with Oda for making Sanji's backstory so basic and cliched.
Though, like always, the anime does nothing to lessen the blow; instead they just stretch out the mediocrity to infinity and beyond.

I noticed that as well. This is the first time in years that the title card appeared around the 3 minute mark.
Not sure if this is just a one-time thing, but I hope not.
Maybe it's the fact that I got really drunk, but I thought this was really good. Music great the entire way, something I'd very longed for recently. I mean it's nothing compared to so many great episodes in the series's past, but so refreshing, all the same.
I don't really see the fact that the brothers beating him up so much detracts much. I'd forgotten that it took 6 months before they finally figured out where he was.
I didn't really understand why there was so much crying when he leaves Judge's presence, but maybe that was just me at the time. But hell yes give me young Reiju's expressions any day. Well… it is what it is.

My point, however, is that the anime is using every opportunity they can find to have Ichiji/Niji/Yonji, or a combination of whichever, or all three, beat up on Sanji.
Every week on Youtube, I'm finding new Sanji Vs Whoever videos. More instances of Sanji getting kicked. More added scenes of the brothers beating him up.
Maybe I'm just hating it because this is my least favorite part of the arc, that as well as the "Stand around and wait for something to happen" I.. I.. mean, the "Seducing Woods" part of the story.

Blame Oda for that, because every beating Sanji suffered in this episode and the last at the hands of his brothers was right there in the manga. Literally the only difference is that the images aren't stills that you can flick your eye over in a second.

No, I thought this was pretty solid for a change too. Strong on all fronts, which i haven't seen in a while.
Not to mention I'm glad we got an entire episode free of the dreadful Seducing Woods.
