Great chapter with some lovely action hit and run in it. Also nice to see the Germa in action. Seems like Pudding and somehow the treasure will most likely play a (big) factor in how they are gonna escape .

How can you guys say that this chapter was "Nothing much"?
First of all, Oda managed to tell a story in which all characters are deaf, and did an amazing job. Then Germa rescues the Strawhats!!! Moreover, Sanji has definitely something in mind in that last panel…
And Big Mom regained her senses, and is as intimidating as ever. I just loved this chapter. -
Man this Manga seems to have ground to a crawl recently. It feels like less and less happens every chapter. I miss the Enies lobby arc.

Of all arcs you could have chosen to represent packed chapters, you pick Enies Lobby. Where every chapter was a slugfest of mindless fighting. Right.
Vinsmoke super sentai transformation was cool as hell. I knew Oda wouldn't miss the chance to show that. Their entrance freeing Nami and co. was pretty nice as well. Fast hit-n-run action sequence with the Straw Hats getting trapped, with no way out. Honestly, this is probably the most desperate situation they've found themselves in since Sabaody. The only thing I can think of that can maybe give them a chance to escape is Luffy pulling a fast King Kong Gun, destroying the whole area, creating chaos and allowing bege to transform back into small human form and make a run for it.
And that damn Tamate Box keeps running away from the spotlight. I just can't figure out what purpose it will have. It's been teased for such a long time and yet, it keeps being pushed around with nobody managing to just open it. Urgh. Each passing chapter leaves me more confused as to how this arc is going to turn around. This is also a fine chapter to end volume 86 with. Big Mom finally coming back and wrecking shit.

You're damn right. This has been the same as that except instead of individual cool 1 v 1 fights we get a jumbled barley coherent free for all where nothing of note is accomplished for 20 chapters. Yay.
I don't give a damn about this arc so far so your feelings of praise for it are lost on me. I haven't been excited about anything that has happened since the end of Dessarosa where luffy got his official pirate subordinates.

Yeah, but the cool individual 1v1 fights took up just a share of Enies Lobby. Before and after that we got exactly the same deal we get here. SHs vs a bunch of people in a jumbled free for all. I liked Enies Lobby too, I won't say I didn't, but the point of this arc is not the same at all. It's fine if you don't like it, I wasn't trying to convince you of anything. My subsequent comments were for the thread in general. If you liked Dressrosa, I guess that you'll enjoy Wano more than the current storyline, as many predict it will be more along those lines.

Call me dumb, but is that meant to be someone we know trying to set fire to the Vinsmokes in that first spread of theirs, in the panels on the right, or is it an entirely new Big Mom Pirate?
You can see him in the past chapters too, surrounding the vinsmokes, other than that we didnt get a name or an introduction for him.

if anything oda's problem has always been trying to juggle too much characters at once…even only counting the big shots,the protagonists and their allies we have probably aroun 20 characters that have to find some space in a 16/18 page chapter.
i think the main problem here is timing..oda wanted to show the sentai transformation so much that he missed the chance to let them transform immediately off screen, thus making that timing discrepancy where germa and the big mom pirates just stand there without doing nothing while everything else happened..and while we are still talking about seconds, it's still enough time to pull the trigger
I completely agree to that. Always preferred One Piece when it's focusing on a small to medium cast instead of trying to handle crowds with a gazillion named characters.
Agreed as well for the Sentai transformation. That spread is awesome, but having 3 whole pages after the moment when the BM pirates are prepared to shoot really kills the timing.

The whole point of the chapter was to show how the Vinsmokes were super cool… everything else is pointless and/or a pretext for the Vinsmokes showing off. "omg the fodders got captured lol, let's throw some fire on the Vinsmokes to make 'em look veryyyy cool"
Last page of this chapter should have been the first one of this chapter (or last one of the prior chapter).

Very exciting chapter. This arc continues to be completely unpredictable and fun.

Glad to see the Big Mom pirates remaining an intimidating force, and overjoyed to see Big Mom back in action. So far her flashback is the most she's been sold as a formidably strong Emperor, so I'm glad to see that she gets to show off in the present now. Overall the chapter is enjoyable in the sense of the overwhelming odds against the Straw Hats persisting, though it kinda feels like the Straw Hats themselves are taking a back seat. With focus being given to sadistic shitbags like Caesar, Capone and the Vinsmokes, I find myself tuning in explicitly to see the ostensible protagonists get their asses kicked.
Speaking of, the Vinsmoke scene fell completely flat for me. This is a huge development for them, but their paneltime as been so restricted lately, and their supposed emotionlessness so underdeveloped, that it doesn't feel earned. And on the flipside, they've still been so aggressively shitty that a heroic turnabout is hard to believe, and hard to care about. I mean, Ichiji was introduced sacrifing an underling due to laziness, whereupon he blew the brains out of a soldier grieving for his Germa-killed family. Germa is so vile that Reiju was cool with the entire nation getting destroyed mere minutes ago. I don't feel particularly inclined to cheer for them, especially since chances of Sanji kicking his brothers faces in just sharply dropped. Also, even though Pudding has been pegged for Viola-style redemption for a while, its still lame to see her being tsundere for White Knight Sanji.
Still, Big Father is cool, and I can't wait to see Big Mom tear it to shreds.

If not, someone might pry into it just to be welcomed by a massive explosion. My doubt is, might it be possible to have an explosion powerful enough to destroy the foundations of Mama's tea party building? It would certainly bring insult to injury and still it would add another layer which would allow the crew to escape (in all that chaos conveyed). Sadly if something like this happens its execution must be impeccable to avoid any feelings of 'well, that's TOO convenient' or meh..'we hit a deux ex machina event':sad:

This chapter was okay. Loved the spread of Germa 66 posing. Could the Tamate Box possibly have fallen on the side where the Apple Juice waterfall is? Maybe he brings it back up the top and BM sees it in his hands and assumes he was trying to steal her treasure. With Mama questioning 'Where did you go mother' every 2 fcking minutes while sending us 5 second still shots of every and I stress EVERY dmn character attending the wedding.(The convocation has enough characters to have a 10+ minutes filler with still shots - from different perspectives of course for our entertainment
) then after the FB we could have a 30 second sequence of Katakuri releasing his rice earplugs and the mirror+launchers being destroyed (with of course another round of Stills of everyone plus their grandma's reactions to the events)…Yes, I can't wait for that day, GLORIOUS!
