Chapter 868: KX Launcher
-
Sweet!
Oda, you troll. Three missiles as if there was a backup or backup for the backup when you made all three fire at the same time and place.
What will happen now
Including with the treasure bomb?
-
Number of breaks Caesar has been able to catch: zero.
-
Young Streusen looks more like Al Capone than Bege lol.
-
That was a beautifully hilarious chapter, starting from page 1. I wonder how Oda is gonna top Cavendish's cover story arc? And of course, all the face faults…the mirror breaking...utterly delightful.
So Bege can become an actual castle. Well, that was to be expected I guess, but what's he planning? And oh look, Smoothie actually looks like she might do something...probably as far as she'll get though.
-
Rinrin? Is that her nickname or just ms fucking up translations again?
-
Imagine this page is Capones inner thoughts http://readms.net/r/one_piece/868/4326/14
Seems like he doesn't have much hope.
-
So she had ridiculously big bounties even back when she was young… I Wonder how much it actually is nowadays.
-

something like 5 Billions ?
-
Even though I'm disappointed Oda went with a (LOT) simpler route, the present turn of events is pretty sweet. It should be really interesting. Where are the Vinsmokes?
Regading the first, I'll probably need to lower my expectations a little.
-
Well, that wasn't supposed to happen. Did they take too long to shoot and she suddenly came back to her senses? Or did she sense attack on her? But more importantly, how did the rockets explode midair, looked like some kind of invisible barrier around her.
-
So she had ridiculously big bounties even back when she was young… I Wonder how much it actually is nowadays.
Well, if it was first 50 million, and then became 500 million, then it would be cool if Oda continued the trend and made her current bounty 5 billion.
-
During dressrosa Law waves ALOT of death flags so im not worried about Capone now he surely will come out here beat and tattered but not dead
So right now we have roughly 17 good fighters on our side that includes the vinsmokes so what do you think will be the battle matchup now?
-
"Yonkou will be Yonkou, I guess!" is the phrase I'm totally going to use from now on.
-
@Count:

That number would be too high at this point.
-
That number would be too high at this point.
Not really. 3-5 Billion is always what I've been expecting from Yonko bounties. By the billions point, I would suspect that Oda wouldn't care abut measly hundred millions and would just bank in on billions for big Yonko names. I also expect Luffy's next bounty to double to 1 billion. I look at bounty increasing from more of a multiplication standpoint than just adding.

So there's two people who saw everything, and both their PoVs are shown - correct me if I'm wrong, but no one but those two could have disproven the cannibalism theory I reckon. So either that really happened or we'll get another flashback of the complete incident from one of them later on that will clear things up.
Either way, cannibalism or another flashback that sheds a new light on the situation, I think both options are viable here; but I like the trope of new PoVs revealing unforeseen stuff as most prominently (over)used in every time travel movie ever, so I'm biased.
And, to be honest, the pure existence of the two spectating characters in itself feels like confirmation that there was more going on than meets the eye.
-
I dont know if this foreshadowing or not, but what Vito says in this page is 100 times funnier now that this chapter happened. Mama saying she'll never forgive the Straw Hats means a death sentence as soon as she's done screaming. Plot armor is the only way out of this one, and I don't think everyone makes it out alive, especially Bege.
-
I like to think that at a certain point, the yonkou's bounty get "frozen" like shishibukai.
-
I like to think that at a certain point, the yonkou's bounty get "frozen" like shishibukai.
That would be a bit boring. Oda reveals what their bounties were before they were frozen anyways for hype. And I would be VERY surprised if Oda isn't waiting to give a huge bounty for Kaido to make him seem as intimidating as possible in Wano Country (which is the reason why we probably won't see Big Mom's current bounty in this arc since there's no real reason to hold it back for this long).
-

The battle matchup will be "fucking run away as fast as you can"
Or Big Mom is throwing such a fit again that she can not distinguish friend from foes and starts attacking her own subordinates, which is not that unlikely at this point
-
I wish that this Big Castle is invincible like Doflamingo's bird cage

Pretty much. Placing emphasis on there being two witnesses indicates some sort of mystery and future big reveal in mind. If it was really as clear cut as just cannibalism (not that cannibalism can't be involved at all, I mean only that), I don't really see why Oda would go to such lengths to still hide it, continue the flashback like this, and have Big Mom so fixated on not knowing what really happened. Especially compared to the really dark things he's done like with Law's backstory, and acknowledging Zeff's autocannibalism (although Linlin is on a whole other level of morbid).
-
Hoo boooooy, if things are like this right now, imagine when the Tamatebako is finally opened.
-
I'm surprised about few things; first one, is that no one tanked the missiles so Reiju will not be saving anyone with her sucking-poison ability.
second thing, Mont'dor was shown collapsing earlier and now he's just chilling around, the species from the book are still in trapped then.seriously that castle does resembles the wedding cake, this is not gonna be good for the alliance.
and also, Streusen's facial expressions and caracteristics do resemble some of BM's sons, I'm guessing he's the father at least of Perospero, Katakuri and Compote.
-
Sooo… Anyone stlll gonna argue that Mama didn't eat Mother & the rest of the Lambs ? :ninja:
Awesome chapter from head to toe. Situation all fucked up on a whole new level, this might almost excuse the series of conveniences that plagued this arc so far. Capone's castle form is over-the-top in a good fashion - I'm getting shogun vibes here, if the situation were not so dire no doubt the boys would flash their starry eyes
Streusen seems to have played a key part in creating the food-themed archipel and WCI itself. His memories of the fateful day + Pudding's power could be the key to the guilt overload that eventually breaks Linlin. -
I kind of wanted their bounties to be "a wish" a coupon.
-
Sooo… Anyone stlll gonna argue that Mama didn't eat Mother & the rest of the Lambs ? :ninja:
I will, actually. :ninja:
-
Boy o boy I really liked this chapter. I especially love how confident and in control the BM pirates look at the end. I like how the guy who acted as BMs sensei after Caramel died was just killed off like he wasn't even important. Also the Big Bege castle looks amazing. Can't wait to see what he can do with it.

It's clearly cannibalism for me, Streusen wouldn't be so distant when he approached her. He even said "Don't get too close".

Streusen is alive. You can see him in this chapter.
-
So I stated a few months back when we got the alliance with Capone, that he was my least favorite Supernova before the timeskip and became my favorite this arc.
Yeah he's killed any doubt in my mind that he's not the greatest of them.
-

I know it's pointing towards that. But all we really know for sure if Big Mom acted violent enough to make him cautious. I don't see why Oda's tiptoeing so much around cannibalism when it's already so obvious.

I don't know about that, I think it's just a way to get message accross without having to show the horrible scene of mother with her children beign eaten alive. Also having two withnesses implies that there was nobody else on scene left alive to tell the tale. And then Big Mom used Caramel's DF.
-
Another thing: Everything in Bege's demeanour and appearance screams italian to me, so I was very surprised to learn that his, let's call it 'ultimate form', has a german name that just so happens to mirror the name 'Big Mom' exactly. That is just so random it's weird.
-

At the very least he has got to be Perospero's father. His DF is the Kuku Kuku no mi, which is also the minister of candy signature laugh.

Mussolini really really liked Hitler
btw, what happens if Pica gets into Bege's castle?, who actually controls it?:ninja:
-
Loved this chapter. A lot.
The facefaults are priceless in here, and the BM pirates regaining their attitude and looking menacing was something we absolutely needed.
-
@Count:
(although Linlin is on a whole other level of morbid).
Maybe that's the thing. The implications of it are so horrible, even compared to Law's past, that Oda won't explicitly acknowledge it, instead he'll stop at suggestions.
As for Big Mom not knowing what happened, I would say this is meant to create a guilt charge that will break her when everything else failed. Hence the relevance of her ignorance and the immediate availability of a surviving witness. On a side note, with what we've just learned about giants I'm amazed any of them ever even considered marrying one of Big Mom's daughter. This may shed a new light on Lola's story.
-

At the end of the day, this manga is for little Japanese kids so i'm sure he doesn't want it to be TOO graphic. ik theres been times this manga had been dark like Law's flashback but child cannibalism is just on another level. I mean it fits BMs witch theme anyways. witches eat kids.
-

Streusen being one of the witnesses and still being around implies that one way or another, he's going to tell Big Mom what really happened. Or Pudding steals the info from him, I guess. If it's really as simple as "You at the kids, Linlin", I don't really see how that brings about a resolution that doesn't make Big Mom angry. It would almost be a bit pointless to have this entire mystery instead of just having her get angry and rampage as soon as the cake got destroyed.
I'm not really doubting that Big Mom might have ate Carmel at this point as much as the kids. Especially with how much this dream keeps reinforcing how Linlin's dream is peaceful, but what's awful about it is her execution because of her childish mindset from not having a proper role model. It's like Oda's trying really hard to make Linlin seem sympathetic/misguided, which is why I still feel slightly skeptical that he would have her eat the kids if he's trying get that impression across.
I'm just keeping the possibilities open here. It's still a legitimate possibility that, hey, she ate everybody. But something… something just doesn't seem right about how all of this is being framed.
Maybe that's the thing. The implications of it are so horrible, even compared to Law's past, that Oda won't explicitly acknowledge it, instead he'll stop at suggestions.

But if she's going to have a guilt charge over it once she realizes the truth from the one witness, then why not just have Oda say she ate the kids by having the giant say it, Streusen say it, or a narration box? If the truth is going to be revealed to Linlin, there's no point in hiding it. And I doubt that Oda thinks we don't already know what seemingly happened.
-
I can't tell if Strousein is a greedy bastard or a psychopath.
-
Franky Shogun combining with Big Father for the ultimate unstoppable force second only to Pell
-
Mussolini really really liked Hitler
btw, what happens if Pica gets into Bege's castle?, who actually controls it?:ninja:
Probably Pica. But I'm guessing Bege can resist him and make his movements slower. Sort of like that Chimera who gets inside Al's armour in Full Metal Alchemist.
-
If Big Mom ends up dying at the end of the arc, the giants are gonna have a field day, and combined with the fact Hajrudin is one of the heads of the grand fleet, the Strawhats will be welcomed as heroes when they get to Elbaf.
-
At the very least he has got to be Perospero's father. His DF is the Kuku Kuku no mi, which is also the minister of candy signature laugh.
wow, well I guess now the question is; how drunk/high on drugs you gotta be that banging a cannibal is not a bad idea?
-

But then why introduce a key witness while Big Mom is distraught over what really happened if the truth about the child cannibalism isn't going to be revealed? I doubt Oda's going to keep it under the wraps to the point where he teases it by having Streusen whisper it into Big Mom's ears without any text being shown.
If the flashback ended at where it did last chapter, I wouldn't be making any fuss right now. But introducing a witness that is currently in the present time situation is a big thing to take into note. That's a dead ringer for a Chekov's gun.
-
Cavendish is awesome.
"Yonkou will be yonkou, I guess!" is my "better than the original" sentence of the week.
Dogtooth continue to be the competent member of that crew.
Al Capone can turn into Big Father? He should be banging Big Mom not his daughter.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
@Count:
I will, actually.
Between the total horror of the giants and Streussen's don't get to close, I have a hard time seeing something else at play. But then again I have a personal bias in it being true.

It's a children book. Saying a person ate a bunch of children is not really child-friendly except if you are doing a scary story.
-

It's moreso that if there's a witness present at the wedding, I expect that truth to come out. And if the truth's come out, I don't see why Oda would hide it unless he thinks we're dumb enough to not see the obvious signs of there being cannibalism. I like how dark it is too, but… I don't know. All I can really say for sure is that Big Mom was violent.
And what was the point of even having the Giant there? They already hate Linlin and want her dead, this isn't constructively adding anything new to how they already feel about her. I keep feeling like Oda's trying really hard to mislead us.

Possibly because he thinks it will have more impact if left unsaid and then explicitly confirmed only when the time for this final confrontation with Mama has come. It does create tension to leave this doubt for me as a reader, at the very least.
I do admit, though, that we still don't have any hard evidence on the matter at the end of the day. Also, I should have known you would be one to play the devil's advocate on this cannibalism matter
-
Hahaha owned. I laughed so hard at the mirror breaking.
Good job BM in the trolling department.
EDIT: But you definitely need to be destroyed for your horrendous actions throughout your life.
