Can we just take a moment and ask how can Farul hold a teacup? Like, is it designed specifically for horses, or did he have it glued onto his hoof?
One Piece 865: "Hey, Mother"

@Massimo:
Looks like Big Mom would be another one with rough past. And it would also mean that she'll be SH friend in the end.
That is not automatic. Doffy too had a "rough" past.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Smoothie's in two panels. Don't unnecessarily downplay her!
Yeah, and she's also sweating. Give her a break jeez :P
-

Good chapter. Perospero is a fool to not have listened to his brother. His vicious personality saved the Vinsmokes.
What intrigues me the most if the Ichiji panel. Is that thing he's been handled his raid suit ? Will we have a sentai transformation soon ? -
Honestly, Bege has access to EVERYTHING in the island? He had control over Caesar, the wedding, access enough to the cake to put a fucking mirror inside it without anyone noticing, access to the Germa suits (assuming since Nami has them in this chapter)… is BM in love with him or something or she just trusts everyone blindly? And I ask again: with access to everything, how he had to wait until the wedding (when BM's whole crew is present) so he could get Carmel's picture?
I actually kinda really liked this chapter. The flow, the panneling, the way Big Mom's scream was conveyed, the way it segued into the flashback, Katakuris bit of action, the art…
I thought all of it was on point.
With you here. For weeks I've been thinking the paneling has been off, but this time it was back on track.
Feels like the only person trying to save the family face was Katakuri, the rest seem overly relaxed.
Well, he is the one who can see the future, so he is probably the only one who realizes this attack must be taken seriously (the others are like "meh, a rookie attacking us, what a nuisance. Let's ignore it and maybe it will fly away")
Didn't even realize she was in this chapter til I saw your post. Went back and checked so she's on her knees begging someone to save her mother. How's hell has this pathetic bitch has a bounty that high?
Justl like everyone without earplugs, including Katakuri, she is unable to move because of BM's scream. That's the focus of the whole chapter.
-
-
Nice chapter, thanks for the link.
Like the panel with Sanji standing on top of the table -
Does anyone know how many breaks the manga has been on so far this year?
-
LMAO! who translates like that???
There are all sorts of translator Nakama who do stood like that.
-
Does anyone know how many breaks the manga has been on so far this year?
This will be the 4th one. Oda takes around 9-10 breaks a year
-
I already pointed this out in the spoiler thread but… isn't anyone else disappointed that we will see for the first time the mysterious Elbaf, mythical land we have been hearing about since the beginning of one piece, in a flashback?
I was hoping that Elbaf would have been the "Skypiea" arc of the new world  now if we ever go there (we kinda have to, Usopp) we will know quite a lot about the island from Mom's flashback. -
- big mom tanks it because she is just that good
also, why the hell would luffy stop the rocket launches when he has had an active part in the plan that brought that situation in the first place?
also, the rocket launchers being duds it's improbable because they are made by caesar, who should be able to build a simple rocket launcher, and the guy just arrived at the banquet so we know he is not trying anything funny (also capone has his heart and he reminded us that pretty much every time we saw it for some reason)
It's not Luffy's nature to watch an helpless person get killed. The crowd control part of the plan may be what he's interested in. Just because Luffy agrees with something doesn't mean he will go along with it. This is not the first time.
-
-
The scream was great. So Caramel's photo is to Big Mom what the Strawhat is to Luffy? I like it.
-
This will be the 4th one. Oda takes around 9-10 breaks a year
Yeah but i understood that Oda doesnt take a break when there is a break. He still works on OP every week. The magazine itself puts him on break to reduce some pressure on him. So that he can sleep a little bit longer and can do some stuff with his family. I dont think that Oda takes a week off lol…the guy worked in a hospital when he was in there...
-
These breaks are so annoying. Why doesn't Oda finally turn himself into a cyborg?
The whole reason that holds him back is that he cannot remodel his back. Really, he finally has to learn how to delegate.
-
For sure cc and brulee will stay together after this arc. Brulee has no place here anymore after she helped the enemy, the new bonnie and clyde.
-

I hope that Cesar will go along with Germa 66.
Emotionless them + Cesar could end up in some good comedy. That and potential of what Judge and Cesar could do working together makes it all quite interesting.
-

Now that you mention it. The strawhat hasn't been threatened in a long time. I'd like to see that happen in the NW.
-
Since we're gonna see Elbaf 63 yrs ago, I expect Oimo and Karsee to Show up somewhere. After all their timeframe allows it. It's right between the clash of their captains and their capture at EL 52 yrs ago.
-
For Big Mom's Conqueror's Haki screech, I'm just imagining microphone feedback only 100 times louder. When you think about it that way, no wonder some of the top guys like Montd'or fainted.
I don't know why I thought this, but I was thinking on page 7, "No Reiju, please don't die!". With this confrontation now (or probably later), I want Sanji to disown Judge as his father.
Woo! Big Mom flashback hype! I wonder if we'll see Dorry, Brogy, Oimo, Kashi or Hajrudin in the background?
Edit: Slightly ninja'd by Zacho

The flashback has barely started, we cannot possibly be certain what it'll contain, how long it'll go on etc. We can only guess.
-
This was a beautiful chapter - the scenes with Mom's outburst and Sanji standing over Judge were absolutely magnificent. I guess that's what happens when the cover features the Beautiful Pirates lol. Thanks to Jaimini's Box for their excellent scan cleaning.
In terms of content, it was pretty fun. Katakuri is a boss, and Smoothie has ears, lol.
I am a bit surprised to get a flashback from Big Mom - I thought it might have waited until the Elbaf arc. Interested to see where it leads.
-
Another great fun chapter to read. Love it. I before had fantasized about Sanji using DJ to melt candy off, then it actually happened. Not the way I imagined however, I thought he'd just heat up entire space and make Vismokes feel like thrown in furnace, but the actual process turned out to be pretty delicate in comparison.
-

Well yeah I guess Doffy exist. But people have been theorizing about BM-SH truce by the end of the arc. I could totally see Oda make us readers sympathize with BM through this flashback so that the truce would be easier to digest after all the horrible things she had done. But I've always been wrong before so.

Still didn't stop her begging someone to save her mother. Seriously Smoothie you can't move yet you expect someone else too?

We first saw Dressrosa about midway through Punk Hazard, without finding out too much about it. If my prediction about Big Mom getting focus in Elbaf is right, this flashback might be pretty short.
Still didn't stop her begging someone to save her mother. Seriously Smoothie you can't move yet you expect someone else too?
It's not really a matter of expectation but desperation.
-
So does Yonji's eyes being all white indicate that he too passed out?
-
This will be the 4th one. Oda takes around 9-10 breaks a year
That's not bad then.
Main reason I'm not looking forward to Wano or Elbaf is the length it may take to get through them. Like others said they will be relevant to the main plot, I just hope there isn't a family of enemies like Dressrosa, Fishman, etc. Taking into account all the breaks Oda takes and the estimated chapters left it's going to be 10 years or more before we reach the end so yeah I hope it's less formulaic and Oda changes it up more towards the climax.
-
I enjoy the chapter!
but, how come falling on her knees make her bleed but a rocket trowing at her doens't?
-
@O:

When she's doing that scream whatever inherent toughness she has seems to go away. Scraping her knees is the sign that's happened and that rockets CAN hurt her now.
-

He's up. It's Niji who seems to be hunched over in page where Sanji is on top of table, so I wonder if didn't he pass out.

They haven't shot her yet.
-
Going to Elbaf in a flashback does feel more unexpected and exciting than just knowing it's the next island on line. Hopefully it won't spoil too much but just gives the necessary information to anticipate it even more when we reach it
-
I don't know if someone has speculated about this before, but Big Moms weakness has a serious resemblance to the Achille's Heel tale with BM only bleeding from one knee and such without a particular reason.

Dorry and Brogy should already have their fight on Little garden by that time, but Oimo and Kashi are quite possible. Maybe even Roger, if the Location and the time jumps through BM's certain Points of her life (she got "tricked" by Roger so he was able to reach Raftel with her R-poneglyph).
IIRC Law's flashback also skipped through the years of his disease. -

There is a reason - her emotional despair during the portrait outburst causes her to become physically weak. If I went out onto the street wearing shorts and dropped to my knees without catching myself, they would probably get scraped.

Are we speaking about the same Lady/Monster who doesn't get harm even after fighting and sinking warships at sea? because I can hardly understand how falling to your knees could be more catastrophic than receiving a cannonball. More so when she is only bleeding from one of them. It's like the leaf that covered Achilles' heel when he bathed in Dragon Blood.
-
Review is out! Had a great time with this chapter. Pretty pumped for Elbaf!!!

You ignored the part about the portrait rendering Big Mom physically weak. She just took a little scrape just like a normal human since that's what she's essentially become. Being as fat and old as she is probably amplifies the force and damage. If she was hit by a cannonball right now there would be a lot more damage, hence why the Firetanks are going after her with rocket launchers.
-
Have to say Sanji did look like a boss standing on the table smoking.
-
Do people here not read the manga? The entire plan is to have the picture break, show it to Big Mom because that's the only situation where she is vulnerable to physical attacks. Bege explained this, it's why all this is going on.
-
holy shit and its mother's day this sunday. ODA YOU GENIUS SON OF A B…..
Nah mother's day was last Sunday.
-
I mentioned in the spoilers, but it's gratifying that BM screamed, less so that it's such an old woman they're up against.
Bege seemed a little more pathetic in the re-read, though. Why no haki bullets? What use is he, period in combat if he can't do that much?
Perhaps the question most worth repeating is, if (outside) Bege walked into a mirror that led inside himself, where would his body go :ninja: -

After reading your reply I noticed that we have different interpretations on the events.
-As far as I understand you're seeing BM as someone who has been weakened in its entirety meaning that any attack directed at her right now would be effective.
-From my point of view BM has entered a shock state where she displays her only weakness. Her right knee. For all I know I might be wrong but all we've got so far is that she has been weakened, we haven't been told in what way. That's why I think the missiles will be targeted at her injured knee
-

Against a guy like Katakuri, who not only has a Logia but advanced Haki to boot, there was pretty much zero chance of taking him out by force and the gunshots were likely meant as distractions.
Perhaps the question most worth repeating is, if (outside) Bege walked into a mirror that led inside himself, where would his body go :ninja:
Well he can enter himself (lewd)

Apparently people interpret it differently, but to me it's obvious that Big Mom's "iron balloonishness" stems from her haki and not some super thick skin. Her defense is simply strong and always active (similar to Whitebeard dodging stuff in his sleep). People calling her an untouchable iron balloon is a metaphor, just like Sanji calling Vergo "basically a mass of iron".
The mental breakdown gets rid of her haki defense, which makes sense since Haki is considered manifested willpower.
-
I enjoyed the chapter and the moment when people start collapsing was awesome. It's funny. At the same time I both like and dislike how Oda portrayed what followed.
As expected, BM has a "history" with Elbaf. With this arc's pacing, the flashback could be done in one chapter.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Yeah, no words for BM pirates competence.
Exactly my thoughts, aside perhaps the Puff Puff (Genie son)
He even explicitly tells Perospero to shoot them all and yet all we see is another dialogue…
Wont even go into Smothie etc. Although I kind of have a feeling she will do something now to prevent Bege's assassination

I could get behind this.

There wasn't a reason for the Big Mom Pirates to step into Katakuri's fight - he was handling all of the alliance members perfectly fine and they only succeeded in getting Big Mom to freak out thanks to Luffy using his DF powers at the last second.
