@Kaiolino Honestly, from this angle the Merry looks even better. I get that the key visual shot looks a bit off at first, but the more I look at it, the more I'm sold on this Merry. I'm looking forward to this show, who knows if it'll be good but I like what I see.
One Piece Live-Adaptation Drama Announced

One Piece is featuring at Netflix Tudum this weekend. Whispers around the web either say (Twitter's MyTimeToShineH) or imply (Greg) that a teaser, trailer, or something substantive will be released.
-
That other guy is a decent source, but MTTSH is creditless.
-
is there like, a word for when people create something, and prior to revealing it, you feel preemptively sorry for them?
-
Was 2018 really so long ago that people still thought all anime characters were supposed to be white and every non-"white" race was "ethnic"?
-
No traditional Luffy sandals. Interesting~
-
They mentioned something about the lack of sandals being due to filming at one point. It would cost too much to cgi them in and they were impractical for filming and stunts. Not sure who said it, bu
-
This twitter account has a bunch of images and videos of official props and costumes. https://twitter.com/OnePieceNxBr
-
@andre Yeah I can attest to that , broke two of them back in the day just from running too hard and not much cushioning either. It's a compromise but nothing that should be noticeable
-
Is Tudum also gonna be livestreamed at Twitch?
-
@All-Fiction Only on YouTube as far as I know:
-
30 minutes till Tudum starts, people!
-
Greg said the Op part isn't till the second half so don't expect anything in the first hour
-
This post is deleted!
-
They are spamming OP in the Tudum chat as if that will speed things up lol
-
This is the order of presentations. One Piece near the end as was leaked previously.
-
I hate netflix but the one piece community is giving me second hand embarrassment what the actual hell
-
Logue Town?????????
-
Wow I'm impressed
-
-
I'm so torn on this. I did not expect that. I thought it would be easier to like or dislike it.
-
I'll actually be really depressed now if this doesn't work out that's actually really good
-
I actually like the trailer. The Straw Hats all looked great and Buggy looks great in my opinion.
-
Feels really faithful. Only thing missing is Usopp's long nose. Just caught Coby in the rewatch.
-
hahahaha mackenryu looks like he either can't keep up with the energy or his too japanese to keep this up
-
I already adore the Straw Hats cast for the live action series.
-
luffy would never quip, what are they doing
-
Twitter is already using this as a meme.
Most of the comments are non OP fans that don't know the designs are silly on purpose. It's everything I expected and why they never connected to the anime during the 06 Toonami days.
I even seen a comment comparing it to DB Evolution which shows they have no clue. That film made Goku an HS kid.
Nothing in that teaser shows that they changed that much.
-
this luffy might.. actually work. the scene that caught me off guard was the one interaction the three had "I might be sensing some tension in the crew", portraying him as an awkward but funny character who's trying to get a sense of leadership might be the right choice. Manga luffy is so japanese that it will not translate well to the American audience. But he 100% should not overplay the goofiness and try to try not too hard. Just my two cents.
-
Alright, that's looking promising so far. Seems like it has fun and takes itself seriously when it needs to be.
-
Usopp was never going to have the long nose, that's something that was clearly going to be lost in adaptation.
Looks at least semi faithful. And colorful! Here's hoping!
-
I'm looking forward to it. They've made some interesting changes to the story it seems, which I wanted to see. I hope it pans out well.

Yeah, I don't expect them to be 1:1 exact to stay true to the manga. That said, it makes me wonder how the fish-men will turn out.
-
Watched the trailer again. I think Nami is fighting with Zoro and Luffy at Shell Town.
-
someone pointed out the guy zoro fighting might be the previous Mr 7 from baroque works and that design made so much more sense
-
Gave it a few watches and....it's growing on me. It does feel like the series, looks are down pat for good and ill (lets face it Buggy was gonna look odd in live action), some of the set could look more lived in, looks a bit barren for my liking. CGI is about what I expected: cheap but at least detailed to fit in with the setting. Dude who plays Luffy actually seems cool, I actually laughed at the "finishing move" bit, that sounds like something Luffy would say. I'm still a bit split on Zoro and Nami though, the clips make their acting come off as wooden, need some more emotion in their tones. I know Zoro is stoic but don't sound like a robot, my guy. I also really wish they wouldn't do those fisheye close up again. I didn't mind Cowboy Bebop, but that was one aspect I did hate from it (especially with Ed's reveal). Otherwise though, I'm interested, definitely not going one for one of the manga here and that's okay, I'm all for different interpretations, keeps it interesting (again this will be a very limited episode number too so they'll likely combine and cram in arcs together. Fair warning people.)
As usual, most of Twitter is dismissing it based on looks alone which I am worried about. I really do not want another Cowboy Bebop situation where they cancel it because of that. This could be a good story that needs some time to breathe, so it getting canned because "Oh it didn't look right, anime isn't for live action" etc without giving it a proper look would just really suck. I have faith though. I want to see it, the cast seems excited for it, so I'm rooting for it to succeed. Here's hoping.
-
I'm conflicted, and frankly I only feel that you can't prove this sucks yet. The quips are cringe, some of the designs are weird, and it reminds me of Cowboy Bebop before the trailers--but I might be a bit biased on that.
Now the good. I like the weird Buggy design. He looks a bit horrifying, but why not do that for the trailer? You can easily turn him good later. The action scenes look pretty good too.
Randomly, from the looks of things Luffy's one Gomu punch is against Alvida, who looks like a slightly stocky lady instead of a 7 foot giant-ish woman. That's a bit awkward.
-
This teaser reminded me that most, if not all, of the antagonist are these outrageous and ridiculous characters who are on a journey to find out that Luffy is more insane than them.
So, the decision to make Buggy look like that really sets things up well.
I'm just glad Luffy isn't the typical moody HS kid.
-
Giant people is another thing that clearly wasn't going to make the transition, not on the regular at least. LotR made it look easy, but that's a very expensive time consuming effect to do long term if your entire franchise isn't built around it
Wheel of Time had to cut our it's 8 foot tall people because doing that with every shot a main character was in would mean he'd get written out a lot of times
-
I'm thinking about major story detail possibilities, then watching Twitter argue about Nami's hair color and Sanji's eyebrows. This is entertaining.
-
with how alvida is portrayed and how we get bits of the sea king and shanks, I'm betting the first episode is going to be the whole Luffy Shanks flashback and Coby and Alvida's entire arc will be just a segment for early episode 2 and then they'll introduce zoro almost immediately. It makes no sense for the first villain to look like an Npc and honestly I thought luffy was punching an auntie/old lady there which uh, not a good first look. I honestly thought he was punching fake luffy, they could at least try. I know it's Alvida and she's mostly an after-thought but Luffy and Coby's whole interaction kickstarted the series and contain a lot of the series core themes. I hope it's not just a touch and go but it likely will be
-
Alvida was a one chapter villain, the fact she got a whole ass ship built for this show is already suggesting she’s getting as much screentime as her character deserves.
-
I am legitimately shocked of all the goofy things in OP (Usopp's nose, Sanji's brows) the one thing that made it through was Santoryu. I was conviced that was too visually jarring for them to even attempt.
Only other thing that caught me off guard was how...sandy the land scenes looked. I guess I expected to see a bit more green?
-
@Kaiolino oh I forgot about the whole ship, my bad. I couldn't identify her, at all from like three viewing until I saw Robby's post but it could be a me thing. I do still think she and Coby's little arc will not have an episode to them and most likely take up 25-50% before we head straight to Shells Town to keep the momentum.
-
@Cockycent "I'm sensing some tension among the crew" - "Not a crew" is certainly an interesting thing for Zoro to say, he was committed to Luffy after Shells Town in the manga. Might suggest they changed the dynamic here.
-
@zeltrax225 I mean, they have 8 episodes to get through 100 chapters. Pretty safe bet that 1 chapter was not gonna be an entire episode.
-
@cavendishsama yeah for sure, I'll have to keep that in mind when approaching this. Gaimon will most certainly be cut and so will a lot of other panels/little moments.
-
@cavendishsama I took that as Zoro being against Nami which I remember he didn't trust her in the manga and she didn't really commit on the surface. Just using them to get what she wanted.
If they did go that route, I will have to wait and see. I remember Zoro being down for Luffy was the hook for me with this story, so that possible change could be tricky for me.
