! > Mafia games (sometimes known as Werewolf) are played over the course of several days. Before the game starts, players are generally PMed by the Game Host with information about the game and a **designated role. Usually, this boils down to Town or Mafia. Each Night, the Mafia Night Kills a player, eliminating them from the game. Then the following Day, players will deliberate publicly in an attempt to find the culprits. If you are aligned with the Town, your goal is to track down the Mafia and eliminate them from the game, usually through a community Lynch during the Day, until all Mafia members are removed from the game. If you are aligned with the Mafia, your goal is to eliminate as many players from the game, using any means necessary, (removing players with a Night Kill, manipulating the community into Lynching a member of the Town, etc.), in order to reach a functional majority. Pretty simple, right?

Well, half the fun comes from the various ways the basic format can be twisted. Sometimes, players will be assigned **Night Actions, which can let them investigate the alignment of another player or allow them to protect a player from Night Kills. Some Night Actions can even be Night Kills themselves! Also, sometimes there are **multiple Mafias, or **Third-Parties with their own agendas. Or sometimes the Town is a Spaceship and the Mafia are Aliens. There are myriad ways the game can be played, and it's all the Game Host's job to design the game and present it to the players interested. Sometimes, it's really fun, and sometimes, the Game Host accidentally gives the Mafia unlimited power and breaks the game. But, you never know what will happen! And half the fun is having fun.

I can accommodate up to 9 players. If we get less than that, I can also accommodate that number.

The game will be played in this thread. I'm willing to start as soon as we get the full 9, but I'll start it with less if we are unable to reach that number in one week.

General Rules (credits to Foolio for the format.)

! 1. The object of the game is to achieve your win condition using your abilities, working together with allies and lynching your suspects. For the enjoyment of all, always play towards your win condition.
! 2. In order for a participant to be lynched, a player must type "Vote: PlayerName" or "Vote Lynch: PlayerName".
! 3. Players may solicit a No Lynch by writing "Vote: No Lynch". If the majority votes "No Lynch", the day ends without a lynch.
! 4. Contestants may rescind or adjust their vote, but may only do so by first entering "Unvote" followed by any further modifications. All voting and/or unvoting must be done in BOLD or it will not be counted.
! 5. Once a majority has been reached, the current count immediately validates a lynch and ends the Day Phase, whether or not the moderator is present. Un-voting or changing of votes after the fact will not alter the outcome. Talking in the thread may continue until a mod ends the day officially.
! 6. Personal Messaging, E-mail and any other means of communication outside of the game thread are prohibited. Discussion about the game (between active players) is restricted to the main thread. There may be exceptions depending on Roles given by the moderator.

Truthfully, Mafia requires a level of secrecy that can only be managed with full cooperation from all players. Everyone must maintain the integrity of the game to the best of their ability in order for the game to be enjoyable. People who break these rules will be punished.
! Day and Night is usually just short for the more specific "Day Phase" and "Night Phase". You are always told exactly how long these phases are, and can freely ask the moderator for an update on either vote count or time remaining in a Day Phase. For this game, day phases will last 48 hours, and night phases will last 24 hours. That time may be extended due to certain circumstances, or the players may opt to Vote: Day Extend a total of 3 times throughout the game. If a day extension reaches the majority of the vote, the day will be extended 24 hours.

But, two of you are only dressed as trees... You must be here to destroy the forest... How dastardly.

But one of you in disguise is apparently a kind-hearted individual. You're a local firefighter who is keeping an eye out for all fires in this forest. How nice of you.

Me? I'm a local developer. If this forest burns down, I can build a shopping mall here. If it doesn't, I can build a park. Therefore, the result doesn't matter to me.

As much as lynching would be useful, it lowers the forest vote count and honestly weakens our power. Since no one will be killed tonight as laid out by the set-up, today a no lynch probably would be for the best.

Jabs, how does the fact that lynched trees can still talk post-death factor into your decision to lynch today?

I think it softens the consequences of a mislynch some. For instance, lynching less active players is less of a priority because conversation and lines of inquiry will rarely be fully stifled. Obviously it's still important in achieving a majority for any vote, but we've got a bit of a buffer in terms of maintaining active discussion.

I'd hope that any Stumps that happen will be able to view things with a somewhat clearer perspective since they'll have no need to worry about looking scummy.

When do you think the appropriate time to start lynching would be then? The odds of us lynching someone they've already primed are pretty low.

I'd have to think about if a no lynch might be beneficial later on considering the voting power that you mention. But right now I don't see a reason to no lynch.

Firefighter, Trees, Tree-stumps, and Arsonists are all vulnerable to being primed and ignited.

I'd say yes. I don't see why a doused tree would no longer be doused after having been lynched.

Since there is no investigation and only a firefighter, the vote is our only real weapon against those dastards. I understand your skepticism, but we need to keep our numbers high. At this point so early in the game, it's hard to tell what to do. We need more people to post.

Stumps can be both primed and ignited. The only thing different from trees and stumps is in voting.

I'm in agreement with beginning the lynching right away. Arsonists can't kill anyone tonight and probably won't kill anyone until they have at least 2 or 3 primed. The longer we wait to start lynching the more opportunities the arsonists get to prime trees. The 7-2 ratio appears designed to give us enough room for error for this exact purpose.

True, it's not that straight-forward. Let's say you were an arsonist and we'd be at the point where you could decide to kill two doused players with three Forest players having been lynched already. Would you go for the win or would you wait?

Gut feelings, I guess. Same as with any game of mafia where one shouldn't have to depend on investigative roles. Of course, we need everybody to give some input before I can even gauge that.

Right, that's why I don't think there's much point in not lynching either way. My point is that we don't lose a lynch if we don't do one today (or some other day). I'm not interested in waiting though since there's not much to gain.

I'm not being casual, we should Lynch today. I'm just saying that a no lynch isn't as awful a result as it might be in other games.

Dead trees are a fire hazard and should be cut down.

I don’t quite understand the purpose of the question. Obviously they go for the win, the firefighter succeeding just means they won’t be able to ignite as many as they think.

I’d be okay with it, day one doesn’t give us as much to go on so it’s a reasonable fallback option. We’re a long ways from anyone being inactive, only about 3 hours into the day.
