Dragonball Discussion Kai: Broly but this time it's not Broly

The most interesting part of this is that Goku is actually a "good guy". He's just overdoing it with the fighting. I've seen people say he "deliberately" wanted to destroy the universes, but that's never the case.

So, I'm thinking what a DB-like character arc for him would be like. Keep it simple, but do something.

A) Vegeta/Piccolo gives him a tongue lashing to make him understand the severity of the situation. Vegeta in particular would really be effective because he's expecting a new child! "What if YOU were having one, Kakarot?!"
B) a universe loses and gets destroyed, just when Goku has come to enjoy fighting someone from there….hits home? Slowly but surely the consequences become more of a concern. "Wait, OUR universe could go next?!" probably when half the team has been knocked out or something.
C) Toei: "lol develop Goku? nice one"
And this is more of a tinfoil theory, but I do not trust the Grand Priest at all. Sure Zeno is child-like and doesn't articulate things well, but his mouthpiece is coming in with all of the spoons to stir the pot -> "oh Goku-san brought this tournament up" "btw Zeno-sama was going to destroy anyways" "U7 and U9 are ranked the lowest, tee hee!" "the tournament has rules unlike this exhibition match"

Yeah, I'm really not a fan of this tournament format at all. It pretty much guarantees that we won't really see much out of the rest of the U7 team and I'm really getting the feeling that the whole thing is going to be interrupted anyway.

Same here; this last episode seemed to go out of its way to make him come across as creepy with the shots we got of his face. I expect him to try and make some sort of move against Zeno during the Tournament. Possibly with the help of the "safe" universes at the very least and maybe some of the others as well.

I would nearly be convinced the Grand Priest is scheming but he's also saying this stuff directly in front of the Zeno's and they aren't correcting him. That's really the only thing stopping me from being on that train.

I think the battle royal will end in a draw, I expect U6 and U7 to team up because besides Goku the other Universes fighters might probably also go for Hit because they should know he is also one of the strongest.

While the location might render tokitobashi useless, if he evolves his dimension portals technique into something like D4C, he could solo the tournament..

I would also think it wouldn't matter much to him. He still gets a fight. Has to fight either way. He's shown zero doubt that he or Gohan could lose.

Something tells me there's going to be more than that to this tournament/arc because a battle royale sounds more like a preliminary type of event, whether it's more tournament or something else - who knows, maybe it really would very short, maybe not, maybe there is some other variables here; a lot here depends also on execution. I'm honestly drawing a blank on upcoming arcs outside of the universes not included in the tournament or stuff like planet Sadla.

I dunno about the High Priest yet because anything "off" hasn't really been pointed out about him "directly".

A few universes will probably end up with the same number off combatants left (i guess 3), so they still need to do a classic bracket based tournament.

I just noticed Toei spoiled it in the last episode, the scene where Shin mentions it will be a 80 men battle royal, the silhouettes behind U6 and U7 are U11 and the fox team(the fox that appears in the OP), should mean the battle royal will end in a draw, setting up the semifinals.

Gohan being so meek and a family man with a job that hangs out with his alien father is much more interesting than Goku overall. He's never really changed other than getting stupidly strong. At least Gohan has other stuff going on. I actually enjoy the sudo slice of life stuff. Since the Z fighters are usually trying not to die it's a nice break.

Personally I'm super over the Saiyans in general. But then again I mostly always haven't cared to much. Piccolo pretty much was the only thing keeping me interested. If they used even the humans more it'd be great. But watching Abridged makes me want to watch Super more. Hopefully they do go that far lol.

Goku is boring and it's kinda hilarious to watch Vegeta fail. But I think I enjoy him more than Goku lately. But msybe it's just because Vegeta is somewhat different than how he used to be.

Not really sure what to think - seems everything will happen at the tournament. They're setting so much on it.
It's been set up since episode 40-41, constantly teased, now gets extra set-up. I really really feel like there will be more to it now. Will they be able to keep it interesting? It's done a great job in wanting me to find out how it's gonna go. It could be the most standard, draggy thing or actually something very fun. I'm glad it's not being rushed to, at least.

caught a stream of episode 82, so here's my quick thoughts:

! I liked Toppo's fighting style! It's ripped straight from the flashy poses from the days of the Ginyu Force, and that makes me smile. I still think it was a mistake to have Goku show off SSB (again) before the tournament, more because it's such a significant boost. When not handled properly for this kind of event, you risk making the opponent look…well, like a joke because they're not god level. That being said Toppo wasn't steamrolled, either.
! He's right to keep Goku as an enemy, because even if some of the blame has been lifted, Goku is still WAY too carefree about this. Beerus has been drilling it into his head for the past five? episodes that he has to take this universe destruction more seriously, not just "lol we'll just win!"
! I am more convinced the Grand Priest is up to something than ever. See the shot where he looks back at the Zenos when they're getting all excited about Goku going all-out? How he sets this arbitrary 40 hour time zone? Hmm..
! +1 for Whis addressing pigtailed angel (i assume they're all siblings) by name.

Good episode! Toppo definitely wasn't made the villain here, which is one fear lifted here, but it didn't quite go into the meat of things with Goku's carelessness, either, kind of skirting around it, which is fine, it's the prelims. Maybe it'll never lead to something more, but it's definitely addressed now.

There are some lines that stood out and made me happy:

Gohan bringing up Saiyan blood shows that they are going with the "blood" reasoning. Goku's big problem being his easy-going nature - no, he's not turning evil, and all of the blame isn't his, either, but his casuality about the whole thing is a problem and he is partially to blame. Goku's comment about it being Zeno's request - so, he's just following what he says and in the end he's just going with the hand they ended up with. It's all instinctual and very like Goku.

The animation took a hit, but there were a couple of highlight moments, like the Super Saiyan Blue stuff.

It's all good character writing. I'm excited to see what they'll do.

Edit: I've found out. Roshi? Really? Wow. I wish they'd resurrect Cell instead. I'd love to see him having to work with the team especially considering how many of their techniques and styles he shares

The fight against Toppo was just to make us all feel more thrilled, now that we know an even stronger guy will appear soon.
I wonder how Hit will end up in this whole scenario, with him being no longer the biggest threat.
Also i hope we get to see another universe to be the main threat in the end, even when universe 11 is being pushed as the one with the most capable guys.

If it was the bunch of 1v1 that we expected they might try control him, but in the middle of the free for all? He starts drinking people or eating the androids? That's inviting disaster more than bringing master Roshi.
